Now you're putting words in my mouth. When did I say that companies were corrupt or evil? I merely said that the goal of efficiency in preparing children for the workforce saps the life out of them. I made no judgement about that, I merely stated what it is.
Yes, doing well in school is important. Doing something you enjoy is also important. Yet, education as "preparing students for the workplace" is at the center of what most of academia today is calling the "death of the university" or the "crisis of education". This goal is self defeating, and eventually, will erode the education system fully. I would never support any action which furthers the disintegration of our education system, especially among the youth.
Simply put, education is a leisurely activity. It's heart is philosophy, its soul is art, and it's mind is math. Only its limbs are sports and trade skills which prepare one for a career. The limbs, without the heart, soul, and mind, are but a simple automaton. A zombie. A dead thing.
You might not have specifically said that companies are evil, but it was clearly implied with the way you talked about people working for someone else's profit at the expense of the environment. I suggest you reread that post.
About your comparison between education and leisure - if the soul is art and the mind is math, you had better go to school and do well to succeed. And back to the original point, shortening or removing summer break will help that.

Intelligence is not one and the same with knowledge.
I couldn't disagree more with the op.You said that over the summer brake we forget everything we learned.Well let me tell you that "that" is a good thing. The more stuff that we have in our head the greater the chance that we will go crazy. For that reason our physics teacher told us that after every lesson we go through and have a test, we should literally forget it and concentrate on the next one. Also before the summer break begun our math teacher told us something like:"Kids, whatever you do on the summer break, DON'T DO MATH. Rest a little and be prepared for the next year".
Also you seem to mistake the term "learning" with the term "studying". Learning is when you acquire new knowledge and skills for yourself and studying is when you learn mostly stupid and unneeded stuff for someone else, which is the thing we do when we are in school.90 % we study in school has no practical use for us and we won't need it at life ever. The other 10% which we learn, we need for our job and life because we are actually interested in it.The more stuff you know that you studied in school doesn't make you smarter and doesn't give you a better job like most people think. It's actually your will and determination to do and learn stuff you like.
On the end I'll quote Einstein: "The only thing that interferes with my learning is my education."
So maybe I got a little off topic in the end, but I think you understand my point.
Kids would go insane if they got rid of summer break. You never miss what you never had, but if kids know that there used to be summer break and there isn't anymore, they would flip a ****. And I think it provides a valuable opportunity to spend time with family and friends.
You're kidding, right?
Sure, students forget some stuff in summer break, but think about it..
If you make a person work for 7-8+ hours a day FOR EVERYDAY FOR 12 DAMN YEARS, don't you think he would just get overloaded halfway and just STOP paying attention?
Now after that, tell me, what's better - A student missing 2-3 months every year, or 5-7 years for the whole 12 years of his education?
Summer provides an extended break time for students, which they need to maintain a healthy brain to allow for easier learning when school starts back up.
Removing that entirely would provide problematic for students, because without a necessary time to just "breathe", you have students who essentially overload themselves and would have trouble otherwise to focus and learn.
Many of you are not understanding what I am suggesting. I am not saying that all breaks need to be removed. I am not saying that kids need to work 7-8 hours every day for 12 years. I am saying that Summer Break needs to be re-distributed throughout the year into more frequent, smaller breaks.
I can kind of see where some of you are saying that extended time in school will make kids insane, but I am confident that they could adjust. Perhaps there could just be a 4-day school week, and more frequent breaks, but not longer than a week or two. That would not be too hard to take.

then have no school 1 week
then school 2 weeks, etc.
it works pretty well.

People who say summer break is not needed.
