Definitely not bad. Of course, it looks larger on the outside than it actually is on the inside, mostly because of the interior courtyard. So you're limiting yourself there. But I do like the overall design.
Now of course, what you should start focusing on is making your exterior walls deeper. And by that, I mean give them layers. This is so your walls aren't so horribly flat. You've already started doing so by adding that ring of wood outside. If you're in 1.3, I would recommend changing that slab ring to a different color of wood. Other ways to make your walls less flat is to bring those pillars outward from the wall. Make sills for your windows, and shutters if you can.
The roof is nice, and complex, which is always fun. But give it some struts or something so that it's not just one monotonous cobble roofline.
Of course, adding double-thick walls and floors is always a good option for these builds: Double-thick walls allow you to have differently-colored walls in two separate rooms, or from outside to inside; double-thick floors are always nice for any build because they allow you to have ceiling lights on the first floor, or rugs on the second floor, without affecting the other.
And of course, use less wood. You've got so many types of stone available, as well as a bunch of differently-colored wools, not to mention jewel blocks (although these should be used very sparingly, and only in certain cases).
So long as I can only see pictures, this is the most advice I can give you right now. If I were on the server, or had the map you were building this on, I could give you far more in-depth help. But my fingers are tiring, so I'll leave you here. I hope this helps you. And a good day, from a Sniper on The Voxel Box.
Hey you're really good! I'm hosting a minecraft contest and I'd love to see you as a contestant. This round is a 3 man group competition where you have to build a city. You have to pay an entry fee of $5 per person but you can win $90. PM me if you have any questions!
Oh, much better! Obviously if you made this a bit bigger, you could work with it even more; but what you've done with it is comparatively much better than the last version. Now let's just see some nice interior work!
Haha, all you need is a little practice. Try looking at JamziBoyMinecraft's YouTube channel, he has a ton of tutorials, and that's what's given me the general idea of how to build cool houses like this one.

What do you think? Also, don't judge me for using the standard texturepack, just wanted to show you guys what it's made out of without confusion.
