The odds of them ever making, Half Life 2: Episode 3 is very unlikely now. It's been nearly 5 years, I think it would of been out by now, if they are still making it. Annoying that it ended on a cliff hanger.
As for another portal game, I think we will get a few more DLC's. But the odds of us ever getting another portal game is slim to non. They still have enough loose ends for the story of another game, but going through test chambers would feel old by then. You can't really have an open world portal game.
So i'm thinking that the games in the half life universe are done, sadly.
Valve mustn't have a lick of business knowledge if they're just gonna stop; Half Life and Portal make plenty of money for them, and stopping that would be like leaving a sports car out in the middle of nowhere.
What about Wheatley returning as an antagonist for HL3?
Yeah. It's not really related to the thread. But.
That would be amazing. But he would have to travel back in time. Portal 2 was in the far future. The Half life games are set in modern times. But wheatly would be a good choice of villian.
Some Valve guy was recently spotted with a HL3 shirt. I'm confident it'll be made.
Besides, it's just Valve Time. Think of how much time it took for them to make TF2...

Half Life is too serious for that. Plus if he returned, he wouldn't be an antagonist, since he's detached from the mainframe.

After a deep study of the games in another forum, it was discovered Portal 2 isn't hundreds of years in the future, but roughly close to HL2.
And Half Life games aren't exactly on modern times. The first was (kinda), but the second isn't.
Chell is for Portal what Freeman is for HL - the maincharacter and only "replacable" in addons, not in sequels.
Plus the escape is already fully covered in the comic.
Doug Rattmann never escaped in the comic. He was shot in the leg by a turret. He then crawled inside a relaxation vault. That puts you in suspended animation till you are woken up. He may have died in the vault, he may have escaped also, he may have been woken up by GLaDOS for testing or he may still be in the vault. We may never know.

Portal 2 spoilers:
He got to the moon somehow, as we see on his encoded message.

Thats also possible. GLaDOS said they could renew air, and all he had to do was shoot a portal to it to get there. So more evidence may be in many of his dens where pictures of his rooms.

Ah got to love Valve time.
Bat Solo.
Portal or Half Life game? And what would it be about?
Definitely another Half-Life game, maybe another portal(would have to be a prequel as I see it).
Half-Life game would be about Gordon Freeman, as always. What happens next.
My ideal game would be chell meets up with Gordon somehow.
Two mutes hanging out together? Sounds frustrating.
Will Valve still be around then?
