Personally? I think we should wait until 1.7:
- Much smaller oceans
- Fishing overhaul (could be biome specific)
- An actual change to how biomes spawn in relation to what biome a biome is next to
- At least 9 new biomes
- Snow generation change
- Several new flowers, and supposedly a new plant
There's just too much in the next update terrain-wise to wait, IMHO.

I do see part of your point though, Red. But I think it would be bad simply to wait until 1.7. Why not just do what Mindcrack is/was doing, and have an outer boundary that cannot be crossed until 1.7? That allows us to have the best of both worlds. If we all stay within a 1000-2000 block radius of spawn, we'll have plenty of room for 30 people, and we'll be able to easily get to new terrain after 1.7 comes out. Cameron could even erect a bedrock barrier at the end of the world, so that no one accidentally loads chunks beyond the selected "1.6" area.
So, even though I know I won't get in, I'm anxiously awaiting the list on September 1st so I can get on with my life rather than fret over whether I'm getting into this. xD
I don't know who came out with the idea of waiting for 1.7 to come out before starting the server, but personally, I don't want to wait forever if I somehow do get in.
Questions (again, if I somehow do get in):
1) Will there be a "plot" system where people claim parts of land and you can't build anything in those specific areas?
2) Will we be using the newest snapshots, or just the latest release?

Have hope my friend! Without hope there is only despair!

Although that's up to Cameron to decide (obviously), a lot of us use craptops or otherwise need Optifine in order to run MC smoothly. Plus, updating the server is a hassle. I would hope that we would avoid snapshots and only use the latest release.
I think there should be a bedrock border, just to we don't accidentally cave past the line or something without realising. Also, isn't just 1000 blocks a bit small for 30 people? Although, I'd probably stay around spawn until 1.7 if we were gonna restrict things :3
(Talking in hope. So much hope. sajhfgigfasdfjagf cry)
I second the motion for a border. We're not mindcrack, and we're forgetful, and we all love exploration. A border is a nice easy way to ensure no one leaves the spawn district. I think a 2000 block diameter is good though. If I get let on (really, really hoping I do. All the anticipation feels are killing me)I intend to stay near spawn for a while to get settled, build some community structures and make use of community/other people's stuff. (i.e, lvl 30 enchanting tables, mob grinders, etc.)

Yea,if I get on I'd be happy to sick around and build community grinders and such.
If we're going with a border, then just for logistics' sake, I'd recommend using a plugin such as WorldBorder (I think that's what it's called?) or making a backup of the world before we make a border. Imagine this, for a moment. We build a bedrock border around the map. 1.7 comes, and we decide to remove the bedrock border. What terrain do we use to replace the blocks where the border was?
And yes, I do think we should have a border. 2 to 3 thousand blocks sounds good.

Just delete the chunks and let them regenerate? That is of course if we are not going to have someone try to edit it to make the chunk transitions smooth.

I suggest a 2,000 x 2,000 square centered around the spawn. Delete chunks, regenerate them, and voxelsnipe the transition smooth.
A temporary border sounds like a good idea to me, maybe I can spend the months until 1.7 just gathering resources and hanging out at spawn before venturing out to the new biomes.

There ain't much left of the world these days. The gods have forsaken us, there's no denying that. But still you press on. For what? A chance to sift through the ashes one last time? The hope to one day be called a hero? Whatever your reason, you've got a lot of work to do. The corruption won't leave without a fight, so you better get started.
I suppose a border sounds okay. I mean, even a large one could get a little cramped, no? Anyways, when are applications actually being accepted? I suppose at the end of the application deadline you'll announce the members (Or maybe you already have and I'm just being hopeful I'll be picked even though I secretly know I won't), but I was curious.
EDIT: Just realized WHY you want a border. 1.7 stuff seems like a great reason. Yea, border sounds good. Don't make it TOO small though.
I love this. We're all posting here in reply to stuff even though we all reckon we won't be the ones chosen and even though Cam probably knows by now at least a rough estimate as to who's in and who isn't XD
*... toddles out quickly*
I'll be disappointed if I don't get in, better just ramp up the stakes.

At this point, I've got a top 30 set up. Only if someone really good applies can it change.
Also, I've gotten a few applications from people who have nothing to do with CTM at all >_>
Hi.
Hi.

WHAT?!
Danger zone.
-Who wants to wait 3 months?
-Everyone wants Monumenta back.
-Terrain generates infinitely.
-Nobody cares about fish.
-Waiting 3 months sucks.

Also, in regards to 1.7, we'll restrict people from going past +/- 1000 x or z coordinates. Once 1.7 is out, feel free to run wild.
Also yuri don't be anxious

Yuri logs on the server, throws up everywhere, builds a grinder, and leaves.
Yup sounds good
