There is a wooden handrail, but it's not very wide, likely rotten, and likely a bad idea to try and walk on, especially considering Orson would have nothing to hold onto that'd prevent him from falling down the tower.
Orson decides to try and carefully walk up the steps while holding onto the handrail, hoping it's strong enough to save him from falling.
While Boris is starting to enjoy the happy tune Uyir is whistling, the sound of Curi's insult shatters his improving mood. Dropping his sacks on the ground, Boris grabs Curi by the neck with one hand, lifting her like a toy dole in the air while pulling back his other hand in a fist, ready to strike her, and says; "Don't you say those bad things! I told you no be mean to Boris - why you say mean things for??"
"I didn't say anything...what are you on about?" she questions. Oddly calm. She is not about to let her anger get the best of her.

Uyir turns to Boris, concerned "I did not hear her say anything, myself. What did she say to you?" He asks calmly, stopping whistling
Jord, after leaving the vicinity of the church had coincidentally walked towards Uyir, Curi and Boris. As soon as he saw Uyir approaching he shouted: "Hey, weren't you at the inn and the church?"
Uyir turns to Boris, concerned "I did not hear her say anything, myself. What did she say to you?" He asks calmly, stopping whistling
Boris sees Jord approaching. Ignoring Curi, though keeping her held high, he answers Uyir, voice shaken with rage.
"She says Boris is ugly and no one like him! You didn't hear it - why you not hear her say so?"
As Jord speaks to Uyir, Boris feels frustrated, since the distraction may prevent him from getting a straight answer from Uyir. His enraged confusion is clear on his face.
"I'm sorry, I don't even know what I'm thinking right now. I'm just so worried about my little friend and at the same utterly enraged by those two buffoons back there," Betty rants as she takes the lead. "I just can't for the life of me believe just how dumb those two guys are, scaring a little innocent creature like that. They ought to get their gosh darn heads examined, and to think I actually thought one of them was cute - like what the hell is even wrong with me?"
She leads on, continuing to rant about one thing or another and following the broken path of dragon prints through the snow. Eventually the tracks lead them to a house, which they search for a little while before finding out that the tracks started up again on the other side of the house. They continue following trail until at it comes to an end at the base of a tree, where they find Chisille nestled in the upper branches frightened out of her mind.
"It's okay, my little sweetie!" Betty calls up to her. "That Ariel guy was only joking, there ain't no one coming after you with no gosh darn pitch forks. You know I wouldn't let anyone hurt a scale on your pretty little head. So you just come on down here this instant, young lady, because if you think I'm gonna let you walk around this town all on your own then you have another thing coming. Now come on down now, or I'm just gonna keep talking until you do. and don't you worry about this witch either, she's a nice witch and alright in my books, and she even tied up those two other fools and set me free so I could find you."
Betty puts her hands smartly on her hips and stares affectionately up at her friend.
Finally she saw something approaching her from the top of the tree she was in. As she watched them get closer she identified the first one she saw as... Betty! The only thing one that she was actually glad to see come. The only other human that had come along with her was that witch Lyudmila right behind her as they walked through the snow, following the rushed footprints that she had left behind.
Betty started to talk to her, implying that the guy who had called her out was merely joking around with his threats. She would've liked to tell that mean guy exactly what she thought of his joke, though the consequences of that action would not go down well... for either her or Ariel, depending on which person throws the first attack.
Thankfully as Betty continued to discipline her from below, no others appeared to have followed the pair. Great. She was free to get down from this tree without those others gawking at her for who she was or implying more death threats on her.
Chisille spread her leathery grey wings out and crawled to the end of the branch she was on. She took a leap off of it, causing the branch itself to spring back and wobble unsteadily as she soared through the air, spiraling around the tree as she slowly descended from it's height. Once she was close enough to the ground, she put on the metaphorical brakes and came to a sudden stop mid-air, landing on the fresh snow a few meters away from Betty and Lyudmila. "Sorry..." she muttered in apology for running away as she slowly walked the rest of the distance towards them, stopping halfway between where she was and where they were standing.
"Well, good thing we found you. Shall we continue with our original plan and try to find a way into the castle?"
Gwendolyn sits up, blinking the sand out of her eyes. The bird in her arms flutters as she moves, shifting itself onto the top of her head as she blearily looks around. Glancing at the ground below her, she scoots forward, dropping into a crouch as she hits the ground.
She turns her eyes back at the ground, staring, perplexed, at the many footprints at her feet. After a moment, she moves, following them to wherever they may lead.
Boris sees Jord approaching. Ignoring Curi, though keeping her held high, he answers Uyir, voice shaken with rage.

Uyir calmly holds up a hand to Jord "One second please, busy." He yells over to him, before turning to Boris "Sorry about that. No, I did not hear her say anything, not, from my brief experience with her, does that sound like something she would say" He says calmly, attempting to calm down Boris

Boris ain't the sharpest tool in the shed, but something about what Uyir says seems to ring true to him. For some he wonders if maybe Uyir is deceiving him, but somehow Boris decides that, for now, he should believe him.
Boris glares at Curi a while longer then drops her. He picks up his sacks of gold again, and tells her. "You better not be a mean liar." Boris gives Uyir another look, a little ashamed for his actions, but more than anything else his expression to Uyir is one that suggests that his comment to Curi goes for him too.

Curi was oddly silent during all of this, she looked up at Uyir with a look of thankfulness in her eyes for a second before standing up straight. Not saying a word.

