I am exited to share with you some gameplay of the game I am making : Skywanderers.
It is a construction-exploration game like Minecraft, but set in space with a sci-fi theme. You can build spaceships and explore the proceduraly generated galaxy !
Right now the game is in pre-alpha, I am focusing on the building mecanics and have started on the procedural generation on the world. So it is only creative, but the plan is to add survival mode !
Edit : the game is now on Steam Greenlight, check out the post here
Some screenshots :
You can see some building in action - the building logic is very similar to minecraft, except that you can hold right click to rotate the block on itself.
There is also lots of differents systems, and you can link them with a logic mecanism (like "wifi" redstone :steve_eyeroll:)
You can also check the holomap where you plan your warp and navigation point, and some spaceship fly action.
If you would like to see some footage of gameplay check youtube video I made (sorry for my strrrong frrrench accent ! :steve_sillyface:)
I really hope you like it ! If you have suggestion, of if you are a talented builder and would like to test dont hesitate to answer !
Very cool. As I mentioned on one of the video comments, I hope you allow FOV adjustment when you release it. The docking system is a pretty cool idea. When do you think you'll have a demo for public release?

Thanks ! Yes I plan to add this as a setting. Right now in Unity it is at 60, so yes it is low... Next month I should have something for people interested in to test, hopefully !
The aesthetics look quite nice, especially the components which give the ship interior an authentic look. It's certainly a game to keep an eye on. The thing I wonder about, however, is what will your game do to differentiate itself from a relatively crowded field of current and upcoming space builders?
tsunamayo_333 If I may ask what languages are you using in order to create this other than the fact that it's being done within Unity? Also would I be able to test it out?

Thanks for your answer, you raised a very valid question. I do not look too much to other games as I have a very precise idea of what I want to accomplish, but when I do I always note the following points :
Art style : a lot of game out there seems to want something realistic. While it might please a certain type of players, I do not think realistic graphic goes well with the blockiness aspect inherent to the genre. I find the pixel art of minecraft a lot more enjoyable, so this is what I want to achieve !
Building logic. I did not tried the other games, but it seems that the building aspect is complicated to some extent. There is several control keys, it looks to me more like an edit mode of some kind of 3d software, not a physical and enjoyable experience like minecraft. In Skywanderers there is only one touch used, I really want to nail the building sensation (it is like the shooting sensation in a FPS, or the driving sensation in a racing game). Same goes for the voxel terrain : yes it is smooth, but when you mine it it look messy, I much prefer minecraft blocky terrain ! (by the way I also use the same smooth "marching cube technology" but for LOD level, not main level)
The galaxy : I am a huge space fan, having a real galaxy to explore is really important for me. Each star in the sky is actually a real star that you can warp to. The scale of the world is also real (in the second vid I travel 40 000 km, just to get to the ring). So no baby planet or small world. You can travel to huge speed also !
Building philosophy : I want to player to build everything ! So there is not "cockpit block", you have to do it yourself ! Same goes for turrets, doors, ect. I will do a video shortly to show this in more detail.
More to come : I will do other video on other features that should differentiate even more !
tsunamayo_333 If I may ask what languages are you using in order to create this other than the fact that it's being done within Unity? Also would I be able to test it out?
Hello ! I am using c# with Unity. Yes I will contact you if your are motivated to test (this is pre-alpha, so expect something not yet polished !). Are you an experienced Minecraft builder ? I need skilled people to build nice looking spaceship, I kinda suck at my game actually.
Looking forward to testing your game since I'm someone who truly enjoys playing Minecraft. Other than that I don't really consider myself as a fantastic builder, yet I believe I can be able to inspire a look for a spaceship or help you out in building one together if you would be willing to create one by yourself.
Hello guys, check out the new gameplay video on brick based construction ! I really want to hear you opinion on this as it is an important aspect of the game. Basically it is like small block that use a stud logic like lego to be build. It allows the player to create smaller design, like command panel, customized sea, turret and all you can think of.

I guess I'll be playing Starmade until THIS comes out. I hope the planets generated are going to be large and populate with flora and fauna (also randomly generated).
The stud building system is a brilliant idea and solves an issue Space Engineers has (i.e. can't combine small and large blocks in that game, so to get a sizeable ship with a finely detailed interior one has to build a ship with a ton of small blocks which hurts performance).
I realize at this point the Skywanderers dev is mostly focused getting the game up and running, but after seeing the turret rotors I'm really hoping it will have other complex parts, such as pistons/sensors/timers/slides/etc.

Thanks for your feedback ! Actually the brick/stud technology is different from voxel, it is not simply smaller voxel. Which means you are not restricted to a grid or a specific size, so there is a lot of freedom for the player. I will add more brick of various shape, I am inspired by seing people doing different use a block in minecraft (like a plate and a fence to do a table for example), so I sure player will come up with nice usage of this techno.
I did not showed it yet but this smaller bricks allows you to build weapons that you can equip, and I plan to allow the creation of drone and droids.
For the complex parts, I have delay timers and other logic bricks (my next vid will be on this I think), and also sliding bricks : actually all the doors are made with a sliding brick (there is no door brick). For sensor this is definitely something to add, I will try to do it for the demo on logical system.
Cheers
I made a new video on control panels and logical system, like the redstone of minecraft. Check it out if you are interested in the game ! I would love some feedback if you guy have a lot of experience in redstone.
If your are curious on the technology used I made a devlog video on this. It is pretty cool, the approach is different that from Elite Dangerous or Space Engine - all the interstellar dust are real volumetric data, no sprite is used. Now it is a bit low-res but I will make some improvement on that. Being a space nerd I want to give the player the opportunity to explore an immersive galaxy ! I will add more deep space stuff soon, like black-hole, nebulae, globular clusters and so on !
Hey guys, I have been pretty hyped by rogue one so I give a shot at recreating the imperial shuttle featured in the film. Doing a replica is quite different than doing something purely out of imagination, but it actually pushes you to be more creative in the building technique used, I learned a lot and it was good fun !
Anyway the shuttle in action :
I made a review if you want to see more :
Also if any one of you is a redstone expert and would like to be help me to test and design the logical component I will be glad to hear from you !
As much as I would love to contribute to bug testing, I am going to be completely honest and just say I would love a copy of the game to own for life because this looks fantastic and I'd like to play it and spread the word about development as it comes along. Looks neat af though for real

I really adore the graphics and its simplicity. I wish you good luck

Y'know? I bought Minecraft because I thought it was a war game where you had to create tactically placed proximity explosive devices...
