I have saved around $100 as of this moment and within the next 3-4 month, save around $250 dollars. I've been thinking about what I wanted to do with my money, and decided that I should get a PS3 since it's going for around $250 as of this current moment. To my knowledge, the current 160GB PS3 cannot play old PS1/PS2 games. Because of this, I have reconsidered if I should get a PS3 or not. So I made this list of the Pros/Cons of each gaming system below
Pros of a PS3 - New gaming system with updated graphics, a selection of newer and more recent games, Blu Ray compatibility, better online mode, a few good HD remakes.
Cons of a PS3 - Smaller selection of older games in comparison to the PS2, inability to play PS1+PS2 games, also I really am not too interested in Blu Ray, to be honest.
Pros of a PS2 - Ability to play PS1+PS2 games at any time, very large selection of well known/successful games, also, I do have a LOT of old PS1/PS2 games in my basement, but no system to play them.
Cons of a PS2 - Games are not the highest quality, cannot play new games, not a very good online mode, if any at all.
So I do have the money for a PS3, but then again I do have the equivalent for the other. So if I were to pick only one, disregarding money, which one should I get?
I'm sorry, did you think for a second you were contributing to this thread at all? Nope.
I have both the PS3 and PS2. They're both great, but the PS2 is more for SP and local co-op games, while the PS3 is more for competitive online play (in my experiences).
I actually bought an N64 recently because of all the memorable games on there, like Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Pokemon Stadium, ect, but it gets boring after a while playing by yourself.
TL;DR PS3 for more competitive play, PS2 for more SP/memorable/local co-op games.
I do have a Xbox 360. Although I do have one "new" console I want to be able to play all my nostalgic games.
EDIT: Also, I do have to take into account I do have a LOT of old PS2/PS1 games. I could give up having a newer system for being able to save lots of money on all of the classic games I have for the PS2
If you aren't looking for online, bluray and wireless controllers but for lots of games, dvd, and Backwards-Compatibility: ps2.
If you're looking for online that's free: PS3 without PSN+.
If you're looking for online that's not free: Either a ps3 with PSN+ or an xbox with gold.
Edit:
I own a 80 gig. Doesn't have any BC for ps2 games.
I would like to comment for the PSN+ because all that pretty much does is give you games online for less but when it expires you have to pay :/ and some 80 gigs do not play this look at this list http://www.tech-faq.com/can-you-play-ps2-games-on-ps3.html
I don't really think graphics are important. The PS2 has medium-good graphics.
I do find this the best approach. If we regard money, then that will mean that the $60 spent on a game will be rather expensive, when equal amounts of time will be invested in older games.
I'd take the ps2 in your case. Most games interesting also come out on the 360. But be carefull. Classic games can be more expensive if you don't have them yet.

Thanks a ton.

All PS3's, including my Slim model, can play PS1 games.
Only older ones, however, can play PS2 games.
...why not just get an older one off of eBay for cheap?
