Hello MC Forum!
I feel like organizing (organising if you live anywhere other than the US and Canada :| ) a game of Mafia.
Incase you don't know how to play, here's the rules, along with the history, and I'll also write out my own interpretation.
Mafia is a game played between two teams, the Town and the Mafia. At the start of the game, you will be informed of your roles via PM. For basic roles, see below:
Town
The townspeople are the uninformed majority. This means that no town member is told who the other town members are at the start of the game. The townspeople win when all mafia have been killed.
Mafia
The mafia are the informed minority. This means that each member knows who the other members are at the start of the game. The mafia are allowed to speak at night. The mafia win when they tie or outnumber the townspeople.
Now, for gameplay! Each round of the game includes two phases, the Day phase and the Night phase. These are abbreviated with their first initial and which round the game is in (ex. Day 1 is D1 and Night 3 is N3). For more information, see below:
Day
During the day, everyone in the town, not to be confused with the townspeople, discuss, debate, and vote on who they are going to lynch. A person is lynched when a majority of the town votes for that person. After I say that the vote is complete, the person is considered dead, no earlier, no later. Night
During the night phase, no one is allowed to talk on this forum thread. The only discussions that can be held are between the roles who have been given specific permission. The mafia declare the one person they are killing, and send me a message, and any other roles with night actions (see power roles) send me their actions. The night phase ends when all actions have been completed. I may use a variant on this. If I do, it will be announced clearly. The Next Day
At the start of the following day phase, I will announce any deaths or other actions that took place the previous night.
Dying
Whenever anybody dies, I will announce what role they were given and maybe some information on the circumstance, ex. Wrenzo, townsperson, was found dead in his home after N2.
Based upon how many people play, I will assign "power roles," i.e. roles with special powers, as I see fit. Here is a list of roles I may/may not include (you won't know until you figure it out in-game), as well as their teams, listed in the order of the probability of me assigning them.
Cop, alligned town ... though could be corrupted - The cop has the ability to investigate a person at night to learn if they are alligned town, or against the town (though not necessarily mafia), and possibly what role they have. If, for whatever reason I cannot think of, the cop is investigated, they are revealed a cop. I may use a variant on this. If I do, it will be announced clearly.
Butcher, alligned town - The miller is like a normal townsperson, but when investigated, they are revealed as against the town.
Godfather, alligned mafia - The Godfather (usually capitalized ... or capitalised?) is the head of the mafia, but when investigated, they are revealed as a townsperson. I may use a variant on this. If I do, it will be announced clearly.
Doctor, alligned town - The doctor has the ability to save a person from death at night if they target a person who is chosen to die that night. When investigated, they are revealed as a doctor.
Vigilante, alligned town - The vigilante can choose to kill any person at night. When investigated, they are revealed as a vigilante.
Sociopath, 3rd party - The sociopath can choose to kill any person at night, and wins if he/she ties or outnumbers the other players, and have priority over the mafia. When investigated, they are revealed as a townsperson.
Mason, alligned town - The masons are a group of townspeople who know every other mason in the game. When interviewed, they are revealed as a townsperson.
And now for a bit of general information and rules. Please read all of these.
1. Anything you say (or do) can, and will be, held against you. Tread lightly.
2. Please, don't be obsessively annoying. If I get too many complaints, I will boot and replace you.
3. I must be attached to any personal messaging you do related to this game.
4. Don't PM anybody for game purposes if your role does not specifically allow it.
5. If something was unclear, message me for clarification.
6. I will include everybody who wants to play before the pre-game begins, though I would prefer to start with an odd number of people for the sake of voting.
7. Any announcement will be made in-game and saved in the space below.
