As the title states, I have started making chiptune remixes, and decided to share with everyone. All the songs can be found here.
In case anyone wanted to know, below are the tools I use. Tools differ dependant on what song I am remixing, and what makes it sound not terrible.
OpenMPT (Music Tracker)
FL Studio (Rarely)
These are the ones that depend on the song being remixed:
Chipsounds VST Icecream VST
NES VST
NES Tri, Pulse, & Noise VSTs
Magical8bitPlug VST
RetorizerF-01M VST
I have thought about using Famitracker, but much prefer OpenMPT
All of these tools are free, the exception is Chipsounds VST, but the demo is for 5 minutes of song, and that is the version I use.
Links on where to download the tools will come soon for those who want it.
The sound design could use some work. More often the not the instruments seem to be clashing against one another and fighting for the same frequency spectrum, rather than building on and complementing each other. The levels seem fairly haphazard as well, with the percussion (as well as some of the synths) being far too quiet in many of these. Your arrangement is obviously pretty good, but the production side isn't quite there yet.

Thanks for your input. I have been trying to work with the levels for a little while, I am mostly sure that the cause is the VST because some put the levels a bit oddly, making voice lower than, say, drums.

I was thinking the same thing, but didn't know how to put it into words.
