I run my own server but I don't get a lot of practice with building something better the second time. There's also a certain charm with starting from scratch and not having some of the crutches (EE condensers) that you have on an established server. Having said that this will most likely be a part-time gig for me where I come on, build something cool that everyone on the server can utilize (power plant, smelting factory, brewery & bar) and then head on back to my server to keep an eye on it.
I think it would be a lot of fun to come on, see what everyone has done so far, and figure out something that's still in need and get that up and going as quickly as possible. It's also a lot of fun to see different creative strategies, which you get by checking out other servers.
