- Not backwards compatible.
- Semi-always online requirement.
- Extra charge for used games.
- Windows 8 environment.
- Kinect required.
- Ads on main interface.
- No real focus on gaming.
No thank you. I think I'll just sit here on my PC, which doesn't have any of these drawbacks, and plays all the same games that'll be on the new system just fine... or actually...
To be honest, I'm not seeing anything about the Xbox One that I really like, instead I see a number of things that are off-putting. I know they're planning to announce some games at E3, but looking at the games currently confirmed for Xbox One I see only two exclusives... one of which I don't care about and the other could easily be replaced by, say, Grand Turismo. Unless Microsoft suddenly adds something amazing to the Xbox One, I'll probably wind up with a PS4 next generation and not an Xbox; which is a shame since I really enjoy Halo, but I'm not buying a system just to play one franchise.

"No real focus on gaming". Guys, they've already confirmed 15 new exclusives during the first year of the console! 15 exclusives! Wait until E3 before you ask where the games are.
Which was inevitable for both consoles. Like I said on the first page - being backwards compatible is not just a choice developers make. It is EXTREMELY difficult to keep supporting an old architecture, and the games that were built for it. This is why the PS3 was so expensive at first. It literally had an almost complete PS2 inside it.
To put it simply, the technological advances in between console generations are so large that it's financially impossible to try to revamp your old hardware. This is especially true with this generation. Being that both Sony and Microsoft have decided this time around to switch to more dev friendly architectures (the Cell in the PS3 was just dysfunctional, and both new consoles are running on x86 processors) you can expect much better quality at a much faster pace.
Bottom line, lack of reverse compatibility is absolutely not a valid cricticism to either the Xbox One or the PS4.
For the whole backwards compatibility thing since PC's use x86 cpu's can't they just port over pc games from the past few years to the new consoles? pop in your old disk and it gives you a download link, simple as that
Now what is Bill Gates thinking? Could of just left it as a gimmick or a rumor. Not my problem if Microsoft loses 3 billion dollars in their net worth. I mean, now people are just getting crazed about this and people are litteraly "pre-ordering" this for 1,800$. I'm serious. I'm happy with my 360, I'm happy with my COD:BOps 2, I'm happy with my Halo, I'm happy with my Bioshock Infinte and i'm happy if this was a joke.
Gates left Microsoft, get with the times, now Steve Ballmer is the CEO
WTF MICROSOFT? If you buy a console it's for exclusives and great games. If you want an all-in-one device you buy a fancy PC. Netflix for TV and movies. Steam and similar programs for gaming.
Wait. Hold on. Excuse me? Unacceptable. My Trittons are the best around... I shouldn't need another pair. That one benefit is absolutely useless if it's only in game chat.
Welp. I already had plans not to buy the system now I really won't. My Turtle Beaches work A-OK with my computer, don't see the need to spend another $100 when my headset works perfectly fine. And even if there is an adapter its probably going to cost upwards of $30-$40 USD.
I'm excited about the Xbox One. Yeah, they didn't show a lot off at the reveal, but who knows? Maybe they will save all of that for E3. (I hope they are!!!)
I just linked a vid with swears in it straight to an admin. I'm just amazing.
That can be surprisingly easy to do. I once linked an academic article not realizing that the author cursed several times in it. They pop up when you least suspect sometimes.

I suppose this means that the PS4 and Xbox One simply aren't valid competition for a PC, then.
I'm not looking at it from a technical perspective, I'm looking at it from a "What does the Xbox One do for me that I can't already do with the stuff I already have?" perspective. The Xbox One is trying to be an "all in one" multimedia center that hopes to take care of all my needs in one convenient box. If it wants to do this, it's going to have to be able to run the hundreds of dollars of games I have in my library in addition to the new stuff that comes out. If it can't do that, then how is it supposed to compete with my PC (and Steam)?
Ok so I am a bit dissapointed with the news that's been streaming out.
I'm really not sure what's actually happening. I mean, for the Always online stuff they're saying it won't always require a connection but it will have to be connected. So... what happens if we're not connected? I can understand not being able to watch live tv or play online but that really doesn't require any news? So will it actually require you to connect once a day? What happens if you don't?
As for the paying a fee for people to play a used game I can sort of understand that. I mean as long as the developers of the game get a piece of that fee and the fee isn't too much (say 10+ bucks) then it wouldn't be a major issue. But I frequently trade games and what not with friends so I can sort of demo a game before I actually purchase it. So would I have to purchase it to be able to play at all? That seems kinda bull and I don't wanna hang around with my friends to play on their consoles :l
I have so many more questions now than I did before this news.
I'm looking forward to their E3 in which I hope they get their act together and give us some real godang news
Edit:
Also, what happened to that Xbox Mini thing that was rumored to let you play 360 games on the Xbox One, is that still a thing, or will there just be 0 backwards compatibility period? Seems like too stupid of a move for a company to make honestly.
I remember the Xbox Mini thing being a separate console that Microsoft would develop and release that could be hooked up to your Microsoft account and then would basically be an Xbox 360 but cheaper and smaller... except without a disk drive.

- Lower stats than current PC technology.
Runs games better than the console will.
Right now I'm torn between Halo and Dust 514...
It's called the Xbox 1 because they took 359 steps backwards.
It's called the Xbox 1 because you take 1 look at it and walk away.
It's called the Xbox 1 because only 1 person is interested in it.
Oh God I'm a riot.
I like this one:
