There's no point. Just tell him he has no place there and be done with it. That would be helping him by not wasting his time, the people helping him's time, and maybe a little bluntness and making him feel bad will help him grow up a bit.
That's pretty much what they did, except they weren't blunt about it. There are plenty ways to help someone to grow up without being a **** about it. It's up to the people who helped him to decide if they wasted their time or not, and if they thought their approach was going to waste time, they probably wouldn't have done it in the first place.

Sure there are, but why bother with them? For the sake of not being one? Please, there are just some methods that are more effective, even if they aren't the pinnacle of niceness.

And the reason why people don't think they are wasting time by helping people in that thread is because by playing nice they think they will increase their chance of becoming mod more. None of the niceness in that thread, aside from the people who are already mods and admins, are actually out of people just wanting to be nice.
