Hai guys today we had to rush my dachshund(wiener dog) into the animals ER. He had a check up about a week ago because we noticed that he couldn't jump and he was dragging his back legs around, and in order to treat that the vet told us to give him pain killers and some other pill (don't remember what it was) until we could get him X-rays. Well, that didn't work because today he wasn't AT all using his back legs, and he couldn't stand up. When we got him into the ER we gave him X-rays and cat scans, the result was his spinal pad (the thing that keeps the spine bones from rubbing together) had faded, and it has been there for so long that it has started drying (that can take months/years at most). So they started surgery about 2 hours ago an hes out now, but hes on alot of heavy drugs so he wont feel the pain. Now we have to start rehabilitation so he can walk and use the backyard(dogs don't use restrooms lol) that is, if he will walk again.
If you have a dachshund that is limping or is having trouble jumping, bring him/her to the vet right away!
Also there is a 1 in 4 chance for all Dachshund to get this..
Hope he gets better. See you around the forums!

DACHSHUND! Now that that's out of the way. The dachshund is known for having issues with their spine and obviously this means their back legs can be an issue. I've seen the little guys try to jump up on a couch and break their back, it's pretty sad. If/when he does get better, make sure he has his own bed and doesn't jump up or down on to anything; if it's taller than his body (on all fours) then he should not be jumping on or off it.
I hope everything goes alright with your pooch. Dogs are so much better than other people.

My dog named peanut, who was a deformed cross breed between a jackrussel and a collie had the same problem about three years ago
I noticed that I couldn't find him around the farm, so I kicked his ball around because him and his sister, Apache would always play with it when they heard the sound of it bouncing, but only Apache came running out to play with it, I looked underneath the deck of my house and saw that he was lying on the ground, I called his named and he dragged himself across the ground with his front legs leaving his back legs on the ground. We took him to the vet instantly but we couldn't pay for the surgery he needed and had to put him down D;
Sad story, I'm sorry for your loss and I've been there before. ='(
