I don't use the computers there much, but they've "blocked"everything as in, half baked attempts at blocking things which can be circumvented in minutes.
Stupid things, like the MAYO CLINIC website. I got in trouble by my science teacher for not looking up information for my project. But youtube, reddit, MCF, and most sites are okay. However, it blocks the weirdest thinks, like nike, SOUNDCLOUD, and amazon.
Back when I was in high school, they blocked a ton of websites. This was right before Facebook so MySpace was what everyone was using, and of course that was blocked. It kind of got ridiculous at one point when they were blocking things by keywords, so you couldn't even go to a website that had the word "analysis" in it because it assumed it was porn.
As for the actual computers, they had the permissions locked down pretty tight. They even disabled the ability to right-click on the taskbar! So if you wanted to close something you had minimized, you had to open it up and manually press the X button. And then every night in the middle of the night, the computers would reformat themselves so everything you had saved on that local computer would be gone and it would take several minutes just to sign in because it had to create your profile all over again every time.
They also would monitor some of the web traffic you were using and would occasionally spy on your AOL Instant Messenger conversations. I would bring my own laptop into school and at one point I was chatting with a friend on AIM about some remote desktop type of software and I got called into the office the next day and they literally had printouts of my chat transcripts thinking I was planning some kind of hack. The worst part of course that I was using my own computer and they still had the ability to collect my AIM logs. They also had software on all of the student computers so the administrators or teachers could take control over any of the computer's mice and keyboards.
One time in an engineering class my friend's mouse moved slightly when he didn't touch it and he noticed something weird happened. He opened up Word and typed "leave me a lone or I'm going to chop you up into cube sized pieces". Within 10 minutes there were school administrators knocking on the door to take him away for threatening them while they were spying.
But then in college, there were no restrictions. They would occasionally limit your bandwidth if you were downloading too many torrents (so it wouldn't clog up the network for everyone else), but that was it. They even kept the latest World of Warcraft patches on the school network so you could download them directly very quickly so the school internet wouldn't die every Tuesday morning when the weekly patch came out.
Only blocked websites over here are Youtube and possible facebook.
Continued from my last post, our school has a server. Every pc in the school has complete access to all the files. EVEN DELETING! There have been several things going on where people have been moving files to the wrong place. Even 5 year olds have to power to delete all the files. Thats scary. There is several terrabytes there.
Wow, that's some serious restrictions. What's funny is that the school should be wrong in first place for spying, as it's technically invasion of privacy.
I'm glad that my school isn't this strict i can play rift on my own computer and run a minecraft sever on the school computers but that only during lunch not class time unless your in the library they really don't seem to care what you do in spare here. unless you drinking alcohol, doing drugs, or smoking on the property.
really i can go on some sites like mediafire or adf,ly but i also have 3D design course here so that you can get free models for your projects so i can download things

A lot of game sites are blocked along with Facebook, Youtube, Twitter etc. We can run .EXEs on the desktops but not on the laptops. The library has a list of what games you can play on its computers (which I think is stupid because the only good game allowed is MC).
You should be happy I got suspended off the computers for a month for playing minecraft last year >_>
We are only allowed to access the computer with the permission and surveillance of an authority (teachers in general). After we perform our school works, most of them allow us to surf the web until the class time ends.
There are few blocks on mainstream sites (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, YouTube) as it is uncommon for people access other sites. For example, one day I played EBF III on Newgrounds.com
Everything that has to do woth non-learning related games, videos, forums, pretty much the whole internet except for educational sites.
Sometimes a girl just wants to use the MCF after a test. Is that too much to ask?
When I started high school, you could do everything on the laptops (except for gaming and unrelated websites.) Now, because of the exploits found on our laptops the school techies blocked all .exe files, the control panel, task manager and even google chrome. It became hell for us. But luckily for me, they haven't re-imaged my laptop so i have like 100+ games.
My schools look at people's search history, if they find something they don't like, they block it. Every so often, a new gaming site is discovered, and everyone tries to use it and then clear their history. There's still one gaming site they throw back and forth from blocked and unblocked. News sites aren't blocked. The most surprising thing is, YouTube is not blocked, despite the strictness.

It's not my fault
