Worst case scenario, the plague is dormant for a very, very long time and has actually spread to almost the entire population of earth before the symptoms begin.
It would be extremely hard for the virus to spread while dormant. When viruses such as the herpes virus become dormant, they do so by integrating their DNA (or RNA. Whatever.) into their victim's DNA. During this state, new viruses are not produced by the infected cell, and there is no way for the virus to spread. Over time, the infected cell will replicate itself, with each new cell containing the virus' DNA. The virus may become active at some point, which causes the cell to start producing more viruses, which are then able to spread to new cells just like in any other viral infection.
To get to my point, while the virus is dormant, there's basically no way for it to spread to another person. Only direct exchanges of bodily fluid even have a chance of spreading the virus. Also, the virus would not become active in everyone at the same time. If the virus stayed dormant for a long enough time to spread to almost everyone, it would most likely become active in a small amount of people at a time. It could be years between any decent sized outbreaks.
The problem with a Zombie Apocalypse is you know theres the miltary, police, and the massive amount of guns that everybody has.
Probally just barricade the door and let the miltary sort it out
I'd wait for the military to either, A: Bomb the s*** out of the zombies or B: Do anything else to wipe out the zombies. Its kinda hard to infect an entire military. Then theres police forces. A zombie apocalypse wouldn't be very dangerous IMO.
