What are your opinions on it? If you have it, how do you like it? If you want it, why? Etc, etc.... the usual discussion questions.
The reason I'm asking is because I'm looking into getting one, seeing as they're pretty cheap (relative to consoles) and more importantly, games seem to max out at about $40 dollars which is highly appealing to me. There are ~10 titles that are out/coming soon that I am really looking forward to, so the game collection looks promising on it as well.
My biggest issue comes in with the multiplayer. Normally, if I got a 3DS, the Wii U wouldn't be worth it since a lot of the titles are cross platform among these two. I'd jump straight to the 3DS, because of the obvious reason that game prices are cheaper.
Buuuut, I've heard that some games don't feature online multiplayer like they do on the Wii U. For example, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. This isn't a huge deal, as one of the few other people who I'd play the game with are my brothers, and it does feature LAN co-op. But my issue is whether or not this will happen with future games as well. Like Super Smash Bros... I'd love to play this game with many other friends and it'd be a shame if all I can do is local co-op. I have hope though, seeing as Mario Kart 7 has online play.
Overall, I think it's got more benefits than negatives, so I'll probably pick one up. However, I still am unsure about getting a Wii U, seeing as the 3DS will have similar titles on it.
Let's hear what you guys have to say about the 3DS.
3DS:
Get one. Just get one. You will not regret it. I've had one for a while (though mine is currently in California for repairs) but with the time I've had it I've loved it. It's a great system. Graphics are good in my opinion, but the game library is arguably the best out there right now. You have every DS game, DSi game, 3DS game, and retro titles from the 3DS' download shop (you can also buy many 3DS titles via download on the shop such as Luigi's Mansion 2).
The games are amazing. Every game I've played so far (Kid Icarus, Super Mario 3D land, etc.) I've at the least liked. http://kotaku.com/58...ames-on-the-3ds
Most games feature some sort of multiplayer in the form of StreetPass (exchange information which random people's 3ds when walking around in the city and stuff, (I believe you can also play multiplayer with these people with a few games but don't quote me on that)
Oh, and get the XL version of the console. It's by far superior and worth the extra money. (Feels better in your hand, better buttons and battery life, bigger screens, etc.)
One last thing to note: I assume you already know this, but this is more of a casual gamer's machine. It has classics like mario/etc. You're not going to get hardcore gaming/FPS's on this console. That one reason makes the 3DS unique from other consoles out now in my opinion and it's why I always love nintendo products no matter how less powerful they are than Xbox or Playstation.
-----------------------------
WiiU:
Don't get the WiiU yet. There just isn't enough of a library.
A successor to Super Mario Galaxy 2 was announced by Nintendo sometime I believe this year and will probably be shown during E3. It's supposed to be coming this fall.
Super Mario Galaxy 2 was the best game the Wii had by far, so if you liked that game I'd at least wait for the successor (which is made by the same devs as Mario Galaxy 2) to come out.
I'm sure a new Smash Bros and Animal Crossing (etc.) will end up on the WiiU too. In all honestly I'd either wait to see the Mario game (I'm a Mario fan) or wait for 2014 when we should be seeing more WiiU first party stuff. (Nintendo's first party stuff is always great.)

Yeah, it is looking very very good compared to everything else. I think, even if there was no online multiplayer, I'd still probably end up getting it because of the amazing game lineup and great prices.
Most games feature some sort of multiplayer in the form of StreetPass (exchange information which random people's 3ds when walking around in the city and stuff, (I believe you can also play multiplayer with these people with a few games but don't quote me on that)
Hmmm... I am confused on this, haha. So you just sort of exchange info with someone else's 3DS if you walk past him/her on the street?
Oh, and get the XL version of the console. It's by far superior and worth the extra money. (Feels better in your hand, better buttons and battery life, bigger screens, etc.)
Yeah, I've heard this. I intend on getting an XL but I won't complain in case I get a regular one, haha.
Couldn't agree more. I've got a PC for my "regular games," so the Playstation or Xbox doesn't really seem like anything worth getting. However, Nintendo games tend to be exclusives... and they tend to have a different, more "casual," vibe to them which makes me want them. I've gotta get my fix of Nintendo somehow
WiiU:
Don't get the WiiU yet. There just isn't enough of a library.

Yeah, if I ever end up getting a Wii U, I'd definitely wait until more good titles come out on it. The problem is, I still don't know if it's worth it if I've already got a 3DS. Since most (good) games are cross platform from Wii U to 3DS, I'd probably end up getting all of them for 3DS just on the basis of being cheaper. So I'm not sure if the purchase would be worth it.
I personally don't have a 3DS but I think if I had enough money lying around then I might buy one. PC covers more mainstream games. A 3DS would have the genres of games that don't show up on PC or PS3/360. If you're going to have a console as well as PC... 3DS would be the best choice. The genres that aren't on PC as well as portability.
There's no real reason MH3G doesn't have online play on the 3DS, as Monster Hunter 4 will have it. This is just a stupid move by Capcom, and plenty of 3DS games have online multiplayer.
I'm also curious as to what games you think are coming out for both 3DS and WiiU. MH3G is one, there's also Scribblenauts, and Smash Bros. is likely(but not confirmed to be) another. What else is there?

