The Unknown Lore II - Fantasy Roleplay
In a world where fantasy is no dream or story. Fertile lands, deserts and even ice islands form an area habiting several races. Races familiar to us all: humans and your average animals as well as what we all call fantasy creatures. It used to be a peaceful place, though for some reason people fear something is going to happen sooner or later.
Magic is also no tale, it is reality in this realm. Though not many people speak about it, seeing that not many have mastered the art of magic. Nevertheless there are some mages that have been well known, but some also have been rumored to be liars.
"The Unknown Lore II - Fantasy Roleplay" is set in the later medieval era and fantasy realm. You can be anyone from humans to any fantasy creature (or also animals) to ants or anything you can imagine (of course you will need to describe your race if you invent your own one). Events will be made by the players as well as by me. Major events are my duty, only someone who suggested one (via PMing me and discussing it with me) also has the privilege for that one suggested event. If the suggestion was accepted (when that is the case then I'll notify everyone) then the player who suggested it is in charge of the event (I also prefer that).
The difference between major and normal events is the impact on the lore. Like a whole town/city/village blow up is a major event (and one that won't occur without a good reason) while a minor event is 2 or 3 houses exploding or an undead scout troup. If you are uncertain if your planned event is big or not, ask in OOC or as a PM (to keep the event a surprise and when it is a major event it can be discussed).
Next to that players can also 'request'/'ask for' new points of interests. As an example you want to have your own town, you can suggest its location (via the grid-system) and add that into the application (If there is a plot to a location and want it to be revealed while roleplaying, PM me to discuss it).
The Rules
Since no roleplay survives without rules, let's continue with the rule-section.
1) My word is the final, what I say counts (and moderators). However, some things are arguable.
2) No metagaming, powergaming nor any other No-Do in roleplays.
3) All posts must be kept PG-13. Swearing is okay, but censor it properly.
4) Please use normal English and decent grammar. Mistakes are tolerated though, as you can see with me.
5) Everyone is allowed two character only, unless I am asked in a PM and I clearly state the player may have another one.
6) If you are interested in joining please understand this:
-) This is no server. If you think this is one, then please check in what forum section you are currently browsing.
-) Have fun!
7) On occasion I will update/add content to the original post.
8) Creating NPCs for quests or for interaction is permitted, but don't create ten NPCs when you only need three.
9) Do not create any overpowered characters, over time they may become better.
10) Respect everyone at all times.
Notes
-) Notes aren't rules, they are only for information.
-) If you have any suggestions to improve this roleplay, please send me a PM or suggest it in OOC.
-) Please do not hesitate to send me a PM or ask in OOC questions.
-) Example applications are also accepted applications, if needed for inspiration and structure.
Thanks to Milan for helping me create this map!
The Island with Vindobona is called Sol, the small islands around it have no name (yet). They are very fertile land.
On the right top corner there is a mysterious island made out of ice and snow. How comes it didn't melt away is unknown.
And on the right lower corner there is a desert island. It is told that it was once a fertile land but was then cursed and thus is a desert island now.
Around A2-Y1/20-22 - Vindobona
Vindobona is the capital of the Island Sol. Its location not only gives it a strategic point for seafaring, but also makes it a sight for every person. It is said that there are wild sea animals on the coast of Vindobona.
Now to the character application for this roleplay
Name: <What is your character called?>
Race: <What creature is your character?>
Gender: <Who doesn't know what this means?>
Age: <Earth years AND not too young characters (18 or older).>
Personality: <Who are 'you'?>
Flaws: <Bad characteristic of your character.>
Biography: <Try to have atleast one paragraph. In some years you sure have something to tell.>
Appearance: <What does your character look like? Pictures are allowed.>
Starting Location: <Doesn't have to be precise, but it helps.>
Notes/Suggestions: <Who knows, maybe you want to add something or suggest something.>
Name:
Tynebris
Race:
Dragon of the Shadow (basically looks like a normal dragon)
Gender:
Male
Age:
20
Personality: Tynebris is a rather young dragon, atleast for his species. Although he is young he rarely shows any trait of playfullness, though it is rumored that he was sometimes spotted being playful. While Tynebris doesn't seem too playful he does seem to have obtained a huge knowledge. However, Tynebris isn't very talkactive, or atleast no one caught him talk much.
Unlike his extinct species (Dragons of the Shadow, not shadow dragon) he is very calm. Due to him being raised in a more human-like way he barely has any experience in fighting and prefers just observing people dispute or fight.
Flaws: Goes to the extreme when he wants something. Lacks proper communication skills and easily misunderstands others.
