Having the damndest time finding it, which is surprising it because I recall one such scene being used by people who argue that GRRM is a bad writer (typically the argument revolves around him writing about stuff that isn't pretty).
In the fifth book (whoms chapters I wouldn't link because they would spoil some major developments, and they would tell you who lives that long which is a spoiler for a series like that within itself) there is an entire plot point revolving around the fact that one side of a conflict has came down with dysentery.

Hi hi, welcome back to life you old relic.
Ok more of a preferential rant, really, but this will be my first contribution to this place:
Personalities.
One main thing to remember about people, and by extension, characters(unless your RP is set in a dystopian era ala Equilibrium that everyone is supposed to feel the same) is that they're not cardboard cutouts. Each and every person is unique in their own right and it usually shows through their personality. Presuming y'all are still in school, you can take a look around and tell differences between your classmates.
There are these serious, studious types that tend to forsake much social interaction in favor of acquiring more knowledge.
There are the haughty know-it-alls that take too much pride in the things they know and do and look down the bridge of their nose on others.
There are too the bubbly types that are full of energy and have the warmest smiles that rope you along into silly activities.
Honestly, the sheer difference between people make hardly any two alike at all in any manner.
So don't play that "cold and uncaring but quickly warms up to people" card all the time, because there are many other ways to play a character than that.

DON'T BE THAT GUY
Look, I've been around for two or three years now. And before that I was technically roleplaying (on a well below casual level, mind) in school, on Club Penguin, and even on Moshi Monsters when that was popular. I've managed to go from what can barely be considered to a to a lazy intermediate. And probably the one thing I haven't seen anybody talk about here is the big DO NOT BE THE GUY WHO DOES THESE THINGS.
Powerplaying- Yes, right off the bat. It's a really simple thing to grasp, but a lot of people seem to still be power playing, regardless. Power playing is when you control somebody else's character without their express permission. This includes NPC's. One common example is 'And everybody gasps as they me do ------' And normally that's okay. It adds to your post and displays a bit of quality. But people always assume one or two reactions to every situation. Maybe what your doing is actually quit common, so everybody is used to it. Or maybe it's just a different situation. Powerplaying is a huge problem, and it generally just starts arguments.
Instant Developments- Instant character developments don't work. It breaks everything. You don't just work out for five minutes and instantly become super buff. You don't instantly go 'OH EM GEE I LUV U I'MA MARRY YOU IN ABOUT TWELVE POSTS!' It just doesn't work. Character development is slow and built up, and that's the way it should be.
I will totally add to this when it is not 1 in the morning.
That seems to do more with GM's failing to enforce their own rules. I don't think "Don't Powerplay" should be plastered everywhere. Especially not in a tutorial, where the space could be used for better advice. The General RP Chat already states what Powerplaying is, and that it's bad. Roleplays run by competent GM's list it as a 'Don't'. It doesn't need to be said anywhere else. And if it's not listed as a rule in an RP, when it happens, there is no one to blame but the GM.
Like I said, the space could be used for something better, that isn't already listed as a 'Don't' elsewhere.

My DeviantArt, so sexy
Anyone who has any sort of Japanese character or anything needs to get on this and PM me a link.
I almost did, when Lugia perceived my character as making an ice sculpture of himself and licking it.
You know who you are...
My DeviantArt, so sexy
I always managed to post at the end of a page.
I'm guilty of a few of these. Especially when it comes to RP posts.
Oh, and I'm back. Because you obviously couldn't tell. Obviously.

Same. I couldn't tell. Its a GHOST!
I'll grab my magical AK. If I learned anything from Oblivion, I need silver-core rounds.
Anyways, I think everyone on this forum has committed at least one of those writing sins at least a couple times. God knows I have, sheesh.
The value of this thread is too important to just shut it down.

hnng.
I will fix this later.
Sometimes I wonder if it's all too easy.
Lying, cheating, stealing your way to victory.
Though just how far would you fall for a dream?
