I can't choose because their both neatral because PS3 has Ratchet and Clank and other good series games and Xbox 360 has good shooter games but I have the Xbox 360 cause of my bro so I said fine since we have a PS2 and its pretty good and the next system I'm gonna get it unless Nintendo releases a new system before I buy it and the next system/handheld I'm going to get is the 3DS it's going to be awesome!! So anyway I'm neatral on the subject.
Ps3 will be cheaper in the long run, the ps3 has controllers with internal rechargeable batteries so you don't have to mess with getting new batteries or anything, you can use 3rd party add-ons this means that you can use any headset and get some nice recharging station that recharges all. Even if you are aren't using a wired connection you can solve that problem by moving your router close to your ps3. You also say that you aren't going to be playing online much so ps3 is good deal if you only go on once in a while so you don't waste your money. ps3 also has great single player games Uncharted 2 or even Uncharted one, they are both great games you can spend hours upon hours on these games i know i have. But in the end the main question is what do your friends have if they all have x-boxes get one if not get a ps3 hope this helps choose well.
Nobody realized that the bad graphics for the PS3 originated from BAD PORTS because the developers are too lazy to code it in PS3 and used a 360 -> PS3 optimizer instead?
I think what happens is that they make the PS3 emulate 360 games, so you get a huge loss in quality...
On the other hand, the graphics can reach it's peak if the developer makes PS3 Exclusives and takes advantage of the PS3's full power:
Note that the PS3 do get some good Third Person Shooters... It's just the FPS that gets lame because the big name developers who make FPS usually slack off when it comes to the PS3.
Uncharted 2 and Metal Gear Solid 4 are good examples of PS3 Third Person Shooters.
MAG is a pretty good FPS if you don't mind the weird controls but it works. Best played with a lot of friends, because it gets repetitive if you play it alone.
------
You should calculate the combined cost of features:
PS3 - Contains every core functionality
160GB Holiday Bundle = $299.99
Contains
* PlayStation 3 160GB console (non holiday bundle consists of this only, and at the same price)
* NHL 11 game
* Infamous game
Dual Shock Controller (Wireless, bluetooth, silver or black, rechargeable via usb) = $54.99
(Already has a wireless G adapter which is sufficient for gaming, and wireless N still isn't that comparable to broadband)
------
Xbox360 - Contains base functionality (original excludes wireless internet) (slim has wireless internet by default)
Kinect Bundle (Black, slim) (In Canada, ) $299.99
Contains
* 4GB memory (I think it's hard drive) ($199.99 Slim 4GB model by default)
* Wireless N and HDMI connectivity options
* The Kinect system and Kinect Adventures game
In terms of numbers of accessories, it might make Xbox 360 look nice, but it's a illusion, as the PS3 already covers most of them in a single console.
Now service related, I think in order to play games online, you need a Gold Membership for the 360.
Silver works for downloading games and buying games online, but you can't play online.
Of course, the 360 does have voice chat for players in different games, i think it's called Cross Game Voice chat or something.
The PSN doesn't cost you anything to use, unless you want to buy a Plus account, which is kind of like a premium on top of the free access. The games you buy that are *free* as a plus members can only be played within the subscription though. The discounted games don't do this so you can get a deal for discounting multiple games, but it's not that big of a deal to buy it without the premium.
PS3 does offer text and video chat, but it requires the eye camera or a headset, and you can create chatrooms for texting chatrooms in games, but can't use voice in those since it's stuck inside the video chat options... Voice chat in games works as usual, using bluetooth devices.
Think of the PS3 as a "All-in-one" with a powerful hardware. Then think of the 360 as the "Cheap and Quick Access".
Essentially:
PS3 = "Pay up now, and you don't have to pay for anything else unless it's an expansion or a accessory"
360 = "Pay now, and you get this # of things for this price, get the other stuff later (online function) when you feel like it (but it'll cost ya)"
I think Sony wants to impress people to buy it... And Microsoft basically uses their usual Business Mojo.
neither is specifically better, it depends which you like better. Personally, i prefer the ps3. My only regret is the controller not being as good for FPS games, which i play alot of.
I was going to say I prefer the ps3 of the two, but then you badmouthed the wii, and I lost a lot of respect for you. Im really tired of people always saying, oh nintendo has crap graphics, or that its for little kids. Nice prejudice. Nintendo markets to a larger crowd to make more money, so? Also the graphics thing is just stupid.
Just like there are games with good graphics for a system: (Wii)
There are also games with bad graphics on other systems (Xbox 360)
Edit: I also forgot that the graphics for the 3DS look amazing so far.
Im not bashing the other systems, I just find it completely unnecessary for people to just assume "Nintendo has crappy games with kiddy graphics"
/annoyed rant
More on topic: I prefer the PS3, LittleBig Planet looks really awesome by the way.
I've played on both consoles, and I personally prefer the PS3 because:
* It doubles as a blue-ray player, which would otherwise cost you another 200-300 bucks in the future.
* It has a few exclusive titles that I would really like to play, God of War comes to mind.
* I personally like it's controller better than that of the Xbox. This might be because I'm simply more used to the PS controller.
* PS3 internet is free, allowing you online play for no extra additional cost. IF you're looking to play shooters like Cod6, where the multiplayer is the main gig, then a PS3 will be much better on your wallet than an Xbox.
* You can connect a portable HD to your PS3, letting you access videos, pictures, other media and play it on whatever TV you have the PS3 set-up to. (I'm not sure if this is applicable to the Xbox. Never bothered to find out).

