The fact that she uses outdated slang is actually a part of this. Plus, she made Fluttershy cry, which was just a complete bitchmonster thing to do.
I'm OLD. Her slang didn't bug me, probably for that reason.
I'm not going to defend some of her behavior, but I still kinda like her (I also like Shenzi from The Lion King, go figure...). In fact, I kinda want to draw her with my gryphons now. I can just see Phoebe (a shame it can't be Pandora, would be funny if she had a bottle of booze or a joint) just kinda frowning at Gilda.
"You scared an old lady and stole an apple. You are SOOOO HARDCORE." *Eye roll*
Also, is this episode the origin of Fluttershy as emotionally fragile? Granted, I had to ask Vegeta what the scouter said about Gilda's ***** level, but still... Pinkie and RD would not prank her, yet nothing before that had indicated that she was actually that delicate. I mean, she went up to a roaring monster in the pilot... Shy, sure. Quiet, maybe a bit docile, but certainly not fragile like that.
Semi-related, I've created a new OC/headcanon. There are several fanons that include different types of griffins made of different combinations of birds and large cats, with Gustav for example being half pelican. The King of the Griffins (so-far unnamed, though I'll take suggestions), then, is half phoenix and half Nemean lion, combining immortality with nigh-invulnerability (can only be killed by asphyxiation) to create pretty much the perfect warrior, fitting as the ruler of the supposed warrior race. In addition, he's also their first king, really making him more of an emperor--before his lifetime, the griffins were anarchic and barbaric with hardly any form of government, but he amassed an army and swept through the lands to produce a single, glorious kingdom.
Even though he has no magic beyond the light tricks that the phoenicia in Dragon Quest show, he could still take Celestia one-on-one if he wanted--his claws can cut through any armor and can be heated to astronomical temperatures, literally. However, the Griffin Kingdoms and Equestria are at peace. In fact, Philomena may have been a gift from him to show his good will.
I like this theory. Meaning if I ever go back to my gryphons, they can be more owl and magpie? Sweet. Suddenly, magic and cunning (respectively) make more sense, whereas eagles are usually associated with aggression.
Can anyone think of a good pony name for a steam account? Anyone?
"FillyRarity" taken?
If you had your own pony name, what would that be? You could use that.
Oh, I just remembered: a while back, I saw this cool picture of Gilda, she was sitting or leaning against a tree or something, she had a cigarette, and it was sunset or dusk. Free rep for anyone that can find that one for me. I liked it but didn't bother to save it.
I just wanted to share this image of some sort of Nightmare Celestia. Must say that the mane and tail are spot on, and the lighting just makes it even better.
Betrayal. Corruption. Failure. Redemption. I love traits like these, and I like the concept of Celestia 'falling' as Luna did once. I wish there was an awesome fanfic where Tyrant Celestia became real, and she needs some sort internal conflict to really give the whole thing depth.
Hellfire Sun. And that's exactly how I imagined her mane--with the solar eruptions and all. Quite a beautiful picture, and interesting how she's staring at Twilight--I wonder what she's thinking right now? "Can I stand to engulf the world in flames if my brightest glimmer of hope must suffer the same fate?"
****ing bingo. That sort of precipice of disaster, of turning ill, is what I want to see in a tale.
Also, is this episode the origin of Fluttershy as emotionally fragile? Granted, I had to ask Vegeta what the scouter said about Gilda's ***** level, but still... The sensitivity sort of followed logically from her character. When Twilight approaches her in the pilot, she hides behind herself and hardly even squeaks out her answers, simply because it's a stranger... and a pony. Not an animal, but a pony!

There was never any reason not to. In fact, I'm starting to get more ideas for cool griffin combinations--what would happen if it was half vulture? Half hummingbird? Sabertooth tiger? Ostrich?

I tried, Dom. I really did. As consolation, have a picture of French mare smoking one of those cool slender pipe things that French people smoke and ****.

