I do not believe Mojang thinks that way. Mechanics, design, balance. They just keep adding stuff. They could perfectly add a useless parrot, or a parrot with abilities making other pets or items useless, or an OP parrot. They would not see a problem in that, nor would the majority of people on MCF. Don't forget the hive mind works with a retarded "don't like it don't use it" logic when it comes to additions/suggestions, and I don't think Jeb disagree. You can't really reason with gameplay in mind to predict the future of this game, unfortunately.
There are no purposeless mechanics in Minecraft. Purposeless blocks? Debateable. But every mechanic up 'til now has a purpose, a reason for existing that someone would want to use it for other than "it exists so may as well use it." There's a reason why rabbits stopped being tameable, why fireworks are now something you'd want to make.
On another note, grab your butts and sit still for a few moments people. You haven't even seen them in-game yet for yourself. So stop crying they're "useless" when you don't even use a fraction of the mapmaking features unless it's for a gimmicky "one-command lucky block" thing, let alone know they exist.
Good lord, this community... Can't wait for the first snapshot.
Rarely used is not the same thing as useless, and the problem is purposelessness or pointlessness, not uselessness.
Maybe the complains and frustration about the parrots come from the fear, that they have to wait even longer for their eagerly awaited new feature X and Y. So they feel that Mojang wastes resources on such "pointless" features. (I don't, I like parrots)
No, the "complaints" are actually concerns about parrots having a point. There is an underlying wish that they will have a point. Please don't make up weird conclusions.
Because lack of purpose in design leads to pointless add-ons and fluff that don't do anything. For example: Congrats! You've tamed a parrot. Now what? Aesthetics are good and all for appearances alone, and that's why I'm not opposed to parrots in general. But pet mechanics? That should not be for aesthetics.
Possibly. However, considering over the years they've steadily rewritten mechanics and various code to be better and more modular all the while including new features utilizing said mechanics, it only makes sense that the lighting engine is next. Besides, it would fit in with the update's theme.
True, it's possible it might not be colored lighting. However, I still find it likely.
I'd like to continue discussing this, but I think this thread is more for discussing known future additions than it is for speculation. I don't know what thread is for speculation, though.
I'd hardly call colored beds a big addition. Colored lighting does sound likely considering the amount of time.
Given their past protests about colored light, I'd think it'd take much longer to implement something like that. It's far more likely we're talking about a new mechanic, block, or structure for the time frame.
