I enjoy their content. I like watching them do things like Garry's Mod and Feed the Beast and such. I have, and always will be, a fan of theirs. Do I agree that they seem to be less funny than two or three years ago? Yes, but I still find them funny. They make me laugh, something I haven't been able to do for quite a few years.
Now, the oldest of their videos that I have watched was the jaffa cake series.
I got to say, that I just hate their videos. EVERYTHING is scripted which is totally not cool to do with any let's plays because from that point, instead of it being some friends getting the experience of the game and having basically a good time, it just turns into another soap opera. (and a very bad one at that, for the plot never has any depth and is completely transparent).
And to top it all of; you have Simon. The absolute most annoying nimrod/ douchish person that I know of (I know what I'm talking about, every day I had to put up with a hoard of them at school).
Now the only thing I know them for is their videos and I have only watched a few series. But after reading these, well... they are all douche bags.
Asking why they are popular is like asking why Jersey Shore or Britney Spears is so popular.
No one really knows why they are still favorable and most are pitted against it, but there are always the groupies.
I mean they used to be funny when they first started. But lately they barely play minecraft anymore, and the other games they play and not entertaining to watch at all. They pretend to be bad at the game just to try to make it funny. I heard they are not nice guys in real life. I know the drunk Notch twitter posts turned out to be false, but they leave nasty comments sometimes. Some youtubers actually deserve fame because they are great at the game and make amazing builds. But yogcast, they just act like idiots and break all the rules in a challenge map. And the only mildly entertaining series they had, SoI, they barely play anymore. Care to think of more reasons?
So would you agree they are slightly Edit: EXTREMELY overrated?
I still think their essence is very much the same. I've watched Yogscast since they were prolly just getting over the 100k subs hump, possibly before. I've always been an avid fan and still am, despite how much they've changed their format. I think it's amazing that they're helping out their friends and old guild members from WoW to become YouTubers, too. They've made so many people who were nothing into famous or at least semi-famous YouTubers simply because they're technically apart of the Yogscast and the main channel promotes them.
Also, I think they are very much bad at games for the most part, it seems obvious. Watch their early videos of them playing WoW, I would get so infuriated watching them and how stupid they'd be. I love them and their humor, but I hated when they'd try to be serious. They're hilarious, and awesome, but genuinely bad at a lot of games.
In regards to SOI, I think a lot of stuff behind the scenes caused that to come to an end. It mostly has to do with someone who use to help them in the past, I think their name was Parv. This person ended up raging and I think deleting a bunch of the old server files that contained SOI content. Of course Yogscast won't reveal this to the public because of people possibly thinking less of them etc.
Also, I met Lewis, Duncan, and Hannah (Simon wasn't there, was sick) at Maker Studios during E3. I'm a small channel but was able to go out there and do some coverage. They were awesome, the same in person as they are in their videos. I use to think the same thing about them possibly being jerks, especially Lewis, after that whole Minecon thing. I think it was a misinterpretation, because they were awesome to talk to, and even though they could probably care less who I was, I chatted with them for a good half hour or so and shared a good amount of laughs.
I have to say, when first approaching Lewis, he didn't smile and take the compliments I gave him with thanking me etc. He simply sort of stared at me, squinting, when I talked about watching them and how I wouldn't of been there if it wasn't for them because they got me interested in Minecraft, and that's how my channel got bigger. I did find it sort of odd that he didn't react as happily initially as I expected, but of course I never said, "I'm Dave Yognaught and I have the balls" or that I'm a Yognaught, I just explained I've watched thousands of hours of their stuff. So I thought maybe since I didn't say that, he gave me a look for thinking I'm not a true fan. Either way, after introducing myself, he wasn't different at all from their videos, if even a bit nicer in person. He was willing to talk about anything, even told me some future ideas for their channel that they're working on, and some personal stuff about them that they wouldn't ever publicly say that I had always wondered.
The fact they were willing to reveal so much about themselves to someone they just met is something I found very different from most people with celebrity status, so they're very much normal people still, just in a really good position.
Got a picture with Lewis. Feel bad for not getting one with all of them, but had introduced myself to him and talked to him the most.
All let's play series suck. They are not creative, or original. Most of them are 12 year old kids stuttering, or 40 year old men making **** jokes every 5 seconds. The yogscast aren't that different. There should be no "how to survive your first night" or things like that because minecraft has no specific way on doing certain tasks. It's all how the player plays the game. I'm really ashamed that there's a "let's play" subforum as well. Let's play are not creations or machinima.
I think antvenom's hunt for the golden apple did fine. Even though the goal was never reached. It was a first and very unique.
Answering the question:
Minecraft. Their old videos like Survival island, SOI etc. Were very insteresting since they were carefully scripted and had the story had some WoW-like feeling. It felt like some guys playing a real game not a minecrat play. Which draw the ever growing minecraft fanbase
His main channel has decayed a bit. I still enjoy it but most of the time i only look at Duncan´s or Sjin´s videos. They are still funny and they do not pretend to be dumb to please their viewers.

I like some of the other Yogscast members, like Sips, who indulges in a large variety of games, not just Minecraft, and makes it enjoyable through classic editing. The only thing I thought was enjoyable about the main channel was Tekkit, and they stopped that at episode 117, without a mention of why they stopped it. I'm just sharing my opinion nothing else.
Never liked them, never will.
They are not funny, nor can they be funny.
They are just annoying.
I tried to watch a couple of episodes but they're honestly almost as bad as little 11, 12 year old kids doing LPs.
I just can't stand them.
when you say you just cant stand them that is jelousy.
Otters are fantastic
