Let me explain. A while back I started playing tf2 without my moms permission. She generally disapproves of voilence at all. Now she has found out and I need to convince her it's not a bad or voilent game. Any suggestions?
Jk, what you need to show her are some articles from trusted sources. I would link some, but I am short on time.
Good luck, my inconvenienced friend! Message me your steam ID, if you wanna play sometime
Well, it is a violent game. Doesn't matter if it has cartoony graphics, it's still a mature-rated game. Blood, gibs flying everywhere, heads getting sliced off, etc. Not to mention some of the sprays I've seen.
There may be a way to turn blood and gore off, but you'd probably have to install some kind of mod or use some kind of console command.
dem pyro goggles. Though, I think you still need to dominate a pyro with them on.
And really, despite the gibs and dismemberment the amount of blood and gore in the game is relatively tame compare to others out in there. It's a fairly mild M-rated experience. Even Diablo 2 is gorier than it.
But I don't know if a mother would fall for that.
In any case, I think in the game's advanced setting you can turn off sprays if you want to avoid the odd pornographic spray (though, you could always join servers that have rules explicitly banning profane sprays). You can also go and alter the gore settings to "silly gibs". From Yahoo answers:
I assume you don't have the game, but have Steam?
In steam, all you do is go to the library, right click the game, and click its properities Then a box will come up, you click "edit game startup" Then you just add -sillygibs
The gore will be replaced with gears, boxes, and rubber ducks. Blood will be green if I remember right
That should fix the gore issue at least bringing it more down to more a "T rated" game.
Per amending the violence: I don't think there's much you can do there. It is a competitive shooter so shooting is a big part of it. I guess you could always just stick to Medic and make the claim of "I'm not part of it!" and see how that flies. But you can easily knock down the rating in terms of gore. Beyond that, you only have the Demo's drinking problem which is fixed by equipping anything that isn't the bottle (ie: pan).

You cant "Convince her it's not a bad or violent game"
Though it isn't a bad game, imo, it contains violence. Sooner or later she will find out, if you do decide to lie to her. All it takes is for her to google "Team Fortress 2".
Just ask her nicely, ask her if she has noticed any behaviour changes from you, since you've been playing it. (Only say this if there hasn't been, or if you've been extra good.)
This reminds me of a person I knew who thought Bohemian rhapsody was an evil song because it talked about murder.
Short story: Some people are dumbasses, and as a inevitable result some people have dumbasses as parents. The best you can hope for if you fall in that situation is that you don't inherit too many dumbass traits.
(I'm not saying the mother in this instance is being dumb or falls in that category, though)

Explain to her about that thing where you are smart enough to know the difference between what's right and whats wrong. But if your mom doesn't want you playing the game, then don't play it. She's still your mother, and it probably hurt her feelings when she found out that you disobeyed her.
Well, to be fair, your mother isn't wrong. It IS a violent game, no matter which way you look at it.
Though, she is also overreacting when there is far worse out there to be playing. TF2 is more of a cartoony animated game, filled of humor and gags. Nothing really too serious with violence or any true hatred warfare.
TF2 is a violent game.It reenfoces stratagey and it educational. The game is also rated T for teens so like 13+ i think and tell her you are chooseing not to play gta where u "fk" people in cars and you are choosing a highly stressful game to release your anger?
On top of that not many people talk on tf2 therfore there not many ignoarnt people screaming foul words=D hope this helps
Sorry, there's no way you could ever convince anyone that TF2 is not a violent game. Play something else.

Especially these days, now that things are more difficult than before and the world appears to be harsher than we once imagined it to be. We are all like islands, the philosopher said. Perhaps it's true. Yet I cannot help but remember an older saying, scratched on a cave wall somewhere by a long-forgotten prophet: in the end, the sea will claim everything."

My DeviantArt, so sexy
Oh wait, there were none! I played DooM at 2 years old.
OT: Convince your mom that a game like TF2 is not that bad of a game compared to other games.
Because swearing is cool and there's so much jelly blood and cold-stare Fiddy.

I'd just compare the game to others.

Team Fortress 2 is rated M for mature.

Pyro goggles won't do anything since you use guns , and that's a violent item.