Have some pretty awesome stained glass.
Stretching my acquired knowledge of previous gens, I'm almost sure the human is Megan from G1, who somehow became queen of the ponies. I recognize Surprise (G1) in the upper left, and I'm pretty sure one of the pegasi with the rainbow at the top is Firefly (G1). I'm willing to bet that going down symbolizes going from generation to generation, and I think I recognize G3 Rainbow Dash (who always dresses in style)--and G3 Pinkie is pretty obvious, being pretty close to the current incarnation. Also, if G2 (which I've strangely never heard anything about) actually had a main pony with patchwork as a cutie mark, I'm rather impressed. That's clever.
Edit: Yeah, I'm pretty sure right above G4 is G3--I see Cheerilee and Scootaloo, standing next to each other because they were sisters back then.
Can anyone think of a good pony name for a steam account? Anyone?
What I did for my current username, Extantdread, I thought of two words, one or both of them being kind of odd/rare, made sure they at least sort of made sense together, and combined them. Extantdread basically means "surviving fear". So you could do that with pony words, I guess. And is FillyRarity taken already or something? Oh well. Shoot me a friend request when you get on there. I remember those things from Pink Panther.

As much as they sucked, we should still be thankful for the earlier generations.
Betrayal. Corruption. Failure. Redemption. I love traits like these, and I like the concept of Celestia 'falling' as Luna did once. I wish there was an awesome fanfic where Tyrant Celestia became real, and she needs some sort internal conflict to really give the whole thing depth.
It would certainly be an interesting idea. With as popular as Tyrant Celestia is, Nightmare Moon fics, all sorts of stuff like that, I am genuinely surprised that nobody has come in and posted one like that yet.
I felt like there was a great deal of conflict in Nightmare Moon. The trials placed before the Mane 6 seemed intentional, to bring out the trait corresponding to their Element within them. And since every challenge was set up by NMM, it's a logical assumption that the part of her that was still Luna somehow set that all up to save her from what she had become.
Liking a villain isn't necessarily a bad thing. I just have a hard time liking a genuinely awful person. The way she acts, it's hardly even civil.
Not that I hate her. It's just that I can't find the will to approve of her.
Maybe I just like her because she snapped at Pinkie?
Nah, there's more to it than that, despite a lot of behavior I can't defend or overlook.
The sensitivity sort of followed logically from her character. When Twilight approaches her in the pilot, she hides behind herself and hardly even squeaks out her answers, simply because it's a stranger... and a pony. Not an animal, but a pony!
The logic follows, I agree. Not even about Gilda at this point, Pinkie would not squirt her with water from the silly turtle. She had no problem scaring a baby dragon, messing up Twilight's experiment, and so on. That was just kind of odd to me.
But I think I am just rambling at this point for sake of discussion. There are far better things to talk about than Fluttershy, like this next point:
There was never any reason not to. In fact, I'm starting to get more ideas for cool griffin combinations--what would happen if it was half vulture? Half hummingbird? Sabertooth tiger? Ostrich?
Canon? BAWWWW? I see no reason not to either, and the associations that different species of bird and big cat have would help figure out their personality.
Mega ramble time:
Gilda was lion and eagle. Both species are known for being aggressive, therefore her being full aggro mode makes sense.
Going back to gryphon OC Phoebe, lion/owl. Owls are associated with wisdom and magic (I played the magic side with her), lions are also lazy gluttons. She's lazy and fat.
So...Vulture would have that typical vulture vibe of having a screw loose and general creepiness. Not to mention an ugly vulture head. Hummingbird? Gryphon Pinkie. Ostrich, that would be very odd-looking, not to mention hiding it's head when trouble shows up.
As for sabertooth, Gilda had teeth... That would be NUTS. It would be a dork gryphon with big ol' buck teeth.
I tried, Dom. I really did. As consolation, have a picture of French mare smoking one of those cool slender pipe things that French people smoke and ****.
Close enough. I was actually expecting one of the other guys to find it, then I realized none of them post anymore. ****.
Daybane implies she would be the bane of the day. I think the cliche is that she wouldn't set the sun and would cause the world to turn into desert, if not just burn it to a crisp herself. And some other good names I've heard are Solar Flare and Mourning Star.
I dislike all the "-bane" names I have heard. Sunbane Star is another one I have seen around. Blech. Mourning Star sounds cool, and it fits with Celestia: she has never demonstrated greed or jealousy (like what took down Luna), but I CAN see sadness causing her to snap.
(Was gonna do something like that at some point with my characters. I may have to revive these projects, regardless of my interest in the show/fandom.)
Canon? BAWWWW? I see no reason not to either, and the associations that different species of bird and big cat have would help figure out their personality.
There's no canon to overrule it. Like I said, it comes from the assumption that Gustav from MMMystery was half pelican.

