So long story short, I was contacted by my bank earlier to day telling me that they have an opening for a young person to start a small business with help from the bank, basically how it works is I pitch them the idea, what plans I have and how I'll do it, they pick the appropriate funding for it and bang, there I go. I have all this planned out but I'm not sure if I want to take the leap into it.
The idea I have is to open a small computer store in my local area, it's an open market as there is next to no computer stores nearby, I have pretty adequate knowledge of computers, I also have a friend who is willing to help with the store.
I'm only 18 years old, I've been told I should go for it, as it could be the best decision of my life, I'm just not sure if the pros outweigh the cons in my case.
Cheers

Can you match my resolve? If so then you will succeed. - Monty Oum
You should go for it. Their will always be con's and pro to every decision you make in life. So, to help you out let's make one here.
Pro Cons = //
New Experience // It could fail
New Opportunities // Their are many uncertainties with out of the blue jobs offers.
Adventure of the unknown // You could be caught in a contract with a job that turns out you don't enjoy.
New Everything!
The bank will support you!
A friend will help you start it up
Who knows maybe you will become a millionaire?
So to conclude, I think you should go, it's always a good adventure to go into the unknown, sure their is some risk, but hey, it would not be adventure without it.
My ~3000-person hometown has a reputation for sinking businesses, to the point where a pet store owner deliberately set fire to his store in an attempt to claim insurance. The only niche store that lasted for more than six months was the tattoo parlour, and that's because they were a bunch of bikies who didn't pay rent.
Is there a demand for computers in the town?
Take a walk one afternoon and try to gauge the median age of a person in the town. If there's a significant proportion of elderly residents, that's a big potential hit to your patronage.
Do you have a decent potential supplier?
A computer store is not a store people would go to on a regular basis, and thus if people want good value for parts, they would be more willing to travel farther for a good deal (compared to everyday products like groceries). If you have good quality or value, you might even be able to snag customers from nearby towns.
Has someone else tried before you?
If a computer store has already failed in your town, it might be a sign.
Do you have a plan B?
What will you do if it fails? If you're not sure, you might want to build up something to fall back on, whether it's a secure future job or even just a decent sum of money.
If there is next to no computer stores in your town, and you will be one of the only ones, you should spring for it. If you provide better service and help for customers than the other computer store(s) in your town, you will have hit a home run. Business will boom.