Biography: Tynebris' parents got killed while they were defending the soon to hatch dragon. Fortunately for Tynebris the raiders didn't take him with, they only came for the scales of his parents. Thus the dragon never hatched, until he was taken into hospitality by some miners who stumbled into the former lair. Tynebris did hatch some days after being in an incubator.
As Tynebris hatched it was point midnight, a 'birthmark' of his species, though no one was there to attend his hatching. The dragon didn't go exploring, it stayed in the building. In the morning one of the few wizards checked on the egg, now the dragon. The wizard casted a spell so that the dragon can't escape from the building if it wants to. Tynebris tried to attack, though was trapped in a forcefield. The same wizard was put in duty to feed the dragon.
Years passed and Tynebris grew quite a bit, proud 5 meters. The forcefield expanded to the house, giving the dragon a bit more space to walk around in. As there were no signs of Tynebris' aggression anymore they let him live freely in the outskirt of Vindobona. Even though the dragon was nor living freely in the outskirts he never entered a house and never really went exploring outside of Vindobona.
Over the years Tynebris didn't grow much, but with the age of 20 he reached 7 meters from his snout to his tail tip. With his size people started to tolerate him less and less. Though the dragon wasn't seen that often in the outskirts anymore. Tynebris found his way to his lair, or better said his parents' lair. Nevertheless, the dragon visits Vindobona from time to time, mostly after hunting. Because he rests in Vindobona he was once attacked by a citizen. Tynebris didn't just fly away, he actually killed the citizen after Tynebris's right eye was slashed at. Luckily he closed his eye fast enough, but now has a scar on his scales on his right eye.
Name: Sirius Race: Human (assassin) Gender: Male Age: 29 Personality: Sirius is loyal to his friends and family and will protect them at all costs. During his contracts he always considers every option and isn't afraid to get in a fight. He is athletic and can run fast, climb buildings and trees and jump from building to building. Unlike the rest of his family, Sirius makes sure his victims suffer as little pain as they need to. Biography: Sirius' family is a group of assassins. His family accepts contracts from anyone who is willing to pay a sufficient amount of money. He was taught at a young age how to use a bow and a dagger by his father and brothers. When he became old enough, he accepted his first contract. This contract was to eliminate another assassin. He succeeded but most of his family were killed in an ambush. Only he and his brother escaped with their lives. They decided that someone had tipped off the other assassin, causing the death of his family. With their parents and other siblings gone, Sirius and his brother (Raiko) went into hiding. Appearance: Dark brown hair, white skin, wears hunter clothes to make the bow on his back and dagger look less suspicious Starting Location: I'll wait for more apps then decide where to start. Notes/Suggestions: Raiko is an NPC I will be taking control of.
Name: Raven
Race: Elven (Hunter)
Gender: Female
Age: 18
Personality: She is very sweet but since a group of mages murdered her family at the age of 10 she hasn't been able to trust people very quickly.
Flaws: She is unable to trust people quickly even when she needs to. Often when she kills things she feels incredibly guilty as well. She thinks that she is able to do everything by herself and is overprotective of the small jewel decorating her dress which can be taken off.
Biography:She has a pet bird called Nightclaw who is the only thing she trusts other than herself, she usually travels the islands looking for things to do and errands to run. She was taught how to handle a bow and arrow at the age of 7 and has been practicing with fake birds and squirrels that her dad has thrown ever since. When her dad died she practiced on trees and actually hunted real animals when she was hungry. She always keeps her bow with her but quite often forgets her arrows, she is quite forgetful, and she almost always can't afford to buy the materials or the actual arrow. She has a special gift with animals, she can't contact them with words or thoughts, she just likes them and trusts then. She will not kill unless necessary (e.g. Starving to death, someone attacks her) The small green jewel on her dress can be taken off, and she will not let anyone have this because her mother gave it to her just before she died, it is the only memory she has of her family besides her bow.
Appearance:
Starting location: Vindabonda to find some errands to run.
Notes: Nightclaw looks like this:
Race: dwarf (smith/retired knight) Gender: Male Age: 44 Personality: an angry little man who can some times be evil even villain. but at the end of the day he's a caring man that just wants his home back. Flaws: can get out of control at times. can and will break friendships to get what he wants. Biography: Wilson was once a great knight in a far away land. the people there were happy and freedom with a powerful army. they saved many lands and free many people until the day the king died and his son toke the throne. he sent his knight to the 4 corns of the earth to find a weapon that could control the minds of others. sadly the knights found these weapon and were about to bring it to there king but before they could Wilson killed the other knights and destroyed the weapon. For these crime Wilson was sent to a icy island to die and never return. Starting Location: ice islands (m1,32) Notes/Suggestions: only to add more to the map.
