Thank you for your interest in the server. Your application is actually very well written. However, I do not feel you included much of the server's lore, and there may be other things you don't understand that concern me.
The biggest thing is that, the Pact War was a continent-wide, very destructive force, and sea travel between continents has only been possible recently, after the Pact War had ended. There was no place that escaped the effects of the Pact invasion, and I would very much like you to expand on how Gwen's life has been affected.
Moreover, I'm not exactly satisfied with your definitions of meta-gaming and power-gaming. Please feel free to look over some accepted application's definitions, to give me a better idea of what you may mean.
Magic progression on this server isn't exactly slow. If your character was practising for a year, she would be a rather adept mage. However, as that's unacceptable, I'd like you to simply cut down on the time she's spent practising -- perhaps, instead, she could have only recently learned of her magical aptitude? Other than that, you seem to have an excellent grasp on how magic works on our server.
Finally, I noticed your character to have committing several atrocities in your backstory, including rape. While I'm not going to deny you having someone willing to commit such an act, I'm going to ask you be mindful of those who may have had real life experiences such as that, and if they are uncomfortable, I'd hope you are willing to fade to black, or something of the like.
Correct these issues and I'm confident you'll be playing in no time On a final note, we do not have a Discord server, nor do we plan to get one. You can PM me your skype, or add me at tgaugir16 should you have any questions, or if you would like to be in the Skype OOC chat when you are accepted.
While your backstory isn't particularly lore-breaking, the character certainly is. This is a serious medieval fantasy roleplaying server. To have characters spouting very modern memes ("This is Sparta", Rickrolling, etcetera) does not fit the theme we're going for at all. If you would like to make a more serious attempt, I would be happy to allow you to try again, but do keep in mind the setting we are trying to go for.
Thank you for your interest in the server I've only got some slight problems with your lack of lore inclusion.
The biggest thing is, of course, the Pact War. It was all-encompasing and only ended 5 years ago. Before those 5 years, Barkamsted was the only safe town from the pact for a lot longer than Azram has been alive. Merchant ventures to other towns were simply things that did not happen, though that's not to say his size wouldn't be put to good use as a sellsword or even a guard, hitting orcish camps that got too close or defending Barkamsted proper. Of course, your character would not be able to start as a guard in server, they'd have to apply for the position first.
Just some ideas, make some small corrections and I'll be happy to accept you
-Skype name: I prefer discord if available. PM me if you need my skype.
-Do you have any prior roleplay-related experience, if so could you give an example?
I use to RP back in the days before I quit Minecraft to move on to other games. Now I am coming back, to retry RP again and this server looks interesting. I RP mainly in medieval servers which I think is pretty sweet imo.
-Define Power-gaming in your own words:
Power Gaming is like going over the limitations of the character, ignoring the RP process. Its something like powering up your character. Making him invincible, to avoid death. Or doing definitive actions to kill someone.
An example is like
*Cleave Steve head off*
-Define Meta-gaming in your own words:
Using OOC information for IC conversations. It can be considered as any form of information gathered using OOC methods, and using them ICly to gain an advantage. As example would be calling out a vampire in game, when you heard it over discord/skype.
-Define Role-Playing in your own words:
Role playing is like constantly acting in a particular fashion, such that the society regards the person’s behavior as regular in the particular context.
----IC Info---- -Character name: Gwen McKenzie. Prefers the name Gwen.
-Character race: Half-High Elf
-Character gender: Female
-Character age: 24
-Character Occupation Trader by name, Thief by trade.
-Character description Gwen is lean by nature, I guess it’s a trait from her parents. She stands at roughly 1.6meters, the average of a human height. Through her travels, the carries only a backpack filled with necessities, and a small dagger for ‘self protection’. She is tanned from the sun and does not wear any spectacles. Her eyes are blonde, which she got from her elven counterpart. Her hair is light brown, which she got from her human counterpart.
-Character personality and traits
Gwen is pretty, and she knows it. She generally prefers to drink, but she doesn’t like being seen doing it. Through her travels, people have told her that her tongue may even be sharper then her blade.
Gwen also has an ear for gossip, though she does not indulge in them, she likes to listen. A keen ear as some might say. She is quick with her strikes and fast on her feet. Though easily overpowered, she is mostly able to run as fast as she strikes.
Gwen prefers practically over theories. Meaning that she likes to practice with her dagger, rather then reading some book.
-Character biography
Gwen was born in a poor refugee camp known as silica. Though probably gone by now, she still remembered how her parents had abandoned her. Begging off the streets, with the certainty of death looming overhead, she had to kill at only the age of 10. She still remembers that it was a young boy who tried to steal her only meal for the next day. She remembered tripping the boy, and then strangling him. Though disgusted with herself, Gwen knew that she would have died if she didn’t act.
The stories told of her were of her being a disgrace to the elven race. Elves would spit at her and would generally refer to her as a “mud-elf”. A term she quickly learned were used by elves to discriminate those who were of mix blood.