The original griffin myth came from the eagle being king of the skies and the lion king of the land. They apparently didn't feel the need to add in some shark, but whatever. By the way, they were never too aggressive in myth--actually, they were seen as substitutes of angels. They guarded treasure, and were strictly monogamous; to the point of willingly starving to death when their mate dies. Also, they ate horses, which may explain a bit of the conflict with ponies.
At any rate, with the still-nameless King (I'm actually thinking of having his name be lost in time, or known only to a select few confidants), the phoenix is basically a flaming eagle (originally) and the Nemean lion is just a golden lion, so keep the regality symbolism.
And another thing I noticed--phoenicia are said to have come from the sun, and one myth about the Nemean lion says it fell from the moon. Still debating what this means.
So...Vulture would have that typical vulture vibe of having a screw loose and general creepiness. Not to mention an ugly vulture head. Hummingbird? Gryphon Pinkie. Ostrich, that would be very odd-looking, not to mention hiding it's head when trouble shows up.

I can only see the vulture and ostrich griffins having the necks and heads of the original birds, which doesn't make much sense considering Gilda's a lot larger than a normal eagle. Also, ostriches don't bury their heads, that's just a myth--it's literally never, ever been documented as happening.
The sabertooth griffin's tusks would come out of the edges of its beak, not the middle. I imagine a duck bill would look best with that configuration.
Oh God, duck griffin. Combine with tiger, and you've got a great swimmer. And what about swan+Bengal tiger? This stuff is really interesting.
Close enough. I was actually expecting one of the other guys to find it, then I realized none of them post anymore. ****.
She's warning people not to volunteer to go onto the Jerry Springer Show, which says it's looking for bronies. They won't show us in a positive light, that's for sure.

Nameless is good. They could always call him some sort of formal title and leave it at that, especially if he's immortal and been around forever.
And another thing I noticed--phoenicia are said to have come from the sun, and one myth about the Nemean lion says it fell from the moon. Still debating what this means.
It means that we need to go on Maury and find out who the father is.

Well, they would have to have the head at least. The lack of feathers on the vulture's face would make it really creepy. Too bad hyenas aren't feline, just mix those two and make a totally insane creature that is obsessed with death. And then make it emo.
I was just thinking how hilarious a buck-toothed gryphon would look. You've seen my character designs, you know I'm partial to saberfangs on predators. That idea amuses me. As for the tiger with the swan... Wow. This is an interesting topic.
We could make a dwarf pet gryphon by combining your polydactyl kitten with a canary. Or a parrot.
She's warning people not to volunteer to go onto the Jerry Springer Show, which says it's looking for bronies. They won't show us in a positive light, that's for sure.
So... I used to watch a LOT of Jerry Springer. Any "brony" that shows up is going to be scary. Either dumping his girlfriend onstage because she likes Rarity and he likes Fluttershy, or some sort of creep into pony play. But ether way, wouldn't stand out too much compared to the usual "I am actually a man" and "I slept with your brother, cousin, best friend, father, worst enemy, cat, nephew and the 1987 Denver Broncos" people.
I am now filled with sick curiosity and wonder what sort of horrors they will unearth.
What the heck. Around February-April around 10 pages of posts appeared overnight, so I couldn't keep with everything. Now there are 5 pages of posts in three days, and I still can't. Apparently, the discussion is now about quality not quantity.
Since everything I wanted to say about the current topic was already said, have a crossover with Full Life Consequences.