With an unrelenting and ruthless gaze on his dark-brown eyes that mostly seems to be merged with the pupil's colour, merging and losing in the blackness the pupil and the iris. With an accidentally hairstyle combed backwards, the colour of gray and silver alongside the slightly admixed black hair, two impetuous and thick sideburns oozing downwards, involuntarily aged by the time and the lack of melanin, forming a chin curtain whose charmer style is completed by a less bulky short boxed hair. To maintain the merciless aspect that he exhales, his nose is grand in the correct quantity - and so are his brows.
Amusingly, his typical apparel is of robes that mostly resembles to kimono. Said appearance still reminds of remembrances of this mantle even if it is of the darkest black colour and the decorative, rank stripe that runs diagonally in the edge of the clothes is made of pure black leather. Two horizontal beams projects to the height of his arms, halfway to the shoulders. A true evil man's dressing style.
Personality:
Mercantile and relentless, although of his grim exhalation he is scrupulous with his works and is not as vile as he seems to be. Snobbish and supercilious, he senses to have superior ability towards others and once his pride is hurt it takes long whiles for him to accept it. As the time passes, however, things slowly fades away from his memory.
City of Thusak, contrasts between affluence and poverty. Vasiliy was born on the known merchant burgh and learnt to bargain while he was still small. He lived in the farther regions from the downtown, on the minimal island whose solemn biome was a forest. His father was carpenter and lived on building new houses or inns or whatever woodwork available for him whilst his mother was, well, he wasn't quite proud of her profession for the rumours that were scattered from mouth to mouth. She was an enchantress and commonly was using her magic to convince bourgeois to assist her. Soon enough, they had enough fortune to maintain themselves for a long time without the requirement of work. Vasiliy then was able to go to the only school of the continent, located on Saramth Desert - a fluvial training camp on the edge of the river.
He was taught by the best swordsmen in the region (they should be because the monthly payments were absurdly high) and soon revealed to be very experienced on the arts of mastering bladed weapons. On the elite group of the military camp, he was sent to hunt creatures alongside the other pupils whose skills were apparently excellent as well, until the time he completed five years on knight training and graduated. His final mission to prove his worth was simple, achieve the summit of the Quarton Ridges (3 Z-2 to 3 S-2) and return with the head of the regional dragon. A stupid deed, assuming the dragon wasn't causing problems to any of them. Together with his other battlemasters pals, he went on his journey.
The desert crossing was effortless because they lacked on monsters to fight and the camels sent for them were quite speedy. Attaining to find the Tribe Tehdamto, 4 Q-1, they used one watercraft to sail to the Dragon's Islands, where was by far most densely populated by hostile creatures. The quantity of attacks were enormous compared to what they faced earlier and two of the five warriors succumbed to the assaults. The other three managed to raid and scratch a couple of resources to climb Quantor Mountain One, where supposedly a mage could aid them to find the dragon's lair. This one, however, wasn't amicable at all and their visit was merely an insult at his eyes. One of the three sacrificed himself to battle with him while the others managed to continue moving through the frigid mountain paths.
The dragon nest was beyond Vasiliy's infertile imagination. He and Thorruk, his companion, located the dragon. The draconian was taking a catsnap, the perfect moment to ambush him. Their first step, however, was surely enough to awake the large beast; this one wasn't satisfied of being awaken by other foolish heroes and battled with them as if it was an unsleeping monster. Thorruk severely wounded the monster on cost of his life, and before Vasiliy could attempt to use the finishing blow, he got unarmed by the creature. Readied to confront the death, it happened that a hypothetically dead man - Charlot - who was left to endure a battle with the magician survived and used his spells to ultimately slay the creature. Its dead seemed to echo through the mind of several creatures in the vicinities for abruptly a battalion of hostiles stormed the cave. Using the spellcaster's book, Charlot succeeded on teleporting Vasiliy away. When this woke up, he discovered he was the last one alive.
While trying to rest on an inn's rented room, voices from below were conversing about a monstrous invasion of several different creatures on Thusak, imminently slaughtering anything on their path and claiming that island theirs. Vasiliy discovered the hard truth his family was gone. There were quite few rumours about an invasion of burqa men assaulting countless desert camps, and eventually he understood he had nothing at all. The only good notice these men accidentally informed he was there were quite few men in Sol's capital, Vindobona, willing to pay high amounts of money to whoever that achieved to return them one of the forest drakon's fangs, the most frightful beasts that humanity had the unpleasing on facing.
