Welcome to the second testing of the Closed World Experiment 2. You may find the original thread located here. During this experiment thirty people will be set in a closed arena, with limited resources and space to construct their bases. Each of them will be playing for a total of eighty hours over the course of two to three months on Saturday and Sunday. Footage and logs will be posted here in the future for the viewers.
You may not upload videos until the experiment is half way done. At that point, each person to upload one day's worth of content once or twice a week, or something similar. This would mean that you have a significant trail time from the start, and everyone who wants to can process and ready their videos well in advance. This also means that because some people are slower/faster, some people's LPs may trail by 30-90 minutes, but no one should ever go past a session boundary. That way there's not too much of a spoiler, even if people aren't able to post at the same time. If any of the above is broken you will be ejected from the current group of thirty participants.
Welcome to the Dark Millennium. This is time in which thirty contestants compete or form coalitions together in an enclosed space. The 300x300 cube will have all the neccasary resources for survival, but will they be able to work together and ration it out? This thread will be kept up to date with stories and statistics as the game progresses, videos will be unavailable until a month from now, at the half way point in the games. If you would like to have more information on this, feel free to contact me.
The game will take place in a randomly generated world enclosed in a 300x300 bedrock wall with only one rule, "You may not leave the bedrock wall." Players will be given a random spawn with no additional support from there on out. They may form teams and work together to survive, or go out individually and hunt alone.
Schedule All Sundays are days when if the group is available, we will be able to play. 8/25/2012

Are you able to dedicate ample time to the project when required?:
I will very likely be able to dedicate the required time to this experiment.
Are you able to work with well with the others on the project?
I should have no issues working with anyone.
Reason for Applying?:
Scientific curiosity, and a desire to have fun.

I would like to inquire as to the reasons you are artificially altering the conditions of the test so much though. I think it would be a more interesting test if you allow the behaviors that will emerge to do so with as little interference as possible, which would mean leaving the world perimeters natural and not dictating goals to the players, etc. More like the original test.

That seems reasonable enough. The original reason was, to add more of a penalty for just running out and attacking people, because what really happens, say if a bunch of people get killed? They lose a spade, a sword, or a piece of armor. It really isn't much punishing to them and has no real after effect. I was going to attempt to make it more competitive, but I think I will change it back to the original parameters.
EDIT: At the very least, I think I'll implement deathban.
The 2-minute ban after death is most likely irrelevant as players will in most cases not respawn near where they died, and if they do, it's likely at a base with allies nearby who would attempt to regain a fallen comrade's equipment anyway. Death carries the penalty of potentially losing equipment, with the additional penalty of failing to defend whatever objective is currently being fought for at the time. It is sufficient without any artificial tinkering.

You bring up a valid point contrary to my original thinking, and I agree with you completely. Infact, to keep the experiment truly identical to the last one, I'll try to contact the original holder of the experiment for additional details on how he did it. The most part for why I am doing this, is to have fun and find out if that experiment really did happen. It seems fake to me, and my conscious cannot let that go untested.
I support you on this. My attempt at hosting this didn't go too well for a few reasons, most of which can be attributed to the map being too large and not being able to get the plugins for buffing mobs working properly.

I hope it goes better for you
Thanks for the support, I'm currently reworking the setup to be honest.
I want to do this experiment as much as the next guy, but guys this isn't going to work if we read all this already.
We'd know they we have to save on resources and we know that grass will become important in the end. It won't work if we already know all these things.

That's the problem. You cannot replicate this experiment with any of the userbase on this forum without them finding out about the original experiment or having prior knowledge to the experiment. That's why I'm attempting to see if this could actually have happened, if thirty people in two months could truly have caused this much destruction. It will still be fun anyway aswell.

THIS WILL NOT WORK, IF THE PEOPLE YOU HAVE APPLYING FOR IT KNOW ABOUT THE EXPERIMENT IT RUINS IT. You cant run a social experiment when the test subjects know of the experiment

You're logic is flawed, and no needs for caps lock. You must be referring to the original way that this experiment was held, and clearly did not read the entire post, which I advise you to do. This is a social experiment, just different from most. There is no possible way to collect thirty people without any prior knowledge of this experiment willing to dedicate this much time to it. In other words, we're on the internet, not in a lab.

My Fridays and Saturdays are relatively free compared with other days, so yes, I can dedicate at least 5 hours for those days.

I certainly get along with most people. A lot of people seem to want to team up with me just by the way I talk, so yes.
Reason for Applying?:
I've read the entirety of the original post, and I really want to help create civilization from scratch. I also came from the Aquor servers, and it was rather...boring.
