So supposedly the PS4 and Xbox 720 will be blocking used games. I, for one, want to know how that is possible AND who came up with the outrageous idea. It just seems like companies who do that would be cutting off their nose to spite their face... Used games help to bridge generations and to give players access to a wider variety of games, because let's face it... traditional retailers just don't offer the same flexibility and opportunity that stores like GameStop and Game Central do... Companies who do block used games are just being greedy. This move is going to make a lot of people mad!

It's possible with online verification, meaning you'd HAVE to be online to play a game. It's pure bull****, and alot less people would buy these consoles if they went on with this. I have a feeling the Ouya and Steambox would get a big go of it however. Anyhow, yes, this has many bad things connected to it, and I don't want to have to login to play an singleplayer game.
I totaly agree, I am not getting a new console if that's how its going to be. I am just sticking to PC/ and older consoles

Hello! Wanna play PC games with me? Add me on Steam! LittleBigPancake
It's still speculative, but yes, there may be a chance that Microsoft is so ignorant of its clients that it'll not only shoot its own foot, but perhaps blast itself from the knee down in an act of self destructive greed.
DRM part of the future everyone would profit more from it from MS and Sony too each publisher/developer for their respective game.
Xbox 360 users wouldn't really have much of a stance against it they have been paying extra for their games if they want to play online.
PS3 users may because it was all free.
Either way PC has been the testing ground for various types of DRM and the general user has accepted it either it be through steam or another form of it. The only thing that is stopping MS and Sony from continuing to do so is that how many people do not have access to the internet and would their consumer base significantly decrease due to people not having internet?
Well unfortunately this has been the trend with companies since the beginning of time. When they make money they want more by default. Also you could just force people to put in a certain code before they play a game which would register that game to that console and then block that code from being used on other consoles. I for one will be playing the Steam box. I hear Valve is going to release template versions to companies available for modification.
Well, is this happens, Gamestop's gonna pretty much become Nintendostop...
Pretty much. If I were Nintendo, I'd consider looking into purchasing Gamestop and rebranding it as the Nintendo Store (I think there's a few Nintendo stores already) and make a big retail push. That way they could make money off the original sale of the game and the resale (i.e. have the potential to double dip sell the same unit of a game).

This is going to push way more people (including me) to PC gaming. I don't see any advantage for them in doing this, the increased amount of money they earn seems like it would be heavily outweighed by the losses.

My name is Ozymandias, king of kings. Look upon my works, ye mighty, and despair.
If there were no discs like I heard, would this make console games the same price as PC games?
No disks is not the reason for the extra $10. The reason for the $10 is due to companies such as MS and Sony and even Nintendo selling their platforms at a loss and that $10 difference is used to make up that difference so they can make money overtime in some way it is to prevent yet another console crash that as already happened.
Plus digital even on PC games are not "cheaper" vs retail but its accepted.
As for this theory on used games, I'm not sure. However I am almost positive there will still be discs, at least throughout the 8th generation of console gaming. As was said, there are a large portion of console gamers without internet access. But technology becomes more economical at a very rapid rate. Think about how common it is for a household to contain a PC now, compared to 10 or 15 years ago. I am 100% sure that households utilizing internet will follow a similar trend. By the time the 9th generation comes around, I think the positives will outweigh the negatives for this idea. Who knows, they may eventually release special models of the next-gen consoles, containing no disc drive, which would be cheaper than the original, but require online capabilities to obtain media.

Oh. Thanks for that. Probably should've expected that.
It is stupid, but I don't expect all of the kiddos and bro-brah dudes to move to PC gaming because of it. Everyone will be hyped because it's the new Xbox or the new PlayStation.
Besides, you pretty much have to be online to play games on Steam. Yeah, you could go into offline mode, but you have to be signed in first to turn it on.
Blocking used games may be stupid but it won't stop them from selling the crap out of it and switching to PC, true. Besides PC gaming will still be so much more expensive then console gaming.

This makes absolutely no sense.
You hate the idea of consoles doing away with their game markets, which makes you want to switch to PC. You are aware that the PC is the culprit that started this trend, right? Today, there isn't a used game market for the PC when it comes to more recent games.
That being said, many people are satisfied with Steam. They don't mind that each game is attached to an account and can't be shared. If Sony and Microsoft are going to lock games to certain accounts, then hopefully they'll do it right. Steam is constantly on top of prices, lowering them as time goes on. They also have many sales that happen quite frequently. If Sony and Microsoft are going to follow in Steam's footsteps, hopefully they'll keep the prices of older games down as well.
I am curious as to what this means for people who don't have internet though.

Console gamers like you spout the whole "PC gaming is more expensive" nonsense, and then go spend 200 dollars on DLC for your console games, because literally nothing is free on consoles. Nothing! Oh, maybe you get an extra suit or something like that for free. But that's it.

Also, Kinect? Lol...

I used to play my Xbox360 a lot without internet. This could hurt their sales.
Click the dragon. You know you want too.

Because to them, you buying a used copy or borrowing a friend's copy is just as bad as pirating it.