"StreetPass allows the handheld to communicate with other 3DS systems, alerting you if you pass another 3DS owner in the street. From there you can check out what games they've been playing, trade personalized avatars over the new Mii Plaza, and, of course, challenge them to a quick round of Street Fighter IV 3D Edition."
Oh, as a note: Luigi's Mansion 2 has four player multiplayer via random online people or people close by via streetpass (as an example).
Yeah, I've heard this. I intend on getting an XL but I won't complain in case I get a regular one, haha.
Don't get a normal 3DS. You will 100% regret your decision if you do. Don't do it.
XL is the superior machine and it's worth a wait if you're short on funds and need to wait for another paycheck.
And as I said, the WiiU will probably never be worth it unless you're a die-hard Mario fan like me.
Get it. I have the regular 3DS. Was a bit disappointed when they came out with the XL when I already had the regular, should of seen it coming, but oh well. Regular isn't bad. The reason why I have one is because I'm a big fan of anything Mario and of course Pokemon.
I have a 3ds. I have to say it is pretty good. Games such as kid icarus are very fun and last a long time gameplaywise (especially for completionists). If you get an XL the 3d graphics and the battery life enlarged makes it another five times better (this is opinion since I don't have one). The eshop content is good and I'm glad you can easily buy most retail 3ds games from the eshop without having to get any prepaid cards or anything (you can easily just pay the full amount straightaway with a credit card). So definitely buy the console. By the way, if you want a little more intense games buy resident evil and metal gear solid. I wouldn't recommend the console if you're more of an Xbox or Playstation fanboy, since it won't give the best experience seeing my friend's experience with the console.

8-bit Adventure got another update (June 17 2014)! Check it out from the picture below!
The 3DS is arguably one of the better Handhelds of this generation. It has decent, but colorful graphics, There are so many good games for it too. So many. Fire Emblem Awakening, Kid Icarus Uprising, Super Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7, Ocarina of Time 3D, RE: Resident Evil Revelations, Luigi's Mansion 2... Just to name a few. There are even expanded feature's that the 3DS improves from the DSi, like listening to music, StreetPass and SpotPass, listening to Music, Internet Browser(Although it still sucks). It has variety for every gamer with alot to offer. I personally have a 3DS XL Blue, and a Regular Model 3DS.

And, I suppose I worded it poorly. It's not necessarily that they will be "cross-platform" but rather the counterparts on the other consoles don't see worth it. It's not necessarily that they'll be "cross platform," rather that the Wii U counterpart wouldn't seem worth it if I ended up getting the 3DS versions.
Also, you mentioned MH4. Is there actually word of this coming in the future, or just speculation?

How come? I mean, I know the XL will be superior for obvious reasons, but I can't imagine the 3DS not being worth it just because it's not the XL version. I can't really reliably say I'll be getting an XL version, since I've opted out of buying one, and instead I'm just waiting for my birthday (which is coming up very soon) to get one. My parents are basically video-game-illiterate and if they were getting one they'd probably just go "This one's cheaper... let's get this instead!" so I am unsure. If I don't end up getting a 3DS for my birthday, I will definitely buy an XL, though.

Surprisingly enough, I'm one of the few people who wants a 3DS and doesn't want Pokemon, haha. But I am a huge fan of most Nintendo games so I expect good stuff out of it.

Just curious about Mario Kart 7... is it any good? To be completely honest, I didn't even know it existed until a week or two ago when I was wondering about a 3DS version of Mario Kart, so it didn't get very much advertising at all and I really haven't heard much about it. I can't really imagine them messing up too badly on a Mario Kart, so I have high expectations.. but I just find it strange that I've never heard a single thing about it until I started looking into 3DS games.

It's great. The multiplayer is great too, much better than Mario Kart Wii in my opinion. There's also communities, sort of like clans, that you can set up so you can race with your friends. I believe you can also race against others via StreetPass. Nintendo released a multiplayer exploit patch that fixed up some of the early exploits. One of the them was the Maka Wuhu exploit (look it up on YouTube). Was really annoying when others would perform that exploit all the time, glad they fixed it, though. There are still a couple of recently discovered exploits, but they're very hard to perform and not many people know about them.
It's awesome! It's upgraded hardware and 3D capabilities allow so much more options for Video Games to come! The graphics are great, EShop is awesome, and just, WOW!

Okay, I'm still uncertain about this whole "StreetPass" thing. From what I understand, you exchange info with other people who have a 3DS that are nearby, then you can play multiplayer with them. What if I don't take my 3DS out, or don't have anybody nearby that has one? Will I not be able to find online games, then? Or is that just one feature of StreetPass and it doesn't have an effect on "actual" online play?
Basically what I'm saying is... will I still be able to play, say, Mario Kart 7 online with people around the world even if I've never once "exchanged data with another nearby 3DS"?
Also, you mentioned MH4. Is there actually word of this coming in the future, or just speculation?
I could have sworn an English release was confirmed, but I guess I was mistaken; sorry if I got your hopes up. I was probably getting it mixed up with MH3U.
EDIT: 3DS has regular online, StreetPass is completely different. The general opinion about XL vs. regular seems to be that the XL is far better than the regular 3DS, although I've never actually played one myself.

If the game has online play, then StreetPass does not effect it at all.
And if your system is sleeping, it still exchanges data.
And in all honesty I just don't consider the original worth it when you can spend a small bit more and get a far superior version of it.
I got the Dsi around 2 years ago and I feel like the 3DS is in no way superior. Sure it's in 3D, but you get sick after about an hour playing in it, and does it honestly make the gameplay better?

...For one thing it has higher specs and therefore can run more complicated games such as Scribblenauts Unlimited.
