Could possibly be more fun if it didn't have so much grinding. The skill system is great, and the world to explore is just fine with nice quests. But the grinding needed to do anything, and the money consumed if you'd play it all, is too much.
There isnt anything wrong with grinding in games, the problem with runescape is its fundamentally flawed in that theres no reason to grind despite being a grind based game. With the exception of combat skills and meeting minimum skill levels for quests, theres zero reason to actually train. getting 99 woodcutting(for example) is useless because combat will net you far more money and you can simply buy logs from other people (who somehow find it fun....They probably just switch tabs now that i think about because most skills are pretty much "click on source" and sit there for 5 minutes), in addition the skill (last i checked) ENDED at 85 with magic trees, a mere fraction of the total exp required. Cooking food looses money and theres (last i recall) zero reason to level it up because a huge swarm of morons waste their money for a cape. Really, i think the only non combat skill that was worth leveling up was herb because it had untradable potions, but even those ended with overloads at 96, and up until that point you once again, had zero reason to level it because you lost a ton making the potions. Hell, smithing pretty much got phased out (despite being useless already because at level 99 you could make a mid/low tier armor dropped by most bosses) by that new minigame called dungeoneering, which pretty much ends with chaotics/ice dragons, which ever came first, i cant remember.
Played it from 2007-2010. Class my self as a little expert in it from them 3 years
I check it out now and then to see what they have added and to see if it works. Not the best game in the world but hey! For them 3 years I played it I enjoyed it with friends!
Poor thing... it's okay... it's over now. Come over in the good-game safe spot.
Oh my GOD!
YOU DIDN'T HAVE TO CHAAANGE IT AAALL!
NOW YOU'RE JUST SOME MMO I USED TO KNOOOW!!!!!!! (Reference)
Oh I am really unhappy... I mean it's not a truly bad change but I kind of enjoyed the way it worked for some reason. Maybe it will turn out pretty good. I just may be unreasonably skeptical.
As player who used to play both games, that's a great start. The Runescape combat system was pretty ridiculous, unbalanced and heavily reliant on luck.

I used to play both. I liked runescape more because it was more unique and not some WoW ripoff like every other MMO.

I'm a Java programmer, and I'm a terrible artist. Anything else, just ask me.

Ideally, they'd take the obviously more sophisticated combat system of WoW and combine it with their unique touch of Runescape combat.
The issue with Runescape's combat system is that for many many many levels you literally right click and watch your character attack, especially if you are melee. You have no control over what happens, besides eating, potions and prayer (which, to their credit are valuable assets to the game). While this is nice it isn't enough, the game is way too gear dependant and money driven. I understand that there is a degree of skill to Runescape, especially the intricacies of PvP, but by moving towards a typical MMO style combat system it becomes more skill based rather than gear based, and is overall a far more interactive experience for the end user.

WOW IS THE MOST UNBALANCED GAME I HAVE EVER PLAYED!
If you play a paladin you kick everyone's asses so hard their niebhors feel it!
Runescape was slighty unbalanced but it's because it worked on a combat triangle like very few games do so that gave it the feeling of being unbalanced.

How could they screw the combat up further?
I like the cheesy combat. It made the game unique and different from every other game.
PlanetSide 2 Megathread because why not?
They're going to make the combat a copy of WoW