I am sorry but I just felt like posting this:
I also don't know if this has been posted before, but this is random:

The males are lazy, the females get **** done. They do 99% of the work, and do it with style! I dunno what Phoebe's problem is then, unless it's because both species are primarily nocturnal.
Eeeyup. The atmosphere has changed around here, these days we concern ourselves more with relevant discussion, and worry less about post count. I still like a good video quote, though! (I prefer embedded video if possible - just make sure you use no spaces inbetween your media tags). Not sure about that Spike one.... what else you got?
Apparently, the discussion is now about quality not quantity.
Which is definitely a good thing. Less shitposting and more meaningful discussion.
Well, for the most part, anyway. This is what "saving the thread" means, I think: it's less about consistently occupying the top slot on the page and more about having discussions that people are actually involved in.

Lions are pimps. Get your bitches to do everything. But when you think "lion", who thinks the females?
I just totally shitposted, didn't I?
Have a couple things from my DA favorites, it's been a while since I have actually looked for anything new, but these are nice.
Nameless is good. They could always call him some sort of formal title and leave it at that, especially if he's immortal and been around forever.
I just have to decide what to call him. I thought just "King" would work, but that doesn't feel right--nor does "Emperor," and that was already taken by Star Wars.
I'm thinking Tsar or Czar, maybe just because the unification of the warring tribes reminds me of what happened to the Rus', over several generations, to form Russia.
Well, they would have to have the head at least. The lack of feathers on the vulture's face would make it really creepy. Too bad hyenas aren't feline, just mix those two and make a totally insane creature that is obsessed with death. And then make it emo.
Hyenas are feloid/feliform, i.e. cat-like. They're in the same Suborder as other cats, but not the same Family, so depending on your definition you could do that.
We could make a dwarf pet gryphon by combining your polydactyl kitten with a canary. Or a parrot.
We didn't manage to get Count Rugen in time. Instead, we got a female orange tabby with a normal amount of toes and named her Tiptoe, after one of the mane characters in a fanfic called Antipodes.
You could combine a lyrebird with a leopard (the only big cat to meow) to produce a vocalist griffin. Or combine a peacock with a black panther to create a supermodel.
Edit: Penguin+snow leopard to create an eskimo race. Or peregrine falcon+cheeta for a speed demon.
Someone here actually posted a link to the Jerry Springer facebook page asking for volunteers. It said something about being a brony and your girlfriend doesn't approve. So yeah, it's gonna be ridiculous.
I wonder what episode that vector's from. She seems delightedly interested in those flowers.
Also, happy Ice Cream Sandwich Day.
This is also the day when conservatives go to Chick-fil-a to defend their right to bash gays. I don't support this... but my family's going, and it'll get me some chicken, so why not?

That... Actually sounds good. Just avoid anything with "eternal" or similar words in it, that would sound too much like North Korea.

It's a stretch, but it could work. I'm just not sure what practical purpose such a creature would have besides being creepy. Obsessed with death, insane, goth or emo... Yeah, it's a cool idea for some sort of side character, and something I might draw if I get really bored.
Also, it would have to be a spotted hyena.

I saw that, I just like the big word that sounds like "pterodactyl". I'm surprised nobody called me on that obvious ******** response I made yesterday about triceratops puppies. Still, a gryphon with a ton of extra toes. Could work.
I get the feeling you are going to be making a very diverse gryphon world. It just seems like you're coming up with a lot of ideas that could be implemented in a fic centered around them, with only vague mentions of pony land.

"Shaniqua, there is something I need to tell you... You remember when we started dating, and you said your favorite pony was Pinkie Pie, and I said 'me too'? I lied. My favorite is actually Twilight Sparkle."
"WHAT? WHAT?!"
"I'm sorry babe, I really want to be with you, but-"
"Well, I lied too. I'm actually a man."
I know it said "girlfriend doesn't approve", so alternate scenario:
"Stephanie, I have a confession. I like My Little Pony."
"YOU DID WHAT?! YOU DID WHAT?!"
"Also, Stephanie, I slept with your sister."
"MY LITTLE PONY? WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?"
Am I honestly the only one here that thinks if this episode happened, it would be hilarious?
I wonder what episode that vector's from. She seems delightedly interested in those flowers.
I looked it up (the artist was kind enough to credit the sources of both the photo and vector) and apparently she's from "It's About Time". I'm surprised, I really don't recall RD being there much.
OK, Schlutt found the pic, it didn't work, he linked me the Ponybooru page (I need a shower), and I was able to link back to it on DeviantArt of all places.

