Make it Hawk. It's their unique signature mail sending pets.
Also, it's still climbing up the ranks. Maybe a few paces below Dragon, which is the least of the 13 most powerful, mostly because I'd like a few stepping stones before I start stepping on toes looking for its former leader.

Sometimes I wonder if it's all too easy.
Lying, cheating, stealing your way to victory.
Though just how far would you fall for a dream?
1. Jezebel, House Dove. Led by Cadence Jezebel, this house controls Marcheim, and therefore has the largest army in the lands at their disposal. The well-trained, massive army is what made Marcheim the capital originally, and House Dove has made sure to maintain its size and discipline.
2. Marcs, House Snake. Led by Damian Marcs, this house's notoriety stems from its wealth, which is shrouded in mystery and the subject of many rumors in Azberth, where Marcs is the duke. The people believe he controls much of the Sovereign Lands' drug trade, but nobody complains since it keeps their taxes low.
3. Lazarus, House Lion. Led by Elena Lazarus, this house is descended from a long line of proficient magic users. However, as the duchess of Shroudhelm, Lazarus is ill-prepared and has a lot to learn. The city has been in a constant state of disarray with seemingly no end to the madness.
4. Glasgow, House Owl. Led by Nicholas Glasgow, Easten's legendary agriculture is put to good use by this house, maintaining a balance of fair taxes and happiness of the people. Most of the Sovereign Lands' spices, herbs, and raw food comes from Easten's many farms and plantations.
5. Louvre, House Badger. Led by Armando Louvre, this house is almost the exact opposite of Glasgow's. They care not for the people's happiness or wellbeing, as long as they continue to make money and live their luxurious lifestyle. Because of this, they have a great amount of thieves and assassins at their disposal.
6. Bouchard, House Crow. Led by Sara Bouchard, they are a retainer to House Dove in Marcheim. Much controversy surrounds this house after the sudden and unexpected death of Patrick Bouchard, leaving his house seat and all his riches to his young wife Sara. They have a near-absolute monopoly on the tea trade in all the lands, and their expensive teas have made the family very rich.
7. Tharin, House Wolf. Led by Jacob Tharin, this house is a retainer to House Lion but maintains contact with all the houses. Their social correspondence and connections have made this house many powerful friends, and virtually no enemies. They are usually the ones to communicate messages between the many houses.
8. de Ford, House Ox. Led by Orin de Ford, this retainer to House Dove is well-known for its smithing roots, and forging the finest armor in all the lands. They work with House Bear often to provide arms and armor to merchants everywhere, who in turn sell them to armies and warriors. The two families are very close, and run the Blacksmith's Guild, which almost all good blacksmiths join.
9. Talbot, House Stag. Led by Clifton Talbot, they are a retainer to House Owl, and play a large part in the spice and medicinal herb trades. While influentially they are one of the more minor houses, they are among the wealthiest in the lands for their spice empire. They also work with House Bouchard often, as their spices and herbs are commonly incorporated into the teas.
10. Reynold, House Bear. Led by Walther Reynold, this house is a retainer to House Owl, and forges the finest weapons in all the lands, from traditional longswords to exotic scimitars and notched arrows. They often work with House Ox on smithing techniques, and sell their high-quality products to merchants and warriors all throughout the lands.
11. Dumont, House Stallion. Led by Ulric Dumont, the house is a retainer to House Snake in Azberth. True to their name, they breed the finest steeds in the lands, from powerful warhorses to light and quick racehorses. While their horses are fantastically suited for their jobs, they are also quite expensive. Therefore, people tend to prefer cheaper, lower-quality steeds, making this house one of the weakest.
12. Haggerd, House Spider. Led by Karl Haggerd, the duke of Ostigar, this house was once among the most powerful. However, as Ostigar has been consumed by the Corruption, the house has lost all of its power and faded into obscurity. The lack of communication by them means that while they are still a ruling family, they are among the weakest. In their finest hour, House Spider controlled elegance, distributing the finest materials of all sorts throughout the lands.
13. Magnus, House Dragon. Led by Elya Silverborn, it is a long dead house that is only now making its resurgence. They once inspired fear in the hearts of everyone in the lands, in a time when they rode on the backs of dragons. With the presumed death of all the dragons and the entire familial line, the house was led by an enigmatic man known as the Dragon, until he was arrested for his crimes and fled. It is currently being ruled by his former mistress, who has no house blood.

Christ, that was like writing an actual IC post. Since you said Azhek was below House Dragon on the scale, that would not even rank them in the top 13, but I assume they are close.

