Guns don't bother me anywhere near as much as the people who think they're a good thing.
a swarm of masquitos couldn't bother me as much as you.
As far as guns being good/bad, they are neither. If no one was to ever touch a loaded gun it would sit like a rock in the lawn. Totally neutral, just being.
Personally though, i like guns. I keep several around (at home, not here), real and airsoft/paintball included. I use them all regularly.
My personal opinion is that if you don't have first hand experience with something you should try to keep an open mind and fairly neutral opinion on it. Most of the people i meet who are anti- anything don't know what they are talking about or have never actually used it.
I believe guns are a good things. Say someone is breaking in your house with a gun, and you only have a bat. What are you going to do without a gun? Charge them with the bat? You'll get shot. You won't have time to call the police, you need something to defend yourself with. Now if you had a gun in this scenario, you'd have no problem shooting the criminal. Most of you will probably say " Well if guns were illegal, this wouldn't happen ". But see, guns can be stolen. Also, If guns were illegal the army wouldn't have anything to use, and neither would you in a home break-in.
People who misuse guns are more likely to kill themselves than anyone else, so I don't care. I know gun safety rules and I go rifle shooting about 3-6 times a year.

don't get me wrong, im on your side... but...
please stop posting. Everyone has used that argument, and you managed to make it negate its self.
This - I cannot argue with, they were doing something they shouldn't. They were shooting people.
It happens more these days than it used to. It's not just guns, it's weapons in general. Years ago a few kids carried knives, now an awful lot more do, because they feel they have to, to have some protection. It's an arms race. Most adults I know would think twice about getting involved in any trouble with youths these days, because the chances of getting stabbed are pretty damned high. A moments loss of temper used to mean a bloody nose, not someone losing their life.
I do understand the enjoyment shooting can bring, though I only ever liked target shooting myself (even that wained with the more I thought about what guns were actually for). I can't understand shooting animals for fun at all. The self defence argument I understand, but really don't agree with, it contributes to making the world a more dangerous place in the hope that one can feel a bit safer. The criminal will usually ensure he is better armed than his victim.
I was a bit unfair in my first post, I shouldn't have disparaged those who like guns as I did, because I do actually understand a bit why they do. I still believe with all my heart that they have not truly contemplated the wider effects though. Once seen, they're hard to ignore or forget.
agreed, but i would like to point you towards the hammer, axe and fire. All three of these were used as weapons, and gained their popularity as such.Only later were they actually used as tools. Even the stick was used as a weapon first. It just takes time for something deadly to get a constructive use, in fact i would say that most human technology was driven by war. Now axes are used to save lives, hammers are used to build homes, sticks are used for sports and fire is used to make food and move you around. A lot of things were weapons before they were ever tools, even the computer you're using; the earliest electric computers were made and used to crack enemy codes.
now guns are used to save lives and build homes. (flair, nail guns) guns are also used in several sports, not only marksmanship but paintball and airsoft. Which, believe it or not, are good community building sports. You'd be surprised to see just how someone you shot square in the nipple would gladly shake your hand for a good game. (it's happened to me, he actually insisted) Of course he later shot my knuckle, which hurts like a *****.
Meh guns are like drugs. You can't stop people from getting them just by outlawing them. The only thing gun laws are limiting is the ability of law abiding citizens to fight back.
For a person 1 or 2 non-automatic small arms should be allowed. Professionals (police, rangers, soldiers) have a need of weapons as well, but useage is restricted to professional use. I disagree with people who have huge amounts of fully functioning automatic firearms.
TBH I have no problem with guns, Infact I love them!
I've only been able to used a single shot .22 rifle (only gun that is legal here but you need a gun licence (which you can only get if you live on a farm))
But I hate the saying "Guns don't kill people, People kill people" because say some children get their hands on a gun and accidentally kill someone with it. Pretty sure the kid didn't intend to kill them..

Then you should be glad that automatic weapons have been banned in canada for a long time.

small arms are the ones that cause trouble. you rarely hear about someone robbing a gas station with a hunting rifle. it's always a hand gun- same goes for the guys who accidentally shoot themselves.

Actually hunting rifles are used more than you think. Most crime guns are stolen, so logically, most crime guns are going to be designed for hunting as hunting weapons are probably the most prevalent in society.
Guns don't kill people but they make it easier for people to kill other people. therefore guns are bad.
Nonsense. Guns are inanimate objects. We'd be no better off without them than with them. It is only when men stop fighting that there will be peace, guns or not.
I believe that guns are bad, but when use safely can be alright.
The problem with American gun laws is that anyone can buy a gun, and then go killing someone (Though fortunately most people don't, but some do, for example the Columbine Massacre had School Students killing a lot of people, then killing themselves).
Simple way to (hopefully) minimise the amount of shootings:
1) Make people take a gun safety course and test.
2) Give people who pass the safety test a licence.
3) Make the licences have expiry dates so people will have to retake the tests every few years. (10 years maybe?)
4) Make some guns illegal.
5) Make it necessary for people selling guns to only sell to people with a licence.
6) Anyone found with a gun without a valid licence will have the gun removed and a fine.
This still has a few problems though, such as if people steal guns. It also cannot be implemented in the USA due to the Second Amendment.
No matter what the gun laws are there will always be people arguing that they are to strict or not strict enough.

I think I'm actually going shooting on Monday :happy.gif:

weapons=tools
As you are now, so once was I. As I am now, you will soon be. Prepare for death and follow me.

Yeah Yeah, but in general around the world I think the stipulations I made on firearms are very reasonable not just here in Canada.