can do the same on the 360

Well, people pay for DVD's now. If you want blueray, you have to pay for a player first. Thanks for clarifying that last point I made. Also, the fact that you spend more time on the Xbox is purely because you have more friends on it. I spend more time on the PS, but that's because all my friends have PS3s.
I was going to say I prefer the ps3 of the two, but then you badmouthed the wii, and I lost a lot of respect for you. I personally don't like the Wii (and Nintendo) for multiple reasons:
1) The games on the wii that are meant for 'casual gamers' are plain crap to anyone who plays games a lot like I do. I get bored in 10 minutes, mainly because the difficulty curve is way to shallow and the experience of waving a stick in your hand gets old fast.
2) The games on the wii that are meant for hardcore gamers, stuff like Prince of Persia, more well known titles, etc. These games are definitely worse than their PS3/XboX relatives in terms of graphics (let's face it, the wii is weaker than the xbox or ps3), the gameplay (because they keep trying to implement the motion sensor, which is ridiculously hard to use properly), the controls (this is pure opinion. I just find the Wii remote + nunchuck extremely hard to use compared to an Xbox or PS controller).
3) Nintendo is selling remakes of old old games and doesn't care that we (by we I imply the people who played games before the wii came out) have already played them before. They're raking in tons of cash (the wii actually sold out once I think. They couldn't manufacture it fast enough), so they act indifferent to us.
So yeah, I really dislike the Wii compared to a PS3 or Xbox. Sure there are crappy games on the PS and Xbox consoles, but there are tons of good games too. I can list out 20 games on the spot that I would highly recommend to anyone. Even though I'm not a wii player, and I don't know it's game base, i doubt there are that many games that are just pure win.
the experience of waving a stick in your hand gets old fast.
I just had to take this out of context.
Anyway, I'm not a fan of "Micro$oft" as I've heard them called, and there weren't many games on my PS3 I wanted so I practically gave it away to a friend. Console gaming lost its appeal to me when I discovered Steam, I mean, TF2 going on sale for <5$, Portal given out free, other ridiculous deals (some games are going with 75% off right now!) and games given out free in a series of contests and giveaways. Not to mention how much cheaper everything is on steam because it's all software, with no shipping costs or anything like that.
lol, the wii has good games, yeah, some games are just legendary such as SSBB and mario kart wii, however it is just impossible to think of the wii as a personal gameplay console
the wii in my opinion is a party console, something you play when you have mates over, I mean even SSBB and mariokart end up to be party games
I am still keeping my wii and all, and I know that every console has its good and bad, but I just dont like to play party games when I feel like playing solo
this kind of debate will probably go on forever
but I am swaying towards the xbox and I do enjoy the halo series so meh
Yes, the wii is definitely a party console. Agree with you there. Also, @Alfa, I totally lolled :tongue.gif:.
Alright, to give you a bit more info to help you make your decision, here are a list of exclusives on BOTH consoles:
Xbox 360:
- Mass Effect 2 (If you're planning on playing this on a console and not the PC)
- Halo Series
- Fable Series
- Alan Wake
- Splinter Cell: Conviction
- Gears of War
- Forza 3
PS3:
- The God of War Series
- Heavy Rain
- Gran Tourismo 5
- Demon's Souls
- Final Fantasy XIV
- Metal Gear Solid 4
- Uncharted 2
- Killzone Series
- Little Big Planet
- Ratchet and Clank Series
Now, I realise that I've listed more PS3 than Xbox here. I've tried to be as even-handed as possible. The reason for the imbalance is purely because I've listed any game that I personally enjoy, or any game I think I would enjoy because I've either played a bit of it, or I've heard tons about it. Essentially, any game on the list is one I would spend tons of time playing.
If anyone finds anything they can add to the Xbox (or the PS3), please be my guest. =)

In my opinion, I think the PS3 is better, because of the better hardware, and great exclusives. Take Final Fantasy XIII for example. On the Xbox 360, the game comes with three discs; on the PS3, it comes with just one.
That way you only have to deal with PC fanboys.
I can't really imagine any platform without fanboys. Stand-up arcade machines maybe?
At least Nintendo releases more than first person shooters every month.
Red dead redemption
Just cause 2
Fallout 3
Fable 3
Grand Theft Auto 4
kinect

PS3 is 4 years old.
My PC is 1 year old.
Good try but PC wins.
Try play a decent game with a 5 year old graphics card.
Here are two more PS3 exclusives;

It's alot more fun to play with RL friends on consoles
than strangers, where it might be kind of awkward.
My opinion, by one of the two, and save up for the other, then you get the best of both worlds.
-More popular titles.
-Ergonomic controllers.
PS3
-Quieter.
-Free online play.
I could only afford one, and I got the 360 just because a lot of the games I like run on 360 only.
