As most of you know Jeremy Clarkson of Top Gear got into a fight with an Irish crew member, Oisin Tymon. He then made a very racist insult against us (Irish). What I want to know is your opinion on the matter. Are you happy he is gone or did you think he was the best person on the BBC?
(Come on RTÉ. Now's your chance to make an Irish Top Gear :P)
As a certified Briton I can confirm that Jeremy Clarkson's sacking was only decided today. We've known about the incident for a while now, but it's only today that the BBC announced he was to be sacked. Before today the BBC were still going through the decision-making process.
Aside from that though my opinion on the matter: Jeremy Clarkson was certainly a much-loved presenter, but there was no way the BBC were going to keep him. He verbally and physically abused* another person, which is unacceptable in any workplace (except maybe martial arts? Dunno) and if they did keep him it would pretty much seem like saying "if you're famous and get us lots of money you can do whatever you want". His sacking is most likely going to cause a large fall in viewership of Top Gear if it isn't just cancelled outright, which is a major downside to all of this for the BBC. His co-presenters Hammond and May are also likely to leave the programme if not the BBC, which basically adds up to one big pile of meh†. So no one is winning here. Not Clarkson, not the BBC, not even Tymon°.
So really I don't necessarily disagree with the BBC's decision. Honestly I rather it had just never happened. It all seems a bit like a bad dream.
Top Gear is more than likely dead, May and Hammond refuse to record without Clarkson and I'd imagine if they were dedicated to the show, they'd simply move on to another company, I'm sure there's a MASSIVE line of studious wanting them on board considering the amount of popularity and money that they'd bring in.
Well, I've saved £150/y because I don't have to pay my TV Licence anymore.

Very good point indeed. Thank you Netflix, I can watch all 20 series of Top Gear on demand. (In Ireland the only way to watch Topgear is on Dave. Which is full of all the old <10 series.
What happened should have happened. He was a great host and Top Gear is bound to die without him, but he deserved to be fired. Many TV personalities have been fired for lesser offenses.
Also it's nowhere near the financial loss y'all think it is. BBC made over £5 billion in 2013/2014, making Top Gear's £150 million definitely not

You forget that most of the BBC's budget goes into Top Gear for all the stuff that they do.
Top Gear is the #1 most watched program in the word, it's gonna affect their ratings, sponsorships etc now that it's effectively gone.

Well that's not quite true. You can only watch season/series 17, 18, 19, and 20 on Netflix. It won't let you watch 1-16 or 21 and 22.
They certainly had to sack him because he assaulted a co-worker, but it's going to have terrible consequences for everyone involved. The show will either get cancelled entirely, or they'll have to find 3 completely new presenters (I doubt May and Hammond will stick around), and then nobody will watch it because they couldn't possibly be as entertaining. It's also going to hurt car culture, because it's a great way to get kids and even adults to turn into car culture lovers.

Yes I was a bit off. This is the actual list. In Ireland anyways.
I think that justice is served. If you hurt someone to the point where they need to be sent to the hospital over something so petty... well...Jeremy Clarkson kinda deserved being cut off by BBC.

Sire I inquire as I do with most, but do you mean to gloat? For is it truly such a tire to reply to the host with but a simple QUOTE?

BBC have hid things that they shouldn't have, I wont speak of it here due to the family friendly nature of the board. But I'm sure you've heard of the scandal that the BBC hid.

I've never watched Top Gear but yes.
All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost
The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost
From the ashes a fire shall be woken, A light from the shadows shall spring
Renewed shall be the blade that was broken, The crownless again shall be king
Why is this in this section anyways?...Nevermind.
You can just call me Canary.

Exactly, the show's also a huge cost to the BBC.

It seems James May has left the BBC too, as he's changed his twitter bio to a former BBC Presenter
Top Gear just won't be the same without him.
I know I'm gonna get backlash for this.

It should be noted that James May's Twitter profile now says "Former TV Presenter".
