I've been experimenting with breeding the colored sheep on our family server, and I have some thoughts about how to manage our flock. Since sheep can be dyed from any color to any color, I think it will be easiest and least frustrating to just let the sheep in the pasture be whatever color they are until the next person is ready to work with them. (I thought about having starter sheep of each color in side pens, but I don't think it's worth the trouble, and you can get a much faster start on your color by just dyeing rather than starting with two or four sheep.) I am going to divide the pasture into fourths to make it easier to keep subgroups together. The divisions can be adjusted if we want, so let me know how that size works out. If you need a lot of wool of a color over more than one play session, then put a sign in one quarter to let others know that you are still working with those sheep, then take it down when they're free again. Sound okay?
Brown sheep are kind of an exception, since the dye is very limited. I plan to make a separate enclosure for brown sheep, that we keep brown all the time.
I also did another set of experiments to try to get rid of the glitchy, super-annoying way that sheep jump and flicker at the fence line in SMP. Using walls instead of fences didn't fix it, nor did using a roof. The only thing that really helps is to keep them away from the wall with flowing water. I set up one side of our community pasture like that to see if it works and how it looks: it works, but it looks weird. The question is, does it look *more* weird than having the sheep jump and flicker? Check it out and see what you think.
One final question: instead of remodeling, would it be better to move it closer to the hub, like beside or behind the wheat farm area?
Just curious, could someone PM me when a stable version of Bukkit 1.0.0 comes out? This server peaks my interest and I'll most likely forget about it :\
Serra, I have a wall around my area and my sheep do fine, ie no flicker. I have stone, fence, then stone as the wall. Maybe it's because I don't have alot of them like the pasture area, not sure. My chickens even stay alive. :smile.gif: I do think it has a lot to do with the size of the area they are pinned in. I have a fenced area that is huge so maybe we need to expand the fence area or keep down the number of sheep?
So excited about the update! Brain, where are you? :smile.gif:
It seems that immediately after upgrading your client, you need to restart the game or you'll get that error that CrazyCat posted above. (invalid server key)

Thanks, Brain!
Everyone, the fence under crops thing has been fixed, so don't walk on your wheat. :smile.gif:
The invalid server key is something that has popped up over and over on our family server. I hope we don't have to fight it too hard. It makes logging out for night very painful.
I have now started the new thread. We wont use it for disscussion yet though, but if you want to contribute with facts about the server for new players, stuff that is good for the first page you can send me an message and get the link.
Now its really time to decide on the server name. I have heard two suggestions; New Wita and World on the ground. The name dont matter really, so just decide on something.
I also need help with what to put in the topic title and topic description. I see other server doing fancy fact-filled topics like [1.8.1]Fallout: Rocketeers [Serious Roleplay][Custom Created Quests][Unique Lore][Fallout factions][Mystic Events][Friendly Community][PVP]
So I guess it would be good if we did that too, then we dont have to explain to everybod that they cant use flying and stuff like that.
I'd describe our server as a friendly, build-oriented community on a vanilla-with-protections server. Something like that? Maybe not the build-oriented part?
Okay I am so ready for Thanksgiving! I have my chick pilgrim skin on LOL!
Naaaaw! You just need a little lamb and a crook! XD
To the rest of you:
I need help on the first page of the new thread with an explanation about our applications of Bukkit, what mods we use/not use and our limitations of vanilla. If you know about these things or will know about them, reserve an post for it please. If you need the link to the thread just PM me.
I have covered behavior guidelines, building guidelines, application information and the history of this server. Burrows will write about our common traps, Serra has written about wheat, meat and wool. Silverstars about the storage area and ZaQ will write about the map and the seed itself.

It seems like the only way is to report your own post and ask the mod to remove it.
I have always called it The Hub but I am up for suggestions.
