I understand there are a ton of questions, concerns and interest with this experiment. I am here to say that I have accepted an interview with PC Gamer and I'm hoping their questions will cover any thing you guys want to know. I will post it here when they publish it.
So your selling someone a interview with a copy n paste story slightly edited? ....really?
People have already noted this was just a edited version of a old copy-paste story from, 4chan....soo why are you trying this again?
While I have a ton of questions for the TC, like who organized this to start with and how were the original participants chosen, I think it's a fascinating experiment.
For those that are interested in a human parallel to this, just take a look at Rapa Nui (Easter Island) [also the most isolated human population being more than 3000 miles from the next nearest human settlements]
There are some anthropologists that have theorized this is what happened on Easter Island. Once upon a time, Easter Island was covered with a now extinct, giant species of palms, some more than 50ft tall. The island residents used almost all of the palms for boats (for fishing) and for moving the giant Moai statues. When the supplies of the trees started to dwindle, civil war broke out to control the remaining resources, even resorting to cannibalism. By the time of European arrival in 1722, the island's population had dropped to 2,000–3,000 from a high of approximately 15,000 just a century earlier. By that time, 21 species of trees and all species of land birds went extinct through some combination of overharvesting/overhunting, rat predation, and climate change, the island was largely deforested, and it did not have any trees more than 10 feet tall.
After the arrival of the Europeans (and small pox) and subsequent slave raids on the island, the population actually dropped to 111 people in 1871.
Interesting even after all this time, an experiment like this can remind us of the peril of human nature
I don't believe this story, especially because the 'players' are staying anonymous. When somebody who actually participated in the experiment (if it's even real) breaks their silence, then I will find this to be more credible. You did a very bad job of documenting this, especially considering that this was an experiment.

CAN YOU POST IN ANY TINIER TEXT? geeze.....
for everyone else i made his text bigger so all can read his small post

Haha, Notch just (re-)tweeted this. I'm on the front page.
...I'M FAMOUS!!!!!!
On-topic though. How exactly is this fake?
Edit: Read some other people's posts, they have good points (especially lack of screenshots, terrain looking too much like explosions, no-one knowing how to make cobble generators or repair nether portals).
So, while this is probably fake, it would indeed be interesting to see this actually happen.
this idea is a little out there but what IF this post was faked just to get everyones hopes up and make everyone into perfect guinea pigs before the experiment really happens.
think about it, he tells everyone the experiment and how "successful" it was before in order to get alot of people to want to participate in it. now that everyone wants to, he can easily find people to do it. pretty freaking genius plan if im correct.
its like a scientist for the military telling the public about a new Super Soldier Drug and saying it was Tested with great results but not actually testing it before hand and just scamming people into participating.
Since you seem to believe this utter nonesense, this brings into question the entire legitimicy of the project;
This brings into question the fact of why the lava is not flowing at that certain point, if the hole was dug by the contestants it would flowing due to the block updates, yet it is not. The only way to achieve this is through MCEdit due to the fact that worldedit even updates lava flowing.
You say you've exposed this as a fake? Congratulations, do you want a cookie? Fake or not, the results of this would be highly plausible. If you think it's fake, then recreate it yourself to find out. I'm going to. On a smaller scale, probably, but still. I'm failing to understand why people are so pissy about this being 'fake', as it provided for an interesting read, that really does depict our true nature. I'll recreate this and do daily pictures.

To bad it's a fake.
Seems a bit harsh to say that until it's decisively proven one way or another.
I have sufficient evidence to prove it's a fake.
...and yet...

OP starts talking about cobblestone being a rare resource--COBBLESTONE.
If there was redstone, a fast cobblestone generator is quite easy to build.
If there was ONE BUCKET, a slower, simpler cobblestone generator can be made.
There's obviously water and lava everywhere. So how is it there's no cobblestone?
Same deal for the "broken Nether portal"--one bucket and it gets fixed, no picks needed.
