A lucid dream is any dream in which the dreamer is conscious (i.e. aware of the dream and that s/he is dreaming). While lucid dreaming, it is possible to fly, summon whatever you want, change the landscape, and more. They can be great fun as well as providing insight to your unconscious, or uncontrollable, mind.
How to induce a lucid dream:
WILD (Wake-Initiated Lucid Dream)
1.Lie in a comfy position.
2. Start imagining your muscles untensing.
3. Count your breaths on the inhale and on the exhale think "I'm dreaming." Don't just say it-picture it. To accelerate this, imagine a scene and attempt to control it. If it collapses, do it again.
4. Once you get to about 100 or so, you'll be
a. hallucinating
b. feeling a "wave of energy"
c. feeling as if your foot went to sleep, but across your entire body.
Any and all combinations will do. What these mean is that your mind is going "wtf we must have fallen asleep or something" and shutting down muscles, eventually entering a dream. If you are successful, you will find yourself in a dream, fully aware (or lucid) and able to control your dream.

I believe dreams become lucid, when you realize that you are dreaming. Before that, your dreams are like movies playing back and you have no control. If you figure out that what you are doing is impossible, then you will have complete control

The Commies count their quarters and the ArtSci wish they could, the Engs have the longest pole and slam it home for good, so big, so hard, so tall, it reaches all the way to heaven, so shut your hole, we climbed the pole, we're sci 1 ing 7!!!
Entering REM immediately also helps getting you into a lucid dream.
Last year, I had a 9:30-10:20 class separated by a 12:30 class. I went back to the dormitory and took a nap after my 9:30 class and immediately fell to sleep. Within minutes I was lucid dreaming. I woke up at 11:45, and it felt like an hour.
Lucid dreaming is an art, a way to interact with your unconscious mind, being free and in control of everything around you. You can live your fantasies by creating whole new worlds, objects and characters to satisfy yourself at will. It is a method of transferring real life experiences into the dream world, and living them again. Some might say that dreams are foggy, blurry, illogical, and don’t ‘feel’ very real. That’s because your mind isn’t fully in control when dreaming normally. Unlike normal dreams, lucid dreams are 100% controlled by you, driven by your emotions. Even your senses are enhanced by huge factors when you are lucid- the vision, for example, is extremely vivid compared to real life, and you could even have 360-degree vision.
How about learning and training for real life skills inside your dreams? Yes, that is totally possible. If you want to train for your next swimming championship in the Olympics, you can. It’s like muscle memory.
The possibilities are endless, and you're not bound by anything except your imagination and creativity.

At least that is were I learned most of the stuff.

Oh, and don't forget flying, summoning, and your sub.
Flying:
Really easy, I did it my first time. Jump up and fly, or imagine wings, or teleport. Any one will work.
Summoning:
Reach behind your back and imagine something there. When you pull your arm back, you'll have what you imagined. Pull dynamite or diamonds, whatever you want.
Sub:
Occasionally, your subconscious will take on a dream form in your LD. They can provide insight towards your life, as well as insight towards others. And NEVER ask what your worst fear is, unless asking for it to be said and not shown. Otherwise...
Have you ever seen the movie Inception? If you haven't, let me tell you that one of the main antagonists and the arch-villain of the protagonist was his own wife. She suicided because she thought that she was dreaming what was around her. She couldn't realise that it was the real world where she was into. So, she jumped out of a window in hope of waking up.
Lucid dreaming can be fun, but if you don't control it, it can be dangerous. At least that's my opinion.
Hm... this is one of those situations where I can't tell if someone's trolling or actually serious.
Well, I have HEARD (note: may not be true) of a case or two where something like this happened.
But more often that not, its just that some people get reality and imagination mixed up and get confused, which won't result in their deaths (thankfully). But it does get annoying when you think that you have met someone before but you actually don't, because you only met that person in a dream.

Lucid dreaming isn't much of a deal yet, but once it gets to become popular there are gonna be issues like that. I never said that lucid dreaming is a bad thing... we just need to control ourselves.

What's scary about it? Everything happens inside your own mind, it's not like if you dream of burning you actually wake up finding yourself in fires. Each thing is seprated from the other and it won't affect you except for good.

I hope you're joking. That doesn't happen, it's a movie, they aren't real, one can EASILY tell the difference, it's not dangerous at all, so I hope you realize that or you're just a troll.
Yes, it was a movie.
But think about that for a moment. You lucid dream. You have to believe that you're dreaming. Like what has been posted over the official site, you need to make frequent reality checks. I cannot see any reason for people not to believe that such things can happen. Alright, maybe not the Inception version. But you never know.
Though, I'm gonna give this a try.

Every dream I have is lucid, the only problem is preventing myself from waking up. I never tried this type of instructions, lucidly dreaming just comes naturally.
Also about it being dangerous, it isn't, it is easy to tell the difference. Just look at something with detail then look at it again. It almost always changes. Pinching yourself helps too.
It is when you get a sleep, but your unconcious wakes up. You can see and think, but cannot mobe because the body thinks it is asleep. During this you see the most horryfing things. You get haunted by your worst fears, ghosts, monsters, murderers. It is not fun as it seems. They look 100% realistic and cannot move.
Another thing, I'll leave some tips for lucid dreamers:
Don't look yourself at a mirror. It will create your true self image of your self, with 3 different outcomes. You'll look better, the same or worse than what you are (mostly this). And I mean really bad. Sometimes, the image of murderers/monsters behind you will appear.
Clocks and books don't work. Neither light switches.
If you're waking up, spin around or rub your hands.
Do not ask your subconcious to bring your worst fear. Don't ask.
You cannot die or feel pain.
Don't try to do ultra awesome stuff at first. Go slowly. If you start doing things like rollercoaster riding, you release adrenaline and will wake you up. Same thing happends when trying to get sexy dreams.
Try not to do overly complex mental stuff. It has more chances of waking you up.

hi
For some reason I cannot do that in my dreams. I've never had a dream of me pinching myself. So...

Dang it.