She had her first stroke of luck at the age of 14. Whereby a young man took her under his wing. Life was going good for Gwen where she was taken as the child that the man never had. They studied together and the man even gave her a necklace. He told her that the necklace could perform feats of magic that she never really understood. Though weak in nature, the man would create fire from the tips of his fingers. Gwen could also see a faint light from the man's ring. Through the weeks, she learnt that, that glow of light was fire magic, amplified by the ring. The man taught Gwen the basics of fire magic and gave her a necklace. Gwen would then always treasure the necklace and use it to amplify her training in the art of fire. The use of magic would completely drain her. She was left tired, but satisfied from learning something new everyday.
Life was good till something changed in the man. The man who took her under his wing, was reading a book. Which he then performed a specific ritual. The man’s hands became dark and soon after he became crazed and started to destroy his books. Though not knowing what to do, she had her first instinct to hide. Ultimately the man took his own life, for reasons unknown to Gwen.
Gwen then knew… reality had returned. She could not go back to the streets after knowing what hardships there was to come. She decided to pack valuables such as food, water and gold. Though almost leaving the house, Gwen saw a dagger by the bed side and quickly took it. Besides, her bag was getting heavy and day light was running out. She quickly searched the house for the remainder of items and left.
She went back to the streets, firstly trying to be a member of the guards, which was then rejected. Then taking on any job such as farming, mining and lumbering. As she became more and more desperate for money, she moved to underground jobs, such as theft and robbery.
By the age of 20, while out hunting to gather some food, she noticed a ripple in the sky but didn’t think too much of it.
As she walked back to camp, she noticed her encampment under attack. People were screaming, shouting, and death were everywhere. Goblins and orcs quickly took over the streets and the guards were swiftly wiped out.
She ran from the camp of Silica. Not knowing where to go and what to do, she saw a band of survivors running from town and met up with them. They said they were heading for the last safe city known as Berkamsted.
Together they travelled. Gwen talked to a few people where she figured she could start a new life there.
Harnessing what they knew, the band travelled the lands with limited food and resources. Mostly relying on there knowledge on the general vicinity. With dwindling food and supplies, an internal civil conflict arose. Gwen didn’t want any part of it and decided to push on without the group.
And so she travelled West. Alone and afraid. Towards the city of Berkamsted. She would start a new life and hopefully forget her past.
For years she travelled the lands, hunting animals, picking berries and doing whatever needs to be done to survive. She ran from the demons and raiders. Passing by encampments to trade for food and supplies. She continues to make her way to Berkamsted knowing that she will be safe there.
-Please give us a short RP response to these two scenarios. (At least one paragraph for each):
You’re walking around the markets at around noon. There’s a lot of people around you, still gathering their items as they prepare to shut down their many stands. Suddenly you feel a gentle lifting of your coin purse as a child graces you and soon after they take off sprinting. You have been robbed.
Gwen quickly turns in shock, which her shock quickly turned to anger. She gave chase to the unknown figure. Only seeing a glimpse of the pick-pocketer while weaving through the crowd. Finally, she had caught up to him. With a quick hand, she placed her right hand on the person’s right shoulder, and her left on the other. Her knee swiftly came up, which met with a soft spot.
Crunch. Was the only sound ever heard.
As the man fell in pain, never knowing what happened, Gwen quickly noticed that it was the wrong one. This was not the pick-pocketer.
People around her were already starting to look. Surrounded by soon to be a crowd, she had to leave. Fast.
Weaving through the crowd again, now a fair distance away, she could hear the place of incident starting to shout. People were looking for her. Her purse never found, but she found satisfaction in breaking nuts.
You’re heading back to the city through the woods when you hear a whining coming from nearby. Upon further investigation you come across a grey-coloured wolf that appears to have its leg caught in a bear trap. Around it is three smaller lumps of fur, obviously puppies belonging to the trapped mother. Without help, they’ll all die, but wolf skins are quite valuable too, not to mention that the nearby farms suffer quite a bit from the wolf population.
Gwen slowly walks up to the scared wolf. The wolf whimpers, but growls back in defense.
Gwen raises her hands to show no signs of attack. She then points to the bear trap, which the wolf somehow understood and calmed down.
Slowly, but surely she moved closer and closer to the bear trap.
Now next to the wolf, she kneels down and looks at the trap. Her left arm slowly sliding to her knife.
With a quick strike, she slashes upwards at the wolf, cutting the wolf’s neck.
The wolf quickly died, but she was already covered in blood.
The pups were obviously scared. They cowered in fear next to their now, already dead mother.
Gwen slowly rose from her kneeling position to a standing position, and look at the 3 clumps of fur.
Cute little creatures. She thought. Maybe Ill even keep one for myself.
Grabbing the 3 defenseless pups and stuffing them in her backpack, she move to skin the mother wolf. She could sell the wolf pelt for gold, and maybe even cook the meat at her next meal.
Self sustainability is worth more then another mouth to feed.
Once done with the mother wolf, she grabbed her backpack with the 3 pups still inside, and started heading to town.
Extra notes: I got no extra notes. Ill need to build this character up more in the RP world.
Only fill out below if you want your character to have magic capabilities. If you don't fill this out, then your character will be incapable of performing any form of magic. Note that it will take significant in character practice and experience to become any form of proficient in magic.