I didn't say anything because I didn't have anything to add. Also, polydactyly is a genetic thing that could happen to any creature. Some humans have it.
I get the feeling you are going to be making a very diverse gryphon world. It just seems like you're coming up with a lot of ideas that could be implemented in a fic centered around them, with only vague mentions of pony land.
It sounds like a good idea, but I don't know what the plot would be. For now, I think I'll just brainstorm.

It must've been in the "disaster-proof Equestria" montage. She also had a few lines about the state of affairs in Baltimare and Los Pegasus, but that wasn't in the same mood that that stance implies.
Edit: Full moon tonight. Pageclaim for Luna.
I like the second humanization. It really gets the point across that she's a goddess of darkness. Though, I think she should look somewhat older.

My guess is it's from the scene where she finds Twi trying to not do anything for the rest of the week.
Calling people out on ******** and questioning everything takes a lot of energy out of you.

Speaking of Steam, again, that was really fun today. YOU MUST DO IT AGAIN SOMETIME.
Take your pick.

I remember those things from Pink Panther.
As much as they sucked, we should still be thankful for the earlier generations.
Oh good.
Oh. My. God.
LOOK AT THIS.
SHOW QUALITY EVERYTHING. AND LOOK AT DAT DERPY.
Maybe I just like her because she snapped at Pinkie?
Nah, there's more to it than that, despite a lot of behavior I can't defend or overlook.
Canon?
Close enough. I was actually expecting one of the other guys to find it, then I realized none of them post anymore. ****.

Also, this. I'm not sure what is real anymore.

Nameless is good. They could always call him some sort of formal title and leave it at that, especially if he's immortal and been around forever.
Well, the Photo Finish voice was alright, but god, Mandopony's voice.
Since everything I wanted to say about the current topic was already said, have a crossover with Full Life Consequences.
I am sorry but I just felt like posting this:
I also don't know if this has been posted before, but this is random:
It's always in the last place you look.

Everfree Server - A small & friendly survival build server for older 'Crafters.
Which is definitely a good thing. Less shitposting and more meaningful discussion.
Well, for the most part, anyway. This is what "saving the thread" means, I think: it's less about consistently occupying the top slot on the page and more about having discussions that people are actually involved in.
And the image link is broken. I quoted this, and yep, that little "broken image" icon.
Lions are pimps. Get your bitches to do everything. But when you think "lion", who thinks the females?
I just totally shitposted, didn't I?
Have a couple things from my DA favorites, it's been a while since I have actually looked for anything new, but these are nice.

Hyenas are feloid/feliform, i.e. cat-like. They're in the same Suborder as other cats, but not the same Family, so depending on your definition you could do that.
I'd like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that I am #1 in posts on this thread.
... But yeah. Quality over quantity.

I looked it up (the artist was kind enough to credit the sources of both the photo and vector) and apparently she's from "It's About Time". I'm surprised, I really don't recall RD being there much.
OK, Schlutt found the pic, it didn't work, he linked me the Ponybooru page (I need a shower), and I was able to link back to it on DeviantArt of all places.

Classic DJY.
My DeviantArt, so sexy
The Everlasting Tsar.
I didn't say anything because I didn't have anything to add. Also, polydactyly is a genetic thing that could happen to any creature. Some humans have it.
It sounds like a good idea, but I don't know what the plot would be. For now, I think I'll just brainstorm.
Ocelot+toucan? Actually, that one's just weird.
It probably would be.
It must've been in the "disaster-proof Equestria" montage. She also had a few lines about the state of affairs in Baltimare and Los Pegasus, but that wasn't in the same mood that that stance implies.
Edit: Full moon tonight. Pageclaim for Luna.

Your scenarios actually made my sister (who is vehemently against bronies) laugh out loud.
My guess is it's from the scene where she finds Twi trying to not do anything for the rest of the week.