Yus thanks. Let me add a few to that.
14. Marverde, House Dolphin. Led by Daniel Marverde, they are a retainer to House Owl. While neither powerful, popular, nor vast, this house is one of the unique few that tend to aquaponics. Owning several fleets worth of ships docked at both Easten and Wound, their house and all of its subservient houses fish from the bountiful seas to the south of the Sovereign Lands, selling their catch at Azberth as well as bringing goods from Leona.
15. Caim, House Goat. Led by Leah Caim, they are a standalone house stationed in Shroudhelm. While not as magically proficient as those in House Lion, they have mastered the art of runic magic. They tend to work with Crafting Guild in making lightweight, magically empowered armor and weapons. Several of their scholars tend to visit Marcheim to submit new books on the art, otherwise, on occasion, teach others in the Library's various rooms.
16. Lacivi, House Moth. Led by Maria Lacivi, they are a standalone house stationed in Somewhere, heading the Crafting Guild. Many high quality goods that involve sewing, leather-working, or fletching. They used to sell their goods in Azberth, but since it's consumption by the Corruption, trade has been bad for them, leaving their house all the weaker. While their clothing is still popular among the upper crust, their popularity in the other industries are waning.
17. Azhek, House Hawk. Led by Marco Azhek, they are a retainer for House Lion. Close ties with House Lion has made their family, after several generations over, more proficient with magical arts. They run the Vineyard in Shroudhelm, the very garden said to be blessed by Gatsby himself. Their wine is of a rare and specialized class, quickly gaining fame all around the Sovereign Lands. They function both as the social and personal militia class of House Lion.
18. Kostinov, House Weasel. Led by Gustav Kostinov, they are a retainer for House Dove. Owning several vineyards in Easten, they provide most of the wine around the Sovereign lands. Being led by a greedy man, a sizable amount of back-handed comments and gossip had made this House unpopular, and a black spot against House Dove's clean slate. Much controversy about how this house is the one that constantly fills House Dove's coffers through illegal means runs rampant around Marcheim.

Hokay, I get now what you mean when you said it feels like typing an IC post. Because it does.
Well, here's my contribution on NPC houses to play with in case you guys visit Azberth or Easten.
Marcheim
City of the Gods. Built in the center of the Sovereign Lands and contains two principal shrines (one to Gatsby and one to Cyprus). It also contains the Temple of the Gods, an ancient stone structure that the city was built around. It contains the nine auxiliary shrines, for when people don't want to seek the council of the gods, but instead just want to pray to them or pay tribute. Another notable building in the city is the Great Library, a large architecturally magnificent structure dedicated to Cyprus. It is a place scholarly types can go to learn about subjects of all manner, housing thousands upon thousands of books, as well as a shrine to Cyprus herself. One more notable building is the Marcheim Dance Hall, the only one in the Lands. It is dedicated to Gatsby, and has a shrine to him adorning the back wall by a row of tables overlooking the dance floor. People from all places and background are welcome to come, drink wine, and dance their sorrows away in this festive hall. The duchess of Marcheim is Madame Cadence Jezebel, an old and tired, but fair ruler.

Shroudhelm City of the Gods. The duchess of Marcheim is Madame Cadence Jezebel, an old and tired, but fair ruler.
Azberth City of Mercantilism. Built in the East and dangerously close to the ever-spreading Corruption, the window of time for its citizens is closing. People are going to have to chooose whether to leave now or spend the rest of their lives within the city walls. Goods are contantly being created, sold, moved, imported, and exported. One minute something's here, the next it's not. This high-powered urban environment has a very high population, beaten out only by Marcheim. It is much smaller, however, and its population density outmatches all the other cities combined. The residential district is divided into two parts. One is a wealthier suburb-like district where the rich can buy property of their own. The other is a slum district, where people have to room with other people that they don't even know just to fit into the already cramped locale, and to make ends meet. There are many people here proficient in a variety of trades, and if you have the coin, it is an excellent place to learn about such a trade. The duke of Azberth is Sir Damian Marcs, a dark-haired shady businessman and shrewd investor from a wealthy background.
Easten City of Nature. Ironically built in the Far South, it is majorly populated by farmers of all sorts. Some farm grain, others animals, and others still farm rare plants. Easten is large and sparsely populated, giving it the lowest population density of any city in the lands. Its walls are still high and strong, however, the guard population is very low due to most people in the city working the fields. Estates, mansions, and the like are extremely prevalent in the city. While many wealthy folk do live here, in contrast to Ostigar they prefer to spend their time in the quiet solace of home, tending to their crops and animals rather than betting on card games and death matches. Notable buildings are the Glasgow Meadery, owned by the duke and producer of the finest mead in the Lands, and the Sojourn Estate, owned by Breyn Sojourn and distributor of fresh, plentiful meat at a low cost, but which sacrifices the quality that can be obtained from its niche competitors. The duke of Easten is Sir Nicholas Glasgow, bespectacled kindly old man and fan of fine mead.
Ostigar City of Wealth. Property here was grand and expensive. Built in the Far East and inhabited by many fat bureaucrats, the city is completely closed in, as its exterior has been consumed by the Corruption. Its economy is, so far, succeeding at being self-sustained, though no one knows how much longer that will last. However, most of the city's inhabitants remain joyful and deal with the disconnect well. A very popular activity in the city is gambling. Card games are popular for the skilled in the city's tavern, the Dusty Hip Bone. Those who prefer luck as their mistress can be found betting at the city's various venues. Some choose the horse races because they are simple, easy to predict, and most importantly, easy to rig. But vastly more popular is the city's arena, aptly named the Judgement of the Gods. Here professional gladiators and aspiring warriors fight for fame, fortune, and most importantly, the citizens' amusement. The duke of Ostigar is Sir Karl Haggerd, a stone-faced bald man with a wispy gray beard that always looks cold and disapproving.