-Magic Biography; Explain the reason you want your character to have magic through backstory application:
Gwen should be able to use magic due to her hardships in life. She had also met a young man who took her in, and he tempered with magic. Though their drives are not the same, she learnt there and then, that magic existed. She performed fire magic. Though still weak and not even feasible, her time at the man house have proven that magic existed. She also knew that there are other forms of magic which could… and would make her stronger.
Gwen strives to learn forms of magic that will help her live comfortably, get rich and ultimately abuse other people.
OOC: I want to use magic as it provides a very unique role playing experience. It opens up pathways to roleplay and I think I am able to use even the weakest of magic to open new pathways of interaction.
-Please give an example in your own words describing the limitations placed upon those who use magic
The limitations of magic is that it requires a great amount of stamina, endurance and concentration. With this great strain, it means that the character would have to constantly practice magic. If magic is used too often, the character may pass out or even die.
Another limitation of magic is that the artifact is always required to be present with the use of magic. Magic cannot be poofed out of thin air, without the artifact.
Without proper training of magic, any magic done without proper supervision and training could cause the user to go crazy or die. Too much magic flowing within a weak artifact could cause the artifact to be broken and the user would not be able to use magic till the user gains another artifact.
Magic also shouldn’t be absurd such as.
I learnt dark magic today. I summon demon. Demon kills everyone.
I think that covers my opinion of the limitations of magic.
-Please give a description of the magic system in your own words:
Magic is generally used and formed through artifacts that the wielder carries. The magical power depends on the artifact itself and not the person. No one should be able to just learn to use magic. Magic should be gifted upon birth. Knowingly or unknowingly (like in my characters case).
Magic also requires a lot of time to use and a longer time to master, even the basic of spells.
The user would send magic flowing into the artifact, which cause the use of the artifact. There are currently multiple types of magic known in Saphriel, and multiple artifacts with its own magic type.
-You are given a weak trinket of Fire, you haven't had much practice with magic yet, but you will try your best. Describe some things you could/would do with this trinket:
For one it’s a basic trinket. It would have its own limitations. For one, my character only has a few weeks of magical experience. So the basis of the spell would only be able to make small embers that would only last a few seconds. My character wouldnt be able to do any other forms of magic until she finds a tutor. My character also could probably use the ember to light a camp fire, or a torch, but could only do it once a day.
This new character and backstory fits our world well. Keep in mind that you will not be able to start with that necklace-trinket, you will have to find one within the world.
Those were the best parts, but I fixed it. Also please not the rest of the app seemed pretty legit to me, all of it seemed serious , but I do agree the this is sparta seemed out of place so I replaced it, please take it seriously.
On the same grounds as the last. I am taking your application seriously; this is probably the most serious part of my job. And I'll not have wannabe Deadpool characters running around, crashing everyone's immersion in their IC attempts to continually break the fourth wall. And since I only have your responses and backstory to work with, I am forced to assume your character is one such person.
As I've stated, we are a serious RP server, and while there are zany characters running about, yours will not fit here. Rather than ignore my advice and vaguely attempt to cover my problems, fix it.
I don't understand what you're saying at all? You speaking chinese? My character isn't fourth wall breaking but thanks for the compliment comparing him to dead pool, but if he was dead pool that'd be unallowed. I don't get it though, you want my character to be Deadpool? I dislike those wannabes, so I don't get you fam. I made the changes, all you reply back with is your character is fourth wall breaking and that I rick rolled you or something like that? Seriously, stop joking around I thought this was serious role play. You think I spent my time writing a long app just to troll? geez
You’re walking around the markets at around noon. There’s a lot of people around you, still gathering their items as they prepare to shut down their many stands. Suddenly you feel a gentle lifting of your coin purse as a child graces you and soon after they take off sprinting. You have been robbed.
I spin around as fast as a tornado. "ROUNDHOUSE KICK," I scream as I roundhouse kick whoever is behind me. I nail a mother and her kids, not really my target. "I'll pay you back for that once I get my gold," I shout as I sprint off towards the thief. Within 2 minutes I begin feeling the effects of exhaustion, but there he is. The thief is doing some mad parkour on top of local shops. I grab a stick from the ground and hurl it at him, it hits his head. He looks back with a confused expression on his face. With his confusion I have enough time to climb up a shop and tackle him down. I grab my coin purse, I should've really bought that wallet instead. "THIS IS SAPRIEL," I shout as I kick him off the building. It's a small drop, he'll only get minor injuries. Justice is served.
"Avenge me," were the last two words that came out of my father's friend's mouth. I didn't even know his name.
"Never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down, never gonna run around and desert you, never gonna make you cry, never gonna say goodbye, never gonna tell a lie and hurt you!" I said. I couldn't let him die, but I could do nothing. With the help of magic Josh vowed to rid the world of evil and he would keep up with his promise.
Do not think me stupid, and do not be rude to the person who decides whether or not you join the server. I am not joking around, and I'll not repeat myself. If you do not wish to comply, then apply elsewhere.
Stop repeating yourself, you already made 3 replies saying the same thing, comply, but you're not telling me what to do only criticizing my character like why? Saying he's a dead pool wannabe, even if he was he'd be better than all those anime weeaboo type character wannabes. And guess who accepted those anime weeaboo characters? You. So miss me with that comply stuff.
You've been told three times, then. If you won't get rid of it, and are going to constantly fight with staff through this, then I certainly don't imagine you'll be much better in the server. Apply elsewhere, farewell.