Uyir nods at Boris "Thank you." He turns to Jord, and walks over to him, ignoring Curi's expression of thanks. He did nothing more than express what he knew. "So," he says, once he reaches Jord "you wished to speak to me?"
Jord looked at the group, noticing that he knew Boris and Uyir, but he had no idea who the woman was. "Hello, I'm Jord, who are you?", he said to Curi to introduce himself.
"Curi." she stated simply to the man.

A figure walks through town, their boots stirring up tiny clouds of dust. Their dark eyes flash as they glance back and forth from within the shadows of the hood of their ratty, brown traveler's cloak.
As they march towards the center of town, they slowly draw their cloak tighter around them to ward off the strange chill. But they continue to walk.

As the group move on to the edge of the cemetery, Boris is busy goggling Curi, still feeling suspicious of her motives, when he spots something moving along the edge of the road beyond the grave stones. He stops to have a better look and makes out a person huddled in a brown cloak and walking with purpose towards the church.
"Hey guys!" He speaks up to grab the attention of his three companions. "Who is that over there? That might be her - the bad girl!" Boris grimaces and grumbles under his breath. "Maybe I kill her properly this time!"
Boris then heads towards the person hidden in the brown cloak with long heavy strides, calling after them in a loud and menacing voice - "Hey, you there! You come show your face to Boris!"

The person turns around to stare at Boris. Noticeably, they tuck one of their hands under their cloak.
"I don't see why I should," they say, frostily. Their voice has a hint of an accent. No hope of asking him for directions, they decide. He's clearly itching for a fight.

Boris stomps up to the person and comes to a sudden halt when he hears their voice, it wasn't the same as the bad girls voice.
"Hey," He said in a much lower tone that eases further while he's talking; "You not the bad girl. You someone else." He takes one step back, realizing that he was probably intimidating, since he usually has that affect on people.
"I... my name is Boris." He tells them. "Pardon my manners if I frightened you at all. But there be bad girl on the loose. I thought you might have been her...."

They blink at Boris, clearly confused. Personally, they decide, they're distinctly more worried about Boris being on the loose. Their stance doesn't relax.
"Pardon, then," they say, walking around Boris and towards the others. They don't walk within his reach.

For some reason, Boris feels a touch hurt by their response. Maybe it was because they decided not to introduce themselves, maybe it was because they decided to favor the others over him... or maybe it was both - but whatever the reason was, he just stood and watched as the newcomer walk past and avoided him, a dumb look on his face while he scratched his chest on account of the rising ache in his heart. He may not have even been aware that he was speaking when he then, very softly, mumbled the words;
Ariel was just about to offer Renard a few tips on making a more efficient design for his gun - since formerly being an angle had given him insight on weapons from future eras - when Annie's poke to his ribs made him jump and yell out in surprise. His automatic reaction was to then turn around and give the girl a swift smack to the face, but he stopped with his hand just inches from striking her. He paused in that position for a second, and told her sternly.
"Don't! You'll regret messing with me, little girl."
"And... uh..." Renard gives Ariel a strange look, watching him throw a fit.
"Yeah, uh... right, I sold my design to some hotshot king, but they still haven't gotten back to me with my payment," says Renard, continuing on.
Jack soon finds a place that looks like it could be climbable. Judging by the footprints going away from the tower at this point, someone climbed down the tower here before.
Jack looks at the footprints as he finds a climbable section of the church. "Someone else was up here recently... well, guess that means this'll work for getting up there." He takes a look up the side of the church and tower, confirming that it looks suitable for making an ascent.
Buttons blinks slowly a couple of times as he listens to Jack intently, and when Jack is done talking he seems reluctant, but leaps from his arm no less and takes a position beside the tower. He meows in a long drawn out tone to keep Jack's attention, and in keeping Jack's attention he looks up the belfry, back at Jack, up at the belfry, then back at Jack again and releases a whine, obviously concerned for Jack's safety - But there was also something else on Buttons' mind...
Lifting one paw, he shows Jack his extended claws, he then looks at Jacks crossbow, and then lifts his claw towards the belfry in a sharp, thrusting manner. He was trying very hard to tell Jack something, but a part of the puzzle was obviously missing as Buttons then looked around for the missing link to that puzzle. After a little while, Buttons' eyes settled on Jack's belt.
"Long" he said, then regarded Jack's crossbow, his belt again, and then thrusting his clawed paw up in the direction of the belfry once more.
Jack watches Buttons as he does his motions, taking a moment to decipher them before answering, "Ah, something like that would make it easier to scale the tower, yes. I did have rope with me, but..." He recalls the day before, when he scaled a section of the border of the quarantined zone. He had been in such a rush to make his way to Waise, he had forgotten to recover the rope he had used then. "Well... anyways, you wouldn't happen to know where I can find some more, would you?"

"Damn it all anyway." Ariel turns back towards Maras and Renard. "You know, I'm serious about this. That girl is stalking me. I'm not lying, what reason would I have to do that? She just poked me hard under the ribs. Honestly, its not just the alcohol talking here."

Buttons, apparently bitten by a flea at the most inopportune time, quickly gives his back leg a nibble, then makes time to lick his bottom for a second before looking back at Jack wide eyes and full anticipation. Releasing a short and abrupt meow that sounded uncannily like a 'yes', Buttons darts off across the road and up a little ways and jumps through a previously shattered window of an abandoned shop. The sign above the door of the shop reads 'Bits and Pieces'. From inside, Jack can hear Buttons' distant meowing for attention, no doubt wanting Jack to follow.
Orson decides to try and carefully walk up the steps while holding onto the handrail, hoping it's strong enough to save him from falling.
