I've decided to post some of my comic book work as I crank out the actual comic books. This may consist of the pages themselves (which are still a work in progress) concept art for characters, any drawing requests to keep me creatively pumped, and comic story boards and possible storylines. However whether I continue posting requires greatly on you, the possible reader. If I don't get viewers then why bother going to this effort you know?
So, I will start off by doing character bios of some of my superhero characters that will be in my books.
These characters are still being refined so don't be shocked if they change later
Name: Sasha Chrome
Age:19
DOB: unknown
Hair: Dark dark brown
Eyes: Crystal blue
Height: 5' 5"
Powers: Telepathy, telekinesis, flight, low level psychic foresight
Occupation: Commander of special forces razors edge division
First character design drawn 6 years ago
Back when she was supposed to be a high schooler, this quickly changed as her comrades character designs evolved and left her feeling out of place to me. So I had to rethink every aspect about her look.
This is the result of the redesign
As you can see I ditched the casual clothes and ran with a more suitable superhero outfit. However I may be doing several backstory issues which may include a cameo of that first look.
Name: Ry Tanaka
Age:unknown
DOB: unknown
Hair:None
Skin: Reptilian
Eyes: Flame yellow
Height: 6' 9"
Powers: Healing factor, radioactive breath and hand blasts, super strength, radiation absorption, super agility and speed
Occupation: High security prisoner of G.A.T.E. meta research facility
Ry tanaka was a character that I wanted to have the power comparable to a force of nature, something untapped and wildly unpredictable. What I came up with is best described as the humanoid version of Godzilla. Having nearly identical powers as the king of all monsters, I decided to run along with this amazingly ironic and slightly obvious choice of having Ry be Japanese. How did I come up with the name Ry Tanaka? To be honest, I closed my eyes and and randomly pointed at the screen of my Nintendo DS during the credits for: Animal Crossings: wild world. What ever Japanese name came first was his first name, and second was his last. Pretty sad huh? Over the years Ry has been in design limbo
Here Ry sits at the bottom of a group pic with Sasha (left side), Ray*(top), and MP3*(right). *Ray and MP3 will be introduced in Bios soon to come*
As you can see Ry's "costume" is just a pair of basket ball shorts and a tank top. And his face is kinda vague. This is because I was in the midst of cracking down on everyone's look, as you can see Sasha is still chillin' with her sweater.
Here Ry's face was worked on but I had one major issue with it.. It wasn't human enough
The resemblance to Godzilla was too much and I realized 3 major points.
1. Ry's face lacked emotion, more animalistic than believable it would've limited my ability to create empathy for the character, the audience would have a hard time connecting to such a face.
2. It copied Godzilla too well, I felt like I was using him as a crutch and I needed to get off the safe zone and into more creative territory and tackle a new design.
3. No one wants a superhero with a Godzilla snout.
So I tried to imagine a new design, now to clarify I came up with this lizard-like head design Waaaaaaay before the makers of "the amazing spider-man" movie came up with their lizard design. How I came up with it is I was in an ironman drawing phase and wonderded if aspects of Ironman's face could be applied to Ry. And hence this came to fruition:
Here we see I changed Ry's tail design to make it more of an offensive weapon by broadening the end of the tail like the head of a battle axe, for maximum brute force trauma
Then though this extremely rough iPhone drawing his suit came to light
Here we see I gave him a black and yellow look and for this limited shot it looked fantastic
Here's a much better iPhone drawing of him and you can see that I gave his spikes that magenta like purple color
So far Ry has been one of the most drawn out of all my characters considering how fun it is to draw him. Here is more drawings I gathered
Name: MP3
Age: unknown
DOB: unknown
Hair: Light brown
Ethnicity: white
Eyes: Blue
Height: 5'8"
Powers: manipulation of sound wave energy, hyper sonic blasts, construction of crystalline energy structures composed of sound, and flight.
Occupation: lead scout of a rebel organization.
MP3 started out as just a name. My little cousin, who was in elementary school at the time wanted to make a comicbook with me and created a character with the name MP3. This name had nothing to do with powers, or anything really, except for the fact that he just got his first MP3 player. So instead of arguing over his characters name we decided to make the best of it and see he hat we could make out of it.
Here was his initial look.