-Do you have any prior roleplay-related experience, if so could you give an example? I haven't done role playing in about a year but I use to play on many minecraft role playing servers on and off for several years. One that I can remember was called Iriliath but that was a couple years ago
-Define Power-gaming in your own words: Powergaming is making your character too powerful in a situation most often by canceling another character's action or by performing an action without giving the other person a chance to respond to that action.
-Define Meta-gaming in your own words: Metagaming is when you use information that you've learned out of character, whatever it may be, and utilize in role playing situations when your character couldn't have known this information.
-Define Role-Playing in your own words: Acting out the personality of a character who is not yourself

-Character description (At least one to two paragraphs describing your character’s visual appearance.):
Lianthorn is of average height for an ash elf at 6’3’’ and has a lean figure. His hair is long, snow white and tied up in a ponytail behind his head. His skin is a pale gray that would indicate sickness on humans but was natural for his kind and his pupils are a dark red. He often wears a confident and almost smug look and gives off an ominous aura.
He wears an unbuttoned black jacket and a red shirt underneath. He always wears gloves on his hands to hide their disfigurement. His clothing is very light offering very little protection but allowing him for easy movement. This also contributes to his very relaxed posture when standing or when threatened by combat.
-Character personality and traits (At least one to two paragraphs describing their personality traits and/or quirks.):
Lianthorn is a man that finds the most enjoyment in the misfortune of others and is often likely to go out of his way to cause trouble for others. However he is also very craven and prefers to watch the chaos he causes from afar rather than be involved in conflict directly knowing that he has little chance in a fair fight. When faced with a dangerous situation such as a battle with a much stronger foe, he will resort to dirty tricks often using the environment or bystanders to his advantage usually in order to escape the situation rather than defeat an enemy. However even in these instances he maintains a calm and smug demeanor, even taunting his foe in order to throw them off, buying time for him to find an escape route or solution to a crisis. Much of this stems from resentment that many other half elves harbor against higher members of society due to abandonment and persecution. However, this resentment does not manifest into murderous intent against other races. Hence he does not work to lead society to extinction but rather to be a constant thorn in its side.
-Character biography (At least three paragraphs describing your character's history and experiences):
“Lianthorn our scouts report that the orc party will be entering the area by dusk. They’ve got approximately 15 men and a shipment of supplies we could use”, “Excellent we’ll place our Dark Elves alongside the path right here” Lianthorn pointed at a fork in the path on the map, “The orcs won’t have a chance against them in the dark” Lianthorn finished briefing his men on the rest of the attack and dismissed them, ordering them to be ready in two hours. Lianthorn had no idea how many years it had been since the Pact’s War began, only that he’d been fighting for way too long. He led a group of those shunned by the Alliance before the war, criminals, half-elves, even had a half-orc. Even though the Alliance would accept their help now Lianthorn’s men like him still harbored resentment towards the “higher races” for the persecution they’d faced before the invasion. Under Lianthorn’s lead that conducted small guerrilla attacks within the Great Forest. Honestly though Lianthorn doubted his small group of 40 fighters made much of a difference in the conflict but it was one way for them to channel the hatred many felt inside of them.
The Great Forest was familiar territory for most of the fighters. Lianthorn being an Ash Elf was abandoned in the forest when he was born, never meeting his parents. He was raised in a small Dark Elf village by an elderly couple that he later assumed only raised him in an attempt to do something meaningful in the end of their lives. Lianthorn spent the first 13 years of his life there until his caretakers fell dead of old age. Before that he learned basic survival and reading from the Dark Elves and made some friends that he’d eventually return to after leaving the forest after his guardian’s death. Lianthorn didn’t care much when they had died. He was sure the elderly couple did everything they could but love for parental figures was something that Lianthorn never became familiar with. It was a foreign emotion for him given his abandonment from his true parents.
With the elderly couple gone Lianthorn didn’t see much reason to remain in the forest. So he headed for the Human settlements until eventually ending up in the capital of Falkvard. Along his travels and in the city he found that he was constantly looked down upon by the other races. Parents would keep shield their children away, inns would turn him away, and merchants would attempt to rip him off. So Lianthorn just stopped dealing with them. He found that people became bored of the taunts and ridicule eventually and he became practically invisible in the city. No one noticed him anymore but he heard everything. News, secrets, gossip, rumors were all gathered by him as no one payed any attention to him, at this point just a young Ash Elf. With this he decided that a well-informed mind can be more deadly than a longsword. He began to sell information that he picked up, usually by finding someone related to the information hoping to cause conflict. The best ways to cause trouble in higher races was to influence them to fight each other.
Along with his mischief with eavesdropping he also spent time in libraries in Falkvard and in other villages he passed. He mostly ignored books on magical artifacts and scientific advances and focused more on the history of Saphriel. He had a keen interest in past military conflicts and leaders won using clever tactics. And that’s how Lianthorn spent his time in the human settlements and capital for around 10 years.
By the time he had been there for 10 years he had developed a small information network claiming to his agents that he was also just working for a higher man which was an easy story because of his young age for an Ash Elf. Lianthorn had developed more than he could handle and it eventually got him into trouble when some of his agents were caught selling dangerous information that got just about everyone under his command killed. Lianthorn valuing his life more than avenging his subordinates or discovering the secret behind his information fled the human settlements and returned to the Dark Forest.
It was only a few years since his return that the Pact invaded when Lianthorn was about 30 years old. The Lianthorn that had returned to the forest was much more mature, clever, and charismatic, and was seen as someone who could lead in this time of crisis despite just becoming an adult. Lianthorn did his best to organize a defense for the village but once he realized the scope of the Pact’s strength from refugees escaping from the human cities he sent the elderly and children with them.
It was many years since then, Lianthorn thought still looking over the plans one last time before leaving his tent to address his men. Lianthorn wasn’t very concerned though. This was a relatively low risk mission compared to many of his past assignments like holding back the Pact so that a village could evacuate. He left his tent and gave the final briefings to his men and sent them off. He would be arriving at the point of attack shortly afterwards with reinforcements in case they were needed.
When he arrived at the sight, the orcs had been wiped out already and one of his men came to report to him “No causalities Lianthorn, we caught them completely off-guard”, just as Lianthorn had expected. “Good work, collect all the supplies you can carry and we’ll bring them back to camp” Lianthorn smiled. “But there’s one other thing, we’ve recovered a map with a nearby Orc camp. We could push even further and try to take that out as well” his fighter replied. Lianthorn thought for a moment, it would be risky, but taking out the camp would give his men time to rest afterwards. He and his men had been on the run for a while now and it would be nice to have some time to rest. “Let’s do it. I’ll send one of my groups back to bring the rest of our forces and take it out all at once”
The information was a trap however, which Lianthorn realized far too late as they arrived an opening in the forest with no sign of a camp ever being there. Orcs immediately emerged from the forest slaughtering his forces. Lianthorn soon found himself fighting an Orc on his own in the chaos. He was holding his own, but he knew he couldn’t keep it up for long. He had learned to fight quite well during the war because it was that or you die but Lianthorn new he’d have to find an escape soon before his men were completed eliminated. His thought distracted him however as he was hit with a large war hammer in the stomach and sent him to the ground. He looked up only to see a spiked club swing for his head. He hadn’t the time or mobility at the time so his only defense was his hands which he used to block the blow sending large razor sharp spikes through his hands. The pain was intense; unlike anything he had ever felt sending adrenaline through his body and everything slowed down. He could see blood and cartilage ripping from his hands as the club was pulled back and he could see many of his men escaping through the forest, abandoning their leader. He was so filled with hate at that moment. Hate for the Pact for putting him in agony and taking so much, the alliance races for looking down on him for his whole life, and now the half-elves for betraying him and leaving him to day. His hate gave him a last burst of energy. He couldn’t even feel the pain anymore as he rolled out of the way of the swinging weapons and he barely escaped into the forest refusing to stop running even hours after he wasn’t being chased anymore and collapsed.
