RuneScape is a fantasy massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) released in January 2001 by Andrew and Paul Gower, and developed and published by Jagex Games Studio. It is a graphical browser game implemented on the client-side in Java, and incorporates 3D rendering. The game has approximately 10 million active accounts, over 130 million registered accounts, and is recognised by the Guinness World Records as the world's most popular free MMORPG.
RuneScape takes place in the world of Gielinor, a medieval fantasy realm divided into different kingdoms, regions, and cities. Players can travel throughout Gielinor on foot, through use of magical teleportation spells and devices, and via numerous other methods, such as charter ships. Each region offers different types of monsters, resources, and quests to challenge players. The game's fictional universe has also been explored through a tie-in video game on its maker's other website, FunOrb, Armies of Gielinor, and a novel, Betrayal at Falador.
Players are represented in the game with customisable avatars. RuneScape does not follow a linear storyline; rather, players set their own goals and objectives. Players can choose to fight non-player character (NPC) monsters, complete quests, or increase their experience in the available skills. Players interact with each other through trading, chatting, or by participating in mini-games and activities, some of which are competitive or combative in nature, while others require cooperative or collaborative play.
The first public version of RuneScape was released on 4 January 2001 in beta form, and in December 2001, Jagex was formed to manage the game. As the game's popularity grew, the game engine was rewritten, and its beta was opened to paying players on 1 December 2003 under the name "RuneScape 2". It was renamed RuneScape upon its stable release on 29 March 2004.
This game started out as a very small game created by Jagex, and turned into a very popular game after some advertising and getting the word out.
You don't have to write a story about it, we all know what it is. It's a decent game in my opinion. Minecraft kicks it ass in a batlle, Runescape sucks so much compared to Minecraft.

RS is a mmorpg, Minecraft is a sandbox/building game.
What a poor argument.

The games both have multiplayer, no matter the amount of players. They are similar in a few ways, they are comparable.
Because people don't just like one kind of game, or atleast most. Personally I'll go for any type of game depending on how good it is. So if I can't compare games just because they have diferent types I won't be able to decide which one is better, which I should play.

That's why.
You can't compare two DIFFERENT things, because different thing serves DIFFERENT purpose. Do you compare a bus with a plane just becouse both of them are types of transport? No you don't - one of them is for short distance travelling and other is for long distance traveling. So if you like planes, will you travel to your workplace/school with a plane just because you like it and you think it's better?
To stay on topic, runescape is MMORPG. Minecraft is a sandbox. One is focused solely on people interacting with each other (role playing) with the whole game being built around that, while other is a whole different thing.
The only thing that I can think of that is possible to compare between every game is probably its code, how well a game is written. And, to be honest, in this case, runescape is MUCH MUCH better than minecraft.
Well personally I don't play minecraft singleplayer at all, only smp. Most of my time on mine craft is spent interacting with other people. So, if you play mine craft multiplayer on a good server, they are both morpgs.
A minecraft server will not have a massive amount of players, so it will be missing that first m, but I fail to see how the amount of players playing a game (after a certain point) affects what kind it is.
It's not like comparing a bus and a plane, it's like comparing a bus and a car - both valid ways of getting where you are going.
Hmm, that's true enough, minecraft is different from an rpg, but it has weapons, armor, mining, fishing, woodcutting, so some features are similar. I play mine craft in a similar way to how I would play an mmo, so to me they are comparable.
Does anyone still play Runescape? I gave this game up years ago. Looking back, it wasn't a very good game. There are plenty of other free to play MMO's that are way better.

Runescape is one of those games you either hate or love. I used to play A LOT. I started it way back in rs classic and loved it with all my hearth. It was sad to see how developers ruined everything that was good about it so I quit. I dislike the pvp system now, I hate new weapons. They keep adding more and more powerful weapons but they forget to balance it, it's ridiculous that you can take away 70% of your opponents life in one hit.
One time I went back and logged back into my old profile just to reminisce on all that time I'd spent questing as a child. Then I saw how crazy different everything was and said "wtf is all this crap". I then proceeded to logout in rage at what had happened to a game I played so much.

It's a shame, really. I thought it could have a nice future in RS Classic, but now..
I just don't know.
Funny, because Runescape players tried to compare Mabinogi with it...
Let me put it in this way:
THIS
Is not similar to THIS
Runescape is simple, Mabinogi is complex.
Runecape has players engage combat with characters, in "battle modes" where it happens AUTOMATICALLY.
Runescape is limited to a "skill system" where how your character is shape is based ONLY on the skills.
Mabinogi has players fight in REAL TIME, with skills making a big dent in HOW YOU FIGHT.
Mabinogi has Attribute and Skills, along with a plethora of many other stuff that aids the development of your character (Equipment type, enchants, upgrades, etc.)
Sure, I guess RS players can be blunt and "state similiarity to the looks or GUI" because they can be blind to the blocky graphics of Mabinogi that they can't see the smaller details (that or they relied too much on youtube videos so the quality messes it up).

When a developer takes it too far, they basically killed the game in the name of profiteering (even if they do tell you otherwise, they always need to profit to develop it further).
This is what I hate about this game industry, when a good developer gets too much power, it may corrupt and screw the game's series. That and there's too many loopholes and corruption in game industry where the high-ups are at... When heaps of money are thrown around, no one is around to judge who threw it, and the reason why.

EVERYONE IS EITHER A TOTAL DOUCHE, COMPLETELY SILENT, A TRADESPAMMER OR SIX YEARS OLD.
Any arguments to that? I like debates.

Indeed. Minecraft ftw.
