Welp, 1.8 is out. This will give us time to completely finalize the arena, (even though I'm pretty sure it's all done and armed.) while we wait for the Bukkit plugins to be updated. We'll be ready to launch as soon as we get the 1.8 plug ins up. All staff are reminded not to update to 1.8 without a backup of the 1.7, as the server will be on 1.7 until the critical plugins are updated.
Why don't you use Creative Mode on your server then change it to survival when it's ready? It would be easy to build everything because you can fly and have unlimited stuff!

This sounds AMAZING. Not too mention with 1.8 you can actually center it around hunger. I f you chose to add more helpers my ign is bellebulldog. I am willing to help with anything.

Because we need to update our server plugins. It's a good idea, but yeah.
Quick question; You guys mention jumping courses and parkour several times in this thread (and complained about sprinting ruining them), but I don't see how you could fit it into the arena seamlessly. What are they for?
Handy for watching for griefers and the like, but I prefer the tracking aspect of it. If someone is clumsy (breaks blocks/places blocks), then they can be tracked. It's a passive plugin, and not many will find a use for it, but it will help eliminate "weak" tributes early on.
It might take a bit more work, but I think if you allow access to back-packs to people who have certain items (something rare/unique like sponges?), then you've got a decent system. However, making sure player back-pack/work-bench status remains up-to-date may require a custom modification of the mod.
I'm not sure if you've already noticed them (or if they were already suggested), but I haven't seen mention of them anywhere in this thread. Also, it sounds like you're nearing completion! I've done some searching and, while this idea isn't unique (meaning others have the same general idea), this is definitely the first real attempt I've seen. "May the odds be ever in your favor!"
Basically tributes will spawn in and put in the loading bay, then they'll be put onto the spawn plates which will blow up if you step off. Then when we say go, they'll be able to step off and make a run for the cornucopia or whatever their strategy is. We'll have plugins that announce deaths and stuff like that. And we'll have gamemakers who will make things unboring if it gets too boring. So its pretty much like the hunger games except with vanilla minecraft and whatever bukkit pkugins we can cram into the server. And the OP is yhe original post. The first one. Right on the front page. Does that answer you're questions?
Um...Ok. Let's start with this: We are not making any client - side mods. It would make everything 100 times better and make it all cooler and more interesting but unfortunately, all the stuff we would want in it would take a long time to put together (as proved by your very long post containing only 24 ideas. We've come up with ALOT more as well while this thread has been up.) and also some people can't get mods on their computer or they can't get them to work. This isn't always user error. Sometimes it's just the way their Minecraft or computer is. So we won't be doing any mods though if someone would like to make one for the heck of it, I would totally support and try it out :biggrin.gif:. It just won't be used in the games. As said in a recent post, stats might give an unfair advantage no matter how we tweak them. And we can't do 24 because (as MC Rocks said) more slots = more $$$ The anthem is a cool idea, but not everyone would hear it unless we built it below the spawn plates and even then. So i like it, but probably won't happen. :wink.gif: And you can't apply to be a tribute yet. Go read the OP again.
I have an idea though. We agreed that we wouldn't release the names of the tributes before the day of the games, but I had an idea. I reread the series again, and one part in particular caught my eye again. We scrapped this idea a long time ago, but I'd like to revive it with more detail this time. We could build a training arena like the one in the books, with various stations. The day before the games, the tributes could come on (with PvP disabled) and just sort of show off for us. Private sessions seem a bit much, but we could have them come in and show off for like, half an hour? An hour? And then give them a score that we would post on here. Now normally, that score goes towards influencing sponsors (I've got the beginnings of a sponsor idea in my head...) but there was another point to the training arena: truces. Now already some of you are saying, "this idea sucks" or "we already agreed not to have any truces prior to the games" or something along those lines, but don't forget, that's what happened in the books. And not everybody is going to truce. Just a few here and there probably. We could also add a question to the app, "Are you more likely to form truces during the games or do them alone?" Think it over. (another extremely long post...)
Fine idea and I can't start work on an arena easy I got some real nice ideas

Not sure if we need anti - griefing measures but thx for the suggestion! And I think backpacks are out. If they could be picked up or something then they could work but just having a backpack seems pointless when tributes already have more slots than we actually want them to have! :smile.gif: The one thing I am VERY interested in is that music plugin. If somebody could make an anthem or some victory music or just some background music to play during the games, it would be awesome! Thoughts?

I meant it's normal use would be anti-griefing, but in the arena, it could be used by tributes to track down careless tributes. Also, if a tribute found a shelter in the wilderness, they could know if it was tribute made or if it was made by a map designer (they'd worry about traps). Of course, you need to use a specific item (configurable) to use the plugin, so it wouldn't break the game so much as give a player or two a slight advantage over the others, and even then it's uses would be quite situational.
Bottom line; I meant it's for tracking tributes, not griefers.

Interesting idea...Only problem would be that then they would KNOW which houses we built and be on the lookout for traps in them (or not even venture inside the house) or does anyone think that that doesn't matter? It's a great suggestion though! Good for tracking!
Okay just came up with a great idea THAT DOSENT NEED ANY MODS!!!! (cheers)
goes along with eariler post i saw from one of the "gamemakers" talking about training center time
while the tributes are training you can get some to "get their picture taken?" (figure out what their face looks like)
and build all the faces up in the sky BUT cover them up with something (it ties in with training center cause you do this all while they are "training") on the nigth of the persons death you remove the cover on the face and later destroy the face if you want
cause really if you fly the person in the sky at night whos going to ever see what they look like or their nametag
sure you can use chat but this makes it feel closer to the books right???
thoughts???

We would need a picture plugin and there's a lot of forest so it might be hard for some tributes to see them, but it's an interesting idea.

Because we can't.
Thinking about coming a mod to simply not moderate.
We build a new one. We learned a lot in building this one, and we could probably cut down the construction time by half, maybe even 3 quarters.