He hid in the forest years waiting for his hands to heal but they never would. He would never hold a sword again and it wasn’t until many years after the war that he’d be able to wield a small dagger. In a depression he made his was to Barkamsted. He lost his will to fight in the war. He didn’t care who won, he hoped that they would all lose. He simply just lived until the war ended and saw how much damage the Pact and Alliance did do each other and later saw how powerful they could be when they worked together when the gates began to appear.
Lianthorn became vitalized; he had a new goal in life. He wanted to get the races to fight amongst themselves again. He didn’t need to see an all-out war like the; he just wanted to see others squirm. So he decided to return to being the charming and clever Lianthorn that gained him the trust of the Dark Forest villagers although letting his dark side come out much more often, in order to try to re-establish his information system he once had several over 70 years ago.
Lianthorn grins and laughs briefly and calculates where the child is likely headed. With his hands in his coat pockets he begins to walk down an alley and back to a main street before ducking into another alley where the child soon runs straight into him dropping the coin purse as he falls. The is still dazed as Lianthorn leans down to pick up his lost item and then holds his hand out to the boy. “Not bad kid, if you’d pick-pocketed an idiot mercenary or baker you would’ve gotten away with it” Lianthorn remarks. “I’m sorry sir, please don’t hurt me” the child pleads. Lianthorn helps the kid up and grins “Hey, why kill you when I could use someone of your talents? You could work under me and steal something easy than gold but I promise it comes with the reward of gold eventually” “What are you talking about?” “Information my dear boy, now get out of here I’ll be in touch” Lianthorn laughs as the boy scurries down the alley. “He’ll be a good agent of mine” Lianthorn thinks to himself.
Lianthorn smiles, intrigued by the predicament. He briefly considers saving the mother knowing the damage her kind has done to the farms but soon remembers he is likely unable to break the trap with his weakened hands. He thinks for a moment, stuffing his hands into his pocket and grinning. He pulls out a small sack of gun powder and walks over to some nearby trees and sprinkling the powder near the roots and grabs some nearby stick and flick them together creating a spark. As soon as he sees the sparks he quickly dashes away as he watches the gunpowder ignite and the tree begin to take fire. It was only a minute until the entire area was engulfed in flames. Lianthorn intently watches the puppies, curious of what they would do in the situation. Would be abandon their mother to survive, or would they stay with their mother and perish. When smoke began to fill the area the puppies began to run away. Lianthorn frowned “Hmm they abandoned even a loved one in the face of danger, living things always do”. Lianthorn looked once more at the doomed wolf and turned away to escape the flames.
-Magic Biography; Explain your character's magic through backstory application: (At least 3 well-crafted paragraphs. You must describe why your Ash Elf can use their form of magic, where they discovered they were magically gifted, and what benefits this brings to your Ash Elf. We will not accept magic applications that are simply "My Ash Elf can use their magic because this and wants to use it because it'll help him and for RP!
In the Dark Forest Lianthorn had never learned about magic nor the unique way that Ash Elves could interact with magical artifacts. No one in his Dark Elf village used magic and he’d never met another Ash Elf, no less, an Ash Elf who had been able to interact with artifacts. It wasn’t until he left the forest over a decade after he was born that he was first exposed to magic. He had been to taverns and inns where people spoke of magic and he saw some people who were referred to as mages but he himself had never seen anyone use magic. It wasn’t until he made it to Falkvard that he actually saw magic in use. He saw amateur mages use alteration and illusion magic for magic tricks in the streets for entertainment, fire magic to light the torches on the street at night, and even met a healer once that lessened a fever he had.
Lianthorn though never thought that he could use artifacts or even considered it but one day while walking in the streets of Falkvard he walked by what he saw as a crazy old man on the street dressed in old rags. However when he passed closely the man grabbed his arm and excitedly said “Hey!, you’re an Ash Elf aren’t you?”. Lianthron sighed because of the inconvenience of having to interact with an obviously delusional man and sarcastically replied “Yeah, what gave it away, my white hair or my grey skin?”. The man ignored Lianthorn’s sarcasm and continued “I used to be a mage at the college, you ash elves… your kind has an extremely unique reaction to artifacts that I must undertstand. Please let me try some tests on you” Lianthorn was growing tired of the man’s ramblings and started to pull his arm away from the man’s grip. “No please wait” the man said realizing Lianthorn was trying to get away “Just hold this” he said reaching into his pocket and place a small amulet with a yellow gem into Lianthorn’s hand. “What is this” Lianthorn started before several tiny sparks began to emit from the gem, surprised by the effect he pulled his arm away at threw the amulet back at the man and say “Get away from me” and hurried away from the man yelling for Lianthorn’s return.
Within the next few days Lianthorn found himself in a library again and reluctantly looked for a book on Ash Elven magic and learned of rumored strange effects Ash Elves had with magical artifacts. He considered returning to the man after reading about the magic but he never saw the man in the streets again. Lianthorn counted never meeting that man as good luck years later after powerful magic artifacts starting the destructive Pact War and he was thankful that he hadn’t gotten involved in it. When he commanded his group in the Dark Forest he refused to consider trying to track down and possibly use magical artifacts as he thought they were too dangerous and unpredictable to use in battle. It wasn’t until being abandoned by his men and his current disdain for others and love for causing trouble that he saw usefulness in the magic that he had avoided in the past. So when he decided to return to information brokering he set one of his many goals of his business as gathering information about the whereabouts of interesting artifacts and means of learning how to use them. With this he would be able to run his business more efficiently and cause trouble for others with the use of tricky magic.
-Please explain, in your own words, the limits Ash Elves have placed on them: (This should be one to two well-made paragraphs)
Ash Elves are capable of recognizing magic potential in an artifact and identify the said potential. Additionally they can activate artifacts quicker and sometimes with more power although since Ash Elves cannot use magic they cannot control the effects or the extent of the power. In all Ash Elves do not possess magic affinity like other races do with no magic reserves or specialize in specific magical aspects.
Ash Elves also have the same or similar limits other races would have. In a roleplaying sense, they cannot use magic in a form of power gaming by using artifacts against someone without giving them the chance to respond to the use of the artifact. This is especially important for Ash Elves as with high concentration Ash Elves can produce more powerful effects from the artifacts so it’s very important for people playing Ash Elves do avoid power gaming. Ash Elves although less effected by are still bounded by stamina to an extent of activating artifacts and still require practice using artifacts in order to activate them properly. Lastly as with other races they cannot produce incredibly powerful effects with weaker artifacts.
Side note: When I looked through the website on magic for Ash Elves I found somethings unclear and I was unable to find any successful Ash Elf magic applications but this is what I was able to come up with from the information I could find on the website so please criticize away here if I am way off
-Please give a description of the magic system in your own words:
Instead of using spells magic can only be used with the possession and through a magical artifact. These artifacts are often in the form of trinkets and tomes. In addition to needed an artifact a user is also limited by the power of the artifact itself. Each artifact is also bound to a specific type of magical aspects that the wielder must be proficient in. Furthermore the user can wield the artifact to its full potential with continued practice. So utilizing the magic system comes down to having magical potential, an artifact, knowledge of it’s potential, and practice in its use.
Everything in your application looks great! I'd like to thank you for taking the time to read our lore, I can tell you really paid attention!
The only thing that needs to be edited is the hair color. Ash elves have white hair, always. Not any form of mix of gray and white, just snow white, like Dark elves. Change that, and we should be golden!
Don't know why my app was flagged as spam? It was right away apparently.
That's alright. I'll repost is below:

