I'm sure that everyone's heard of the whole "respect your elders" deal. Personally, I agree with this, mainly because those who are older than I am have more experience in life.
However, I refuse to respect those who are older than me if they can't show respect for others themselves. You know, people that haul out the "respect your elders" card like it's their life motto, yet they treat people that are younger than them like absolute **** for no reason.
It's something that just pisses me off. Ever had this happen to you?
Only once.
I was working at a music event, and these two old ladies walked up.
It was clear they were drunk, since
1. They could barely stand, and
2. You could smell the fumes from 5 meters away.
They started hassaling these kids, so i went up to them and
asked if they would politely leave the premises.
The only reply i got was "Respect your elders!"
Then security showed up, walked them off premises, and they were never seen again.

Don't message me on either of these, unless you have a really good reason.
"Be nice to the folks older than yourself, after all, would you put up with know it all nonsense from young whippersnappers when you are old and grumpy yourself?"
Seriously, Respect is something you give, not take, regardless of age.
If you have to demand it, you are doing something wrong... :wink.gif:

Good point, but that's kind of what I'm getting at.
I give people the benefit of doubt before I judge them. Until proven that they don't deserve it, I hold them in the highest respect. When older people step up to you and demand that you respect them, even though they can't do the same, is what makes me angry.
If the elder in question went to war to fight for my country then I'd absolutely give them my full respect, even if they didn't do the same for me. On the other hand the other folks that go around demanding respect really annoy me. Sure you be nice to them in the street and show common courtesy like you would do with everyone else but to get respect from me you have to earn it, the elders are no different.
I respect my elders if my elders deserve it. I don't respect people just because they're old, and similarly I don't disrespect them just because they're young. I disrespect people on their own merits.

The youth should "respect" their elders. But there is a difference between respect and listen to, and respect is something that can easily overwritten by other facts. Respecting their age and the fact that they haven't ruinned their lives during that time is respectable. Respecting that they think that they are better than you due to the unchangable date of their birth is arrogance. No matter what, if someone can be respected by their actions it doesn't matter if their 9 or 90, you should respect them.

Let's all get along... or something optimistic like that.
Heh, my 50-year old uncle once told me that one of the few things the elderly had on the young was their wisdom. This was during a period in his life when he was trying to hook up with some Filipino chick he'd met online, mind you.
I would respect younger children more if they acted their age. Most people that I see on videogames who are below the age of 15 are immature and act like six year olds. Some are alright though. It's not even the high pitched voices that bother me, its just the irritating behavior in general.

Never STOPS happening to me...
Given. I don't blow up in people's faces when this happens, I just tend to brush it off.
Then I find the internet, and vent.
All of my old people never say that because everybody just treats them like normal people and they act like normal people.

Yeah, I totally agree with you. I try to respect others, but when they're REALLY stupid, I just rage at them.