Reluctantly, he accepted the mission nobody had given him and literally crossed the continent seeking that city. He took many rides from pirate's vessels until finding one that was actually aiming to dock on that region - the Saint Agnes's Passion, a passion fruit exporter ship - and made the decision to see if anyone else was willing to help him defeat that beast. If he didn't manage to defeat a solemn dragon, what would be of him against a drakon? Scattering several posters among the town, he hoped that someone actually attended on being his companion - something obviously impossible.
Appearance: dirty skeleton in brown rags with two books (journal/phylactery and Osteomancy book). His left forearm is currently a sword.
Personality: Caring, Staightforward, Simplistic, but he is asocial due to his newly discovered appearance.
Flaws: Flimsy structure, frightening appearance, and untrained (both in combat and magic)
Bio: Edmund was once a simple peasant, no battle experience, he was a victim to a necromantic cult who was trying an experimental necromantic art known as osteomancy which is the manipulation of bone. The art required that the bone must be bound to a soul and not just some skeleton. So they forced him to become a lich so he may not die in the process. They bound him to a blank book which they could burn had he defied them. They were foolish as Edmund had escaped his bonds and killed them using a sword made from the bone of his own forearm. He went into shock lasting three and a half centuries, he awoke recently in a long forgotten cave, finding his flesh completely removed from his body. The blank book that binds him to this world became his journal.
((So it turns out not that much editing was needed. Go figure.))
Name: Kaugri Valituir
Race: Werewolf (Hunter/rogue)
Gender: Male
Age: 18
Personality: He’s adventurous and full of energy, which can often get him into trouble when he’s not paying attention. He’s generally friendly, but is hostile when something seems off. He also tries not to become very good friends with people so that he won't get backstabbed. He enjoys going crazy in his wolf form when the moon is full.
Flaws: Since he enjoys going crazy when the moon is full, he often goes on (at least attempted) murderous rampages. Be it the slaughter of unsuspectin civilians in a town or the obliteration of any animal he sees, Kaugri in his wolf form is very dangerous. He occasionally experiences episodes of psychosis, increasing how dangerous he is. His wolf form currently has a bounty posted due to killing a child in public during the last full moon.
Biography: Kaugri was born as the child of two werewolves in a pack. The pack had a motto: “a lone wolf is a dead wolf”. This meant the members of the pack should work as a group and look out for each other rather than focusing on themselves. The pack was efficient, and most of what they did worked out for them. Eventually, Kaugri’s father got greedy, killed the pack leader for the bounty on his head and left to start a life in human civilization. The pack’s trust in each other was shattered, and they split apart. His trust in his parents shattered, Kaugri separated from his mother, not wanting what happened to the pack’s leader to happen to him. Now alone, Kaugri decided it would be best for him to prove his pack’s old motto wrong.
Appearance: Stands around 6 feet tall with white hair (fur in wolf form) and yellow eyes. His clothes are the mismatched hides and pelts of animals he’s hunted stitched together into articles of clothing. He usually goes barefoot.
Starting Location: Y1/20 (Vindobona)
Notes/Suggestions: Kaugri is very fast, and is skilled with small weapons like knives, which he carries two of. POI suggestion: old werewolf den; former home of Kaugri's pack, inhabited by a new pack currently (J2/25)

Biography: Sirius' family is a group of assassins. His family accepts contracts from anyone who is willing to pay a sufficient amount of money. I could change the age if you want. Im just trying to make her look a bit more innocent to get the character a bit better. Just give me a minimum age if you want me to change it?
Wilson ready's him self for icy death he opens his eyes for the last time to look in to the sky but these is not the sky of his land the island must of moved some how. He looks around to sees that he is near land and begins to build a raft.
(( Locations can also be requested by the players, but requesting one location after the other is too much at once. The same counts for events. ))
Tynebris wakes up in his cave, high in the mountain near Vindobona. Silence in the cave, no noise but the breathing from the now wake dragon, so silent it is in Tynebris' lair. The black dragon gets up and stretches his massive wings, they almost touch the cave walls. Tynebris heads towards the exit and lifts off, heading to the outskirt of Vindobona. As per usual, first hunt for little food in the outskirts and then hunt in the 'territory'.