-Do you have any prior roleplay-related experience, if so could you give an example? Yes, I have been hardcore roleplaying for two years now. I've played on various servers including, Legend of Aelryth/Alvaeron/Elnion, Age of Adventures, and Project Horizon. Before that, I played other semi-hardcore roleplay servers for around six months.
-Define Power-gaming in your own words: Power-gaming in roleplay happens when one party performs an act that is specifically gives no reaction opportunity to the other party unless there is a logical in-character reason for this an example being that the other party in unconscious. If Bob is in sword fight with his brother Billy Bob (because Billy Bob refused to take out the trash) and Bob emotes the following "Bob swings his sword upon Billy Bob's right knee sheering a clean cut and bringing Billy Bob to the ground." which gives Billy Bob no chance to block or dodge his attack, then Bob would be power-gaming.
-Define Meta-gaming in your own words: Meta-gaming in roleplay is when one party performs an act using information learned in some out-of-character form. If Bob is off adventuring without his brother, Billy Bob, (because Billy Bob took an arrow to his knee) and during his travels is surrounded by the vicious Robert Robber Bandits and then procedes to out-of-character message all his Bobby brothers to save him and they came, then the Bobby brothers would be meta-gaming.
-Define Role-Playing in your own words: Role-playing is the act of one person playing the role of another person in a fictional sense, often for recreational work. If Bob is a role-play character and Robert Childan acts for him, then Robert Childan is role-playing.
-Character Occupation: Mineral Collector (also known as a miner)
-Character description:
~A small group of dwarves sit around a lantern in a remote part of the cave eating one of the lunches their wives packed for them. At the same time, a man begins to approach appearing to be the tallest thing in the mine besides the ceiling. At every low bearing beam he must duck under what would be feet above the dwarves' heads. As he got closer the tall man begin to produce a chinking and jingling sound as a variety of small bags tied to his belt or shoulder pad bumped into one another. Presumably, those bags would be for sorting small amounts of precious gems and stones. The light flushed on his slightly dirtied, but well-kept face and two dark lines protruded from underneath his eyes. The lines are the color of dark black coal and are probably just that. His hair is the brightest and cleanest thing about him. Two strands fall on the sides of his face imitating sideburns and the rest is brought back into a raised ponytail. His chin is extended by a small, yet full pointed blonde gotee. He wears a think tan scarf around his neck like ones used by humans in the mines to filter out the bad air. The rest of his clothing is dark though, black tunic, and black pants. The seven foot man approaches the group his right slightly muscular arms rests on the handle of an stone iron-tipped pick that rests into his shoulder pad. His deep blue eyes, his speckled orange eyes (freckles) and his crescent moon scar on under his right eye stared at the dwarves. His long elvish ears wiggled and he muttered "'Ello."
-Character personality and traits:
Some may say that Taur seems like a quiet person, but in reality he just isn't inclined to talk. He doesn't find small talk necessary nor is it appealing. One wouldn't find Taur making much conversation, but instead getting his work done. He has a drive for his work, probably because it constitutes all he has. Taur isn't very sentimental though. He isn't extremely attached to material, but he does value people. Although he may come off as abrasive he does enjoy time with friends and values the ones he loves. His friends are mostly just his bar buddies some of which work in the mines as well. They are all people who just decided to treat him with kindness nothing special. He also doesn't discriminate although, he does believe people are made and built better than others, but this isn't a racial thing to him. His respect is measured by how much he acknowledges you and not by calling one sire or sir which is just a adage he has.
-Character biography:
It was on a normal day in Silivrenmîr that Taur was born. The day was bland there was nothing particularly bad or good, beautiful or ugly, interesting or dull, about it and the day really represents the person it brought. Taur was a bubbly baby as in bubbles came out of his nose. He was a healthy baby, but a sick baby. He always had a runny nose when he was little for around a year until The Pact War came. When The Pact War came his mother's hope that Taur would have a true elvish education faltered (not that his family could afford it anyways). Taurith's father was a warrior, but only stayed at the entry-level position because he owed his captain money. His father luckily stayed home and manned the walls because of this though. Taurith's mother came from a rich family, but she fell for Taur's father when she was young and disobeyed her parents which lead to them disowning her. Taur's mother couldn't of been happier being with Taur's father though.
Again, The Pact War had came and eventually the family's happiness would be thwarted. When Taur was around ten The Pact sacked Silivrenmir and Taur and his mother were forced to evacuate. His father died fighting The Pact and his mother told him so did his grandparents (even though later he would find out that they survived, but his mother couldn't and didn't to go back to them). Taur never asked about them knowing they never wanted him to exist. He doesn't even know his mother's maiden name. While they were evacuating a number of humans soldiers followed them to protect them. They were put to use when an orcish calvary unit came to raid the refugees of their possessions. The horse backed orcs rode straight into the brigade. One of them rode with his sword lowered to cut the elves below him. The sword nearly missed Taur and his mother, but left a nasty cut on his cheek that would scar. One of the humans instantly came to guard Taur's mother and Taur. Taur's mother saw this man as courageous and gave him credit for their lives. She kept in touch with the man once Taur and his mother arrived in Barkemsted and eventually she fell in love with him and married. He was a respectable warrior and respected his mother so Taur really had know problem with it even though he believed his father was still alive. His mother gave birth to a half-elf named Terin. Terin was more human than elf it seemed and fit in a lot more than Taur in Barkemsted. Taur didn't desire time with human children and no elf would go near so he often stayed home doing chores for his mother or letting her teach him to read and write elvish and common. Taur loved his mother mor than anyone else because she cared for him. Taur never really got to know his step-father he was always gone in battle.
When he grew up Taur had no desire for war unlike his half-brother who immeaditely enlisted in the army. Taur stayed with his mother and helped run her little bakery. He was never much of a cook though and so he became a waiter a job he hated. So, when there was a big push for helping the war effort Taurith signed up to be a miner. Taur quickly learned the techniques of mining and what each type of mineral was and what it was used for, but took awhile to develop the muscles to swing a pickaxe. He managed though and has been mining since that date. He hasn't made much money, but then again everyone no fighting was mining or lumberjacking so there was lots of competition. When mining Taur developed his habit to go out for a drink and developed his accent. Taur enjoys what he does and works fairly hard especially since he isn't caring for his sick mother anymore after her passing. Her death was the only one that has caused Taurith significant pain. Not his brother's or fathers' deaths. His mother gave him time and that meant a lot to him. So live ro make her proud is what Taur says and he has been working hard since not trying to end it in a demon war, etc..
