The main reason why "more kids" have allergy to peanuts is because in the old days, we didn't know it was allergy to peanuts. It's not necessarily because more kids actually get allergic, although with the rise of peanut popularity it's bound to happen that way too.

I wouldn't really call the 90's "the old days".
And also, what idiot would not realize they are allergic to peanuts when they eat peanut butter and then seconds after their face swells up?
Maybe because the usage of peanuts is a lot more prevalent now a days. It's not really that more people GET allergic it's probably more people that DISCOVER that they are allergic.

You must not have allergies, it's very difficult to tell what you are allergic to.
I know I'm allergic to animal hair, pollen, and that's pretty much it.
I have food allergies, I am allergic to corn and egg, and do you know how long it took to figure this out when you have environmental allergies as well? Not everything is cut and dry.

Allergies are caused by over exposure by the way.
It was easy, I bought a cat and suddenly... drippy nose, watering eyes, etc.
I figured it was my cat. I tested by moving it to a different house and removing most of the cat hair from the house and then I was fine, when it came back my allergies came back.

It may be easy for you because that is all you are allergic to. However, others have multiple things they are allergic to.
As a nice anecdotal example, from ages 12-15, I was allergic to any variety of yellow food dye. I would get a terrible headache whenever I ate anything with yellow food dye. Now, it's fine as long as I don't gorge on stuff with massive amounts of dye.
I would guess that more people are exposed to peanuts, therefore more people have found out that they are somewhat allergic to them.

It's most likely something that is inside the yellow food dye.

WE MUST DIG DEEPER.
Yes, it is likely that he didn't stop being allergic to it, maybe the chemicals they use to produce said dye have changed and that's why he isn't so allergic to it anymore.
I read a medical paper some years back on something like this. It basically said a few things seemed to contribute to this.
One was that the fear being instilled about Nuts and the overly hypochondriac mass hysteria mentality of many younger parents adding to that fear.
I believe the other was all the antibiotics being pumped into our meats, it is training our bodies to rely on antibiotics to supplement our immune system. Basically making the body's own defence less effective.
The moral of the story is, have a good diet if you can think for yourselves. If you have children, get them started on the right foods early.
That's probably it.
May the force be without you.

Funky, we all know that. We're just fantasizing the other possibilities.
