This is hideous. I mean, really, really hideous. It looks like someone sculpted it out of plastic. The fact that JAPPA even thought these textures were a job well done makes me doubt even more that he is qualified for this task.
What's even worse is that he seems to be especially sensitive about anyone not liking his textures, yet constantly trashes the old ones on his twitter. For such an important job his attitude is very poor towards negative opinions.
I keep seeing "just use a resource pack" as an excuse for anyone who complains about the update, yet none of the people who use it seem to understand how ironic of a statement it is.
Depends. Cobblestone really looks awful, or, more accurately, less like a bunch of cracked rocks and more like some sort of stone pavement, which makes it look bad when used in buildings, which I can already expect is going to be awful, considering that it's easily the most common building material, as it goes with practically anything but sci-fi and modern structures (The former practically only look good if made with metal blocks, and the latter look better with bricks), and it's very cheap, so most people who build large structures in Survival use it.
In this case, the previous texture should be put back, probably with a bit of a "remake" that looks similar but doesn't clash so much with the other textures, while the new one would be more fitting for a "stone path" block.
Wood looks well, whilein the case of planks, the dark pixels that aren't part of the plank borders are less eye-catching, so they're better IMO.
As for the crops, wheat looks a bit better, as it looks more similar to actual wheat, althrough it now looks like there's less wheat per block, which feels a bit weird. Carrots and potatoes show few clear differences.