-Please give us a short RP response to these two scenarios. :
You’re walking around the markets at around noon. There’s a lot of people around you, still gathering their items as they prepare to shut down their many stands. Suddenly you feel a gentle lifting of your coin purse as a child graces you and soon after they take off sprinting. You have been robbed.
After swiftly turning around Taurith arches his brow curious about himself putting anything in his pocket and not in one of the pouches that are tied to him by rope. Remember he left his overflow coin purse in his pocket Taurith chuckles turning around counting on one hand how many coins were in there. Won't make that mistake again he thought to himself. He would abruptly check his other pouches hoping that the boy wasn't able to sneak anything else. Not wanting to have any small talk with the dimwit guard stationed in the market square today Taurith continues on his wasy right up to the precious stone vendor.
Taurith would let out a long sigh after seeing the trap intended for a bear inflicting so much pain to the poor animal. He knows it's all natural for a wolf to die, but never with so much pain. Taur sometimes wished that one day the hunters will get caught in their own traps. Yet, Taurith thought that a wolves teeth are like a bear trap themselves causing so much pain to the sheep. Is it just then that the hunters get trapped in their own trap then? He looks at the little pups and then the mother thinking A mother doesn't deserve this. His thoughts go back to his own mother and how she cared for him and how he loved her so much. Out of that fact alone Taur decided to release the mother and her pups walking back along the path thinking of his mother.
-Magic Biography; Explain the reason you want your character to have magic through backstory application: (At least three extremely well-crafted paragraphs. You must describe to us why your character can use magic, what drives him to further his ability, how he learned that he could use magic, and what benefits magic brings to this character, what type of magic they’ll strive to use, etc. This is not a middle school paper! I will not accept applications that say “My character got my magic from x, and he wants to use it because it’ll help him! Also for RP!")
Taur has absolutely no magic experience at all. He knows that most High Elves have magical capabilities, but he is the kind of person that will let the cards fall into his hands. He remembers as a kid his mother telling him stories of the three elemental elves. He was always fascinated by the stories of the elvish knights fighting dragons using the powers of nature, fire, and ice and distracted him from the war going on around him as a boy. It was the only game he would ever play with his brother. he never has had the opportunity to test himself though he concludes he probably has the capability. In fact, the only thing his mother ever told him about her family was that they had magical capability and their ancestors had been mages. Taur liked to think they were the three elementals when he was a boy.
Taur has never met or seen an actual mage just the traveling "magician" that existed in the early days of The Pact War. Although, Taur fantasized being a fire mage when he was little. Now though, he thinks it would be pretty useful. He imagines lighting a lantern with his forefinger and his thumb or even just to watch the flame float above his thumb with just a flick. He also likes to imagine how threatening it would be. Even if he couldn't do much he could scare a person with a flame easy. Taur has thought about magic, but he has never tried it. He thinks it one way to make his mother proud or maybe he wants to be proud of his heritage.
-Please give an example in your own words describing the limitations placed upon those who use magic (This should be at least one well-crafted paragraph):
Though there are physical limitations of a mage a mage's biggest limitation comes from the source of their power itself, their trinket. Their trinket's power is what limits a mage. If a mage tries to channel more through the trinket than the trinket can hold then the trinket will fail and explode. Additionally a mage must put a lot of work into channeling power through a trinket. A mage must put a lot of time into a trinket meditating and learning it's capabilities. If a mage tries to channel more power than they physically can take then they can expend themselves and physically hurt themselves or even kill themselves if too much power channels through the body. All mages must be careful too because mages aren't immune to the magic they wield and can physically hurt themselves when channeling even the smallest amount of magic.
-Please give a description of the magic system in your own words:
The magic system of Saphriel is unique being a mage can' cast a spell or channel magical energy without the use of a trinket. These trinkets range in power too. A mage can cast only so much through one trinket before having to get a stronger one. One trinket might only wield the tiniest flame while another might let a mage cast a giant fireball. Trinkets also come in many different forms each providing only one aspect power. Aspects can range of anything from fire and other elements to dark and light magic. Also how much power one can channel through a trinket or artifact is dependent on the experience of the mage. If a mage is more experienced then he can do more with a trinket.
-You are given a weak trinket of flame, you haven't had much practice with magic yet, but you will try your best. Describe some things you could/would do with this trinket:
Taur would stare at the weak trinket before standing from the barstool to ask the mysterious old man who gave him it to look at some questions about it. Seeing the man disappeared Taur walks into the street waving off the bartender saying "I'll pay my tab next week, I promise or you can double charge my ****." before the bartender could open her mouth. Looking around the street Taurith sighs as he just misses the old man walking into an alley. He would continue on his walk and after not finding the man he heads to the market square to see what he could get for the red gemstone trinket. The precious stone vendor just looked at Taur exclaiming at him.
"I can't take this, you ****. What if it a dark-y magic-y thing-y? I could get arrested, eh. Feck off son."
Taur would sigh "Your lost, ****!" He would walk off not happy with the vendor ever. Not knowing where to take it Taur takes it home. At home he investigates the peculiar thing. It is a transparent red crystal attached to a broken gold chain. It's attach by etched gold clamp. Nothing Special he thinks. Taur sits on the ground with it thinking. What am I supposed to do meditate? He tries this for only like a few minutes before giving up.
"Maybe I'll check out the Mage's Guild 'morrow..." he mutters before heading to bed after putting the trinket into one of his pouches.
Side Note:
I have no intention for him to start with any magic ability or even an aspect. I just want Taur to have the capability.
Uhm.... Yeah. Don't exactly know what is happening here? It says I'm flagging it as spam and now it won't let me edit anything? Uhmmm... Don't know what I need to do. My app keeps appearing as spam I guess. Spam isn't even that tasty.
I've edited the hair color and added a Ash Elf Magic section. I was somewhat confused with some of the wording on the Ash Elf magic section so if I'm way off feel free to tell me so, you won't hurt my feelings.