Alktham, Shadow lurker of the third veil of blood and soulsmale, from ages now forgotten
Race: Shadow Lurkers Bio: Born in the Dead-Shallowing swamps, the description may have some differences from village to village and town to town, or even empire to empire: Generally described to children as a boogeyman, he is an humanoid that seeks for defenseless citiziens or native poeple in the forests, to fill his belly. Last of his kind, carries some importance: His mission is to survive the longest period of time he could ever do, and make the world remember of Alktham's kin, the Shadow Lurkers. He Inspires fear in even the bravest heros, and is the cause of nightmare on many children. Currently lives in the forests near to Vindobona and eats normally fish from the river of the little village. Lurks at the night, every week, looking for fear to fuel his powers.
Age: Adult, scientifically approximable number: 24, biologically.
Starting Location: Ice mountains, (m1, 30) Personality: Seeks nothing, but eternity. If there's apocalypse, he will try the best to stop it. But if there's power to seek, he will seek it, no matter what's in the way. CHAOTIC NEUTRAL karma, basically. Flaws: Can't fight in the day, and is only strong/can touch the enemy if the it has fear.

Hail at thou, reader. I reckon I might have to ask companions to grub through the uncharted lands that surround this region seeking a mythical beast, expecting the rewards of countless gold! If thou art interested, thou shalt attend to Ye Olde Sthamaen pub at eleven o' clock as the sun disappeared (11pm), on three days succeeding this date. This date is day eleven of the eleventh month, June's Birthday. I wait for thine response, for I know these people is valiant and has honour, and so thou art.

Arguments happen, they just do, you can't stop it, no matter how much power you have, even if it takes years to settle, when it does, everyone is stronger for it. Rivalries can be made into friendships if you let them.
Some ideas are meant to be made into reality, but most need to be burned at the stake.
Hating the things you love

((I'm taking a different approach to my characters story. Instead of starting off the way I did in the last RP, my character (and Raiko) will be hiding in Vindobona.))
Sirius walked through the streets of Vindobona with a hood covering his face. The hood served two purposes; to protect his eyes from the hot sun and to also cover his face. He couldn't risk being noticed in a city like this. There were too many people and he didn't know how many, if any, were looking for him and his brother.
Sirius had been careful and had changed his appearance to make him less noticeable. His usually long-ish, dirty dark brown hair had been cut short and cleaned. He had cut a light scar onto his right cheek and put in earrings. Even with these changes in his appearance, Sirius still carried his dagger on him incase of attack.
As he past a shopkeeper selling fish and other items, Sirius' attention was drawn to a poster that was hanging on a wall. The handwriting was quite bad but Sirius still managed to read it:
Hail at thou, reader. I reckon I might have to ask companions to grub through the uncharted lands that surround this region seeking a mythical beast, expecting the rewards of countless gold! If thou art interested, thou shalt attend to Ye Olde Sthamaen pub at eleven o' clock as the sun disappeared (11pm), on three days succeeding this date. This date is day eleven of the eleventh month, June's Birthday. I wait for thine response, for I know these people is valiant and has honour, and so thou art.
Sirius thought for a moment. If I were to get that money, then Raiko and I would have enough to build our own house somewhere outside Vindobona and wouldn't have to be as careful when going outside. He then tore down the poster, making sure not to rip it, and began walking back to his house to tell Raiko his plan.
((Nephener, can you make the meeting at the pub be tonight (RP time)? Because I don't have anything else to RP until that meeting.))

Vindobona is the capital of the Island Sol. Its location not only gives it a strategic point for seafaring, but also makes it a sight for every person. It is said that there are wild sea animals on the coast of Vindobona.
Now to the character application for this roleplay
Tynebris

Silence & Logic
Race: Human (assassin)
Gender: Male
Age: 29
Personality: Sirius is loyal to his friends and family and will protect them at all costs. During his contracts he always considers every option and isn't afraid to get in a fight. He is athletic and can run fast, climb buildings and trees and jump from building to building. Unlike the rest of his family, Sirius makes sure his victims suffer as little pain as they need to.
Flaws: A bit cocky, not a big fan of dragons, can be aggressive, hard to gain his trust.
Appearance: Dark brown hair, white skin, wears hunter clothes to make the bow on his back and dagger look less suspicious
Starting Location: Vindobona

Tynebris wakes up in his cave, high in the mountain near Vindobona. Silence in the cave, no noise but the breathing from the now wake dragon, so silent it is in Tynebris' lair. The black dragon gets up and stretches his massive wings, they almost touch the cave walls. Tynebris heads towards the exit and lifts off, heading to the outskirt of Vindobona. As per usual, first hunt for little food in the outskirts and then hunt in the 'territory'.
