I'm not sure the UN would go to such lengths. They're mentioned as being oppressive but I don't think they're on the level of North Korea. And I don't think they'd go so far for a single person who doesn't even seem that important to the project overall. And I don't think they'd risk him trying to get some vengeance by sabotaging the ship or something.
I don't know, the story just seems really off and unlikely. And you don't really give us a reason for why he's so valuable to the UN.
Agreed. The UN has so much on its plate I can't imagine it has the time to micromanage and mess with individuals to this extent. Even so, such brutality seems out of line. The UN's being oppressive because it has its hands full running the world and has to rule with an iron fist - not because its fun - fun to do bad things.
The simplest fix to your application would be to replace the United Nations with the mob/cartels/loan sharks/etc. This sort of brutality seems more in line with criminals of that grain anyway. Otherwise, it's good by me.
Name: Alice, designation Administration and Mediation Assistance Android Mark 6.3(AMAA Mk 6.3)-1643
Occupation: A lifelike android designed to provide administrative and diplomatic assistance on military, corporate, and federal assignments. “She” can be addressed either by her casual name, Alice, or with her official designation of AMAA-1643 or AMAA Mk6.3-1643. Although she specializes in diplomacy, management, and administration, Alice is also skilled in numerous other professions such as applied and theoretical sciences, tactics, and applied sciences, she is not as skilled in such professions as those who specialize in such fields. She is trained in basic forms of combat, though only to such an extent that she can defend herself in minor situations.
Bio: Alice was created for the purpose of administration on the Olympus’s mission, in the event of a break in the chain of command. Her construction finished in the year 2172, immediately followed by her programming and special training for the (hopefully) oncoming of the mission to Invictus. Although her construction was based on the AMAA Mk. 6.0 class of androids, her design itself was drastically different in that she was designed to be self-powered for extended periods of time, using built-in piezoelectric generators and photovoltaic collectors. Despite this, though, she cannot overexert herself without requiring recharge time. Her appearance was designed specifically to make people feel comfortable around her while maintaining an aura of respect. Additionally, she was given the unusual feature of her being programmed to be able to utilize multiple personalities and mental profiles to better adapt to diplomacy or mediation with various people, though she almost always maintains the same experience and barely wears anything but her standard UN jumpsuit.
Partly due to the fact that she was designed to behave in a friendly manner, Alice is somewhat notorious for being overtly flirtatious and sometimes even sexual towards and around her inferiors and amongst civilians, despite her normally tomboyish manner of acting. She still is not incredibly forceful, and will easily back off when asked except in the event that doing so would override her primary assignment – to ensure that order remains on Invictus. She will almost constantly be trying to help others and sometimes appears to become almost excessively involved in the affairs of others, which see will always see out to the very end. She has not yet been activated since being placed on the Olympus, although most any military officer should be able to activate her relatively easily.
Since the breakup of the Olympus, she remains one of the most advanced pieces of technology that survived the breakup of the colony ship, and it is yet unknown what the true extent of the damage she received truly is.

Could just be their way of getting rid of a troublesome person. But I don't imagine a physicist could do much to piss off the mob. So unless you get really creative, you'll probably have to make a different kind of character. Maybe some guy who got involved with the mob and whatnot in order to take care of his family. The current conditions on Earth are really bad and its overpopulated, so working to "put food on the table" might be more literal in some people's cases. So you could have a character who grew up less fortunate like that, and had to do some shady stuff to survive and support his family.
You could say he pissed off the mob off somehow. Betrayed them, or simply threatened their power somehow so they forced him to disappear. Or maybe your dude was or was believed to be a snitch, so to save his own life he signed up for the Olympus. Or the UN made him a deal for information.
You know what, nevermind... I think i managed to get into another RP on another forum, so i dont think ill have time for both... dont want to start and then have to stop abruptly!
My thinking was more something like this: desperate to fill quotas, the UN pays people under the fence to "Convince" others to join. This isn't targeted, they are just like "Yeh, here is 50 grand if you come up with a person willing to join." They don't ask questions, they don't investigate. This fits more in with what an actual dystopian government does; whatever is the easiest for them, regardless of what effect it has on their people
So you have mobs bullying people to join. They probably make that quota through people coming short on sharked loans and similar small deal things like that. Guy won't pay up, you kidnap him, hood him, and hand him over to the UN. People know he disappeared but they don't know where, so they retain the frightened into submission effect, and they get payed a decent sum as a bonus.
Using this model, it makes more sense for situations like hammers to occur. Extreme, but plausible.
As an alternative, there's always the willing choice where someone is looking to escape from a sharked loan. Or is looking to get he and some stolen goods as far from whoever he stole it from as possible. And that can only mean going forty light-years away to Invictus.
There's also scenario if you want to play someone with a tat of Elisa Minnelli.
Most colonists landed in an abandoned colony named 'Landfall'. Other aircraft carrying colonists were destroyed. Some got lost.
The area surrounding Landfall has basically turned into a refugee camp. A city of tents basically. All was well at first but as time has passed, things have begun to get a little shaky. The colonists aren't happy and crimes are happening. Leadership is split between competing military officers. Invisible alien predators have attacked the wall and people have died (though only people working on the wall witnessed it, the rest of the camp might be pooping their pants at the reports but are safe for now).
Basically, things are becoming gradually worse as people become more and more discontent with the military rule and the fact that resources are dwindling and can't be replaced very easily. People are fighting and whatnot.
Aaron's character is out doing his own thing leading a group of survivors from his dropship, that crashed away from the colony.
Also the captain survived and is with some British dude and a Russian on the northern half of the planet doing something. Homsy somehow survived plunging into the sea from orbital altitudes with only a mildly damaged vacsuit and radiation sickness.
But I ain't gonna question him cause it's crazy swag yo.
Chapa's also five miles from Landfall in the desert.
Meanwhile, Len leads a group of some thirty individuals wandering the opposite side of the planet since they were thrown off course in the chaotic tumble from the Olympus. Some of their drop ship died in the crash, including the pilots. A hangar technicians survived but his suit's visor got damaged and he basically has no face, and is now wrapped in bandages as they figure out where they are in relation to everything.