I have played player created rp's on creative servers however, I do not believe I have played an rp server like this.
-Define Power-gaming in your own words:
When someone focuses on one thing (Ex: Becoming a Master Swordsman) and ignores everything else, as in; story line, interaction, etc.
-Define Meta-gaming in your own words:
When someone does something that is outside the limitations or environment of the rp.
-Define Role-Playing in your own words:
I believe role playing is when you become someone your not, and you interact with others to create a story based off all of your unique characters.

-Character description: Has white hair that almost reaches her thighs, it has natural loose curls. She also has bangs that reach just above her eyes and bangs that frame her face. Her eyes are a pink red with orange and lighter red highlights, it's darker at the top of her iris. (Picture at bottom) She often wears a button up shirt and a skirt that ends just above her knee. She wears thigh-high socks and often boots that stop around mid-shin.

She is quite agile and very fast, she knows the basics of fighting but would like to further her knowledge.
-Character biography: Her mother is a Dark-Elf and her father is a High-Elf, thus she is a Ash-Elf. Her father is gone fighting in the war and her mother is gone most of the time either drinking or working. Her father left when she was about 4 and they haven't seen him for 13 years although he does send mail. Her mother is a baker and wants Kaiela to be one as well.
Answer: I chase after the child determined to have my coins returned. They take a sharp turn and I follow into a dark, damp alley, however the child is nowhere to be found. I sigh trudging back towards home without the 2 sacks of flour mother requested.
Answer: I frown and walk towards the wolf and she snarls at me nudging her pups behind her. I open my satchel and pull out a small roll, I pull off a piece and I hold it out to her. She tries to shrink away but the trap prevents her from doing so. I place the piece in front of her on the ground and take a few steps back. I watch as she sniffs the chunk and eats it in one bite, so I toss the rest of the roll over to her and her pups. She eats some and encourages the pups to do the same. After they finish eating I walk over to the mother and hold my hand out to her, she looks at my hand then up to me and sniffs my hand before nudging my palm with her nose. I smile and pat her head lightly before reaching down and gripping the trap. As I try to pry it off her leg she whines and growls at me. I finally snap the trap open and she jumps back and away from both me and the trap. I push the trap back open and smile at the retreating forms of the small family.
Sorry about the delay! Character and Magic applications are both Accepted!
Thank you for the application, it shows you have a clear grasp on the server's lore and the systems present. I hope you enjoy your time with Saphriel!
Thank you for your interest in the server, it is clear you did a little bit of research. However, this application is far too minimal to meet our standards. Your backstory, description, basically everything needs to be expanded upon.
Another thing to note is, an Ash Elf at the age of 17 is extremely juvenile. This isn't something I'm going to deny you from playing, but keep in mind that an Ash Elf around 17 will be the equivalent of a human aged around 7-10. If you wish for a "teenage" Ash Elf, one approaching adulthood, you may want to consider putting her age between 25-30.
Both backstory and magic applications are Denied
Denied
While your backstory isn't particularly lore-breaking, the character certainly is. This is a serious medieval fantasy roleplaying server. To have characters spouting very modern memes ("This is Sparta", Rickrolling, etcetera) does not fit the theme we're going for at all. If you would like to make a more serious attempt, I would be happy to allow you to try again, but do keep in mind the setting we are trying to go for.
Pending
Just some ideas, make some small corrections and I'll be happy to accept you
I believe I made all the necessary edits. If not i'll happily try again.

----IC Info----
-Character name: Gwen McKenzie.

_______________________________________________________________________
My character also could probably use the ember to light a camp fire, or a torch, but could only do it once a day.
the world will finally know peace

Those were the best parts, but I fixed it. Also please not the rest of the app seemed pretty legit to me, all of it seemed serious , but I do agree the this is sparta seemed out of place so I replaced it, please take it seriously.
Denied
You think I spent my time writing a long app just to troll? geez

----IC Info----
-Character name: Lianthorn Ralofaren
-Character race: Ash Elf
-Character gender: Male
-Character age:108
-Character Occupation (optional, note you still must talk to the lord about loaning or purchasing any stall/shop for your character if he/she would have one. This more or less helps us to better understand your characters starting skill set): Information Broker

Also, while it isn't required, if you want your Ash Elf character to have the Ash Elf version of magic, you'll need to include the ash elf magic application here too. The questions for that portion can be found here: http://therealmofsaphriel.enjin.com/forum/m/32802907/viewthread/28024476-ash-elf-magic-application
And I apologize that it took us so long to respond to your application, things have been hectic around these holiday times!

Yeah, Spam is very meh. Go ahead and post your server application on the character applications forum here
http://therealmofsaphriel.enjin.com/forum/m/32802907/viewforum/6137017
Be sure it follows the format that you would use to post here, and be sure to mention that Paragon okayed this.
As for you, eamafa, Thech will return to finish with your application. Thank you for your patience <3
Do you still want me to, even though my repost got unmarked as spam?
Your application is ACCEPTED

-Please give us a short RP response to these two scenarios. (At least one paragraph for each):
You’re walking around the markets at around noon. There’s a lot of people around you, still gathering their items as they prepare to shut down their many stands. Suddenly you feel a gentle lifting of your coin purse as a child graces you and soon after they take off sprinting. You have been robbed.
Answer: I chase after the child determined to have my coins returned. They take a sharp turn and I follow into a dark, damp alley, however the child is nowhere to be found. I sigh trudging back towards home without the 2 sacks of flour mother requested.

Denied
Thank you for your interest in the server, it is clear you did a little bit of research. However, this application is far too minimal to meet our standards. Your backstory, description, basically everything needs to be expanded upon.
Another thing to note is, an Ash Elf at the age of 17 is extremely juvenile. This isn't something I'm going to deny you from playing, but keep in mind that an Ash Elf around 17 will be the equivalent of a human aged around 7-10. If you wish for a "teenage" Ash Elf, one approaching adulthood, you may want to consider putting her age between 25-30.
