In the year 2021, human technology advanced to the point that communicating with extraterrestrial life became a real possibility. By 2024, humans had made contact with alien life. They called themselves the Coalition. They showed a great interest in humans and their technological advanced, and traveled to earth to investigate further. However, upon arrival, the Coalition immediately declared war on the human race, seeking to further their own technological advances. Their forces devastated any military force that challenged them with the combined firepower of their three flagships, the Striker, the Interceptor, and the Stormbreaker. The Coalition had won the war by 2026. The world's leaders had agreed on surrendering to the Coalition. No one dared to stand against the Coalition.
Humans were enslaved and forced to live in city centers constructed by the Coalition. The Coalition closely monitors all media and swiftly silences any opposition to their rule, with those who speak out against them taken away and erased from records, as if they never existed at all. Most see futility in rising against the Coalition, and simply accept their lives under the oppressive totalitarian rule. Some, however, refuse to live under the Coalition's rule. Across the world, resistance fighters have come together to form the Humanity Liberation Force.
The HLF knew they would need a place to hide from the Coalition if they were going to operate successfully. As such, they constructed a small city center to house the resistance fighters over the course of 20 years. Built in an abandoned region of Canada, the Capital (as it came to be called) exists as the operating base of the HLF and its resistance fighters.
You have recently enlisted in the HLF to join the fight against the Coalition and their police force, the Enforcers. Today is the day of your basic training. Good luck.
As of Act I:
The newest members of the HLF, Epsilon squad, have already made a name for themselves. They passed the basic training mission in record time, completed their first true mission with ease, and even successfully defended a resistance haven under siege within their first month. Epsilon shows promise, but only time will tell how the Coalition and Enforcers plan to respond to this new threat to their rule.
As of Act II:
Team Epsilon has discovered an unusual entity serving the Coalition. By extracting information from its brain, they have found a lead that could potentially bring about the downfall of the Coalition. No one is quite sure what to expect from this data. The Coalition's plans for eradicating the HLF remain unknown. No one knows how the Enforcers will react. Despite these unknowns, the cryptarch data is their best lead.
Gameplay
Health and damage: Every unit has hit points and a minimum damage counter. Attacking things causes them to lose HP. The damage of players' attacks is determined by the creativity of their attack. The maximum amount of damage you can deal is 10x your minimum damage. (The damage system is base off of TT2000's old forum game, The Infinite War.) If a player runs out of HP, they may be critically wounded, at which point they must be revived before bleeding out. If they bleed out, they'll be KO'd, at which point they can't do anything and must be evacuated. Certain items can revive KO'd players.
Funding: Credits are earned through multiple means. When not on a mission, you can spend credits on shop items and equipment upgrades. Shop items are created by players, and can perform a variety of functions. However, equipment upgrades must be researched.
Research: You can select a research project whenever you're not on a mission. Research takes several ingame days to complete, but yields great rewards. You can pass the time by scanning at different sites to obtain resources.
XP and levels: Players gain XP separately. XP is earned by performing meaningful actions, like dealing damage or getting kills. Completing missions or doing other major actions rewards the whole team with XP. Leveling up slightly boosts your stats, and certain level milestones unlock new abilities that are unique to your class. The level cap is 25 (Colonel).
Classes
Every player has a class. You can pick any of these.
(mouse over the abilities to see what they do)
Assaulter
The assaulter functions as a frontline combat unit. They're the first ones into a fight, and the last ones out.
HP: ===--
Speed: ====-
Healing: ==---
Base ability: Rushdown
Slide towards a target and fire at them, granting you additional forward movement in addition to a shot. 3 turn cooldown.
Aggressor skill tree / Assassin skill tree:
Deep Impact < [Private (4)] > Phantom
Stick and Move < [Corporal (7)] > From the Shadows
CQC < [Sergeant (10)] > Ghost
Run and Gun < [Warrant Officer (13)] > Conceal
Bloodthirsty < [Lieutenant (16)] > No Witnesses
??? < [Captain (19)] > ???
??? < [Major (24)] > ???
??? < [Colonel (25)] > ???
Support
Supports are trained in, well, support. Able to function as combat medics and hackers, they're an important part of the team.
HP: ==---
Speed: ===--
Healing: ====-
Base ability: Hack
Attempt to hack into enemy electronics. Cannot hack mechanical enemies.
You arrive at the Capital, the operating base of the HLF. You look over the city in awe. It's a wonder how they kept this place hidden from the Coalition and the Enforcers.
A man in a fancy uniform approaches you.
Man: You must be the new recruits. I'm Commander Marshall. I'm the leader of the HLF, and I'll be guiding you through the training assignment. Are you all ready?
You nod.
Marshall: Alright, then let's go.
Marshall leads you to the training course.
Marshall: As soon as everyone is here, we can get started.
Marshall: Now that everyone is here, let's get started.
Several holographic images begin to flicker into existence before solidifying. There are now several walls and stacks of crates around you, as well as a few images of Enforcer grunts.
Marshall: Let's start with the basics. You're gonna need to know how to fire at a target, so get into cover and take down these holograms.
You're in an empty room. There are several stacks of crates scattered around the room, most of which are fairly close. Slightly further away are some decently-sized walls that could provide good cover.
Objectives:
[ ] Destroy the targets
Other:
Nothing of importance.
The aim stat determines your base chance to hit, not factoring in evasion or cover. All players have 90 aim, so a 90% chance to hit.
Evasion affects your base chance to completely avoid attacks.
Dodge affects your chance to be grazed by an attack instead of hit. Grazing hits deal less damage.
There are three tiers of cover: low, mid, and high. The better the cover, the better the evasion boost you gain from it. You should stay in cover as much as possible.

Do turrets and barricades carry between waves or missions?
If so, then I build a turret. If not, then I just shoot a grunt with my rifle.
Waves work differently in this game. Every mission places you on a map that allows you to go in different directions. Turrets and barricades will stay wherever you build them, and don't carry over between missions.
I pop from behind a crate and shoot the holograms. Mark me down as a Support.
PS: will we be able to change classes later on? We might suffer some... attrition during the war, and we may need to change team compositions.
Glad to see you, Crusher!
You take cover and destroy the hologram! +23 XP!
You can change your classes, but it requires credits and a few ingame days. However, you won't lose any levels and you'll get any abilities for that class you would've unlocked.
You're in an empty room. There are several stacks of crates scattered around the room, most of which are fairly close. Slightly further away are some decently-sized walls that could provide good cover. The room is mirrored on the other side.

[ ] Destroy the targets
Other:
The enemies are quite far away, and may take some time to reach.
Sniper rifles cannot be fired if you move at the same time. You can, however, fire your pistol after moving. Everyone has a pistol they can use when their primary is empty.
You can melee attack enemies in your movement range. This moves you very close to them, so watch for flanking enemies.
Don't forget creativity boosts damage!
Cover can be destroyed with grenades. Grenadiers are best at this.

I attempt to attack the enemy with my GREMLIN, but then realize that we haven't researched attack drones yet. Instead, I duck behind a box, then pop up and attempt to suppress the grunt behind high cover, with the intent being to nail him with bullets if he tries to pop out to shoot. Given that holograms are rarely all that smart, they will pop out to shoot, and get blasted.

I fix my name so that it's Darthrafael instead of Darthrefael (lol), then hide behind a crate and fire at a Grunt with my SMG
If it's not too late, I guess I'll join as a Sharpshooter.