Just made another post, I feel like I'm a cliffhanger ending in a 90's cartoon...
WILL Balthazar escape the evil clutches of ???? Will he be able to find his brother in time? And WILL he ever see the sweet curves of a bottle of alcohol again? Find out next time in... More adventures in Mediocrity!
I never mentioned this before, Reingington, but I love your style of writing. It's very in your face, and manages to incorporate humor without breaking immersion or disrupting the story's flow.

My name is Ozymandias, king of kings. Look upon my works, ye mighty, and despair.
Seeing as the council was complaining to Lazarus about not having enough men, I'd say they would probably welcome guards. Shroudhelm is made up of mostly magic users, who aren't usually physically tough enough to be guards.

Offensive magic users being simply on-the-spot militia, otherwise they can't really be called upon to do guard duties like patrolling areas and investigating bandit activities, that is, unless that's their job.

Hell, Shroudhelm has even started to hire foreigners like Aghves. Normally, Aghves would be a sellsword on Lazarus's payroll, but in the dire shortage of guards, he's fully commissioned in as a Sergeant.
Hey Evan, I was wondering if you'd let me pass with making another character, but without a backstory. I'm kind of sick of writing them. I have a backstory in mind, but I'd much rather develop it as I go. There are just a few things to know about the character that I'd like to put in the app, but the rest I rather tell in-character.
Name: Myren Saevunis
Age: Immortal, appears in his mid-twenties.
Appearance (pictures do not count): Myren stands at about six feet, with dirty-blonde hair and neat patches of hair on the side of his face (sideburns, about half-way to beard length). His face is somewhat sharp and chiseled (but not too much), and his nose is of average length, but with a slightly elevated bridge. Myren's eyes were originally blue, but they've now become greyish, with tints of red (his eyes look like they're slightly irritated). Several nicks (scars) streak across his left cheek. Body-wise, he's not particularly strong, but he's certainly not weak. Despite all this, he's a good-looking person and likes to fancy himself a ladies-man.
In terms of clothing, Myren commonly wears a high-collar, dark-brown leather jacket over a simple dark-grey shirt. Several leather straps wrap around his upper body, holding certain essentials like Lyrium and consumables. Strapped around his waist is a red fabric worn similarly to a belt, with a good chunk of it hanging from his waist in a decorative manner (mainly because it looks cool waving in the wind). Myren also wears leather gloves with segmented finger plate.. armor, sort of. His legs are covered in somewhat closely fitting leather pants (with several straps like on his jacket) and boots. Though not always worn, he carries around a distinctive mask (similar to this.
Also, vampire fangs.
Birthsign: The Fist
Starting location: I don't know yet
Starting inventory (includes tools or weapons as well): Nothing besides a handful of Lyrium potions and the like (whatever a magic user would deem useful, but easy to carry).
Bio (details are mandatory: do a paragraph or two):
no pls, dont maek me do it, i want to do it in detail in-character
Other: He fits the description of a trickster god. He's sadistic, sometimes cruel, and obsessed with power. He's not evil though, more like a very, very dark hero. Think of Sheogorath from the Elder Scrolls, but waaay less crazy. I say he's kind of like him because they both like to spend time with mortals, and it often ends in a drinking fest and him showing the mortals a good time. He looks beyond good and evil and instead focuses on extending his power. If given the choice between saving a farmer or obtaining a powerful artifact, he'd go for the artifact. But under normal circumstances he wouldn't hesitate to save the farmer. He's charismatic.
Question: I don't understand how magic works. If I wanted to make him a dark mage, how would I go about doing that?
Also, it's still climbing up the ranks. Maybe a few paces below Dragon, which is the least of the 13 most powerful, mostly because I'd like a few stepping stones before I start stepping on toes looking for its former leader.

Protip: Don't trust Aghves with these things.

City of the Gods. Built in the center of the Sovereign Lands and contains two principal shrines (one to Gatsby and one to Cyprus).

My name is Ozymandias, king of kings. Look upon my works, ye mighty, and despair.
Sometimes I wonder if it's all too easy.
Lying, cheating, stealing your way to victory.
Though just how far would you fall for a dream?
How would Shroudhelm, at it's current state, go about hiring guards?
The reason I ask this is the the fact that the city has less than the average amount of guards.
Would the process of recruitment of guards be more hasty due to the need for more guards?
Or am I just being ignorant?