Now the visor was something that we felt was good enough to stick around but we noticed that the colors, just weren't working. He looked like Red Ranger and Blue Ranger fused together which was no bueno. Because the way we had it alternating became a major problem later on. Currently I don't have any examples of the color issues but they will be posted soon, once I get home and rummage through my archives (posting while at work :b )
Then one day after discussing Spider-man's alternate black suit we decided to goof around and give some of our characters black suits. MP3's black look was so brilliant however, that we decided to kick out the Power Ranger and give MP3 a look to be proud of.
This led to eventually adapting the suit to his abilities. Some variants include flexible hexagonal armor in between major pieces of hardware like his helmet, shoulder speaker armor (explained further down the paragraph), and other pieces of armor plating.
Since his powers are sound based we decided to implement his suit with a built in media player (an MP3 device :D) that sent out music through outward facing speakers on his hands. This led to several ideas stemming from the music aspect.
Have you ever listened to a song and told yourself, " this would be great background music for an epic fight scene in a movie". Well we decided to run with that thought, making it that when MP3 fights, he's fighting with the music. Giving his abilities fun little quirks like, what the song is doing, will directly effect what kind of attack MP3 puts out.
So with genres like techno and dubstep you can expect frenzied energy attacks affecting a wide attack radius, with output increasing as the music surges.
Here's a drawing in progress that will illustrate that very thought
Now unlike some of the other characters, MP3 will start out gaining his abilities at a considerably younger age, so when working on his backstory I designed an outfit that looks very very basic, as if the kid just went through a goodwill to get his suit together. Later on he'll meet Throttle, who wields exceptional techno-talent and she will build his current black suit.
Here is the origin look I came up with for MP3
As you can see I left the red and blue look in there as sort of a homage to the first drawing done of the character.
More info on the character Throttle in the next Bio.
Name: Throttle (real name unknown)
Age: unknown
DOB: unknown
Hair: black
Ethnicity: Chinese
Eyes: brown
Height: 5'5"
Powers: super speed, and an uncanny expertise of gadgetry and mechanics
Occupation: leader of small rebellion
Throttle was an interesting idea. She was initially inspired by the concept of golfball aerodynamics. I figured if golfball divots make a car more aerodynamic, than why not have a suit made for a super speed powered individual with the same concept.
This was later scrapped after trying to fit all the little divots with my pen on the character's concept drawing.
However her first sketch lacked, well, a lot of the human factor.
So I went back to the drawing board.
I I got to thinking, how do you make a helmet more human? You could make it have a clear visor, but that felt like cheating. So I went a week away from the pencil and pad and looked for inspiration. It wasn't after watching wall-e did I get my inspiration
Eve's head in Wall-e, even though completely simplistically shaped conveyed extremely well her emotional responses just through her LED eyes.
So I decided to pick up on that and apply it to throttles new helmet design
Then after getting a head design set came the task of deciding what to do with her costume. I wanted her to have a sort of armor, because on of the things I never understood about the Flash or Quicksilver (super speed powered super heroes) is that they had no super strength or invulnerability. So wouldn't anything hitting them when they're moving at near to light speed take an arm, or leg, or head off? I mean the inertia would be insane, maybe you wouldn't get hurt to such an extreme, but without any way to test it, why not play it safe? Hence why I decided to give her an armored suit similar to Ironman's but without the weapons.
But along the creative process train came an idea of having the armor only on when in intense battle. So I attempted to design an undersuit, kinda like samus' zero suit.. But I decided to scratch the idea entirely after several attempts.
Here are some of the attempts:
Upper left corner:
I just felt that having optional armor wasn't working here, and I decided to just leave the one armored costume.
Here was the first attempt at creating Throttle's armor, drawn in the middle of economics class (most pointless class ever (>_<)# )
Now I didn't keep everything you see in this first sketch in future renderings but notice the back apparatus that looks winglike almost. That was an interesting idea I had. Those "wings" fold down to her sides, encasing her arms so as to create a more aerodynamic surface.(examples of this coming soon)
Why I chose to add it in I have no idea, maybe I subconsciously was inspired by the female Autobot Arcee.
I still haven't nailed down Throttle's look. Her helmet is about the only sure fire thing. But I'll keep tweaking around till I get the perfect look. Here are a few of the most recent sketches of Throttle.
Some of these drawings are incomplete, but hopefully I will finish them soon.
Are you going to put them into spoilers and put them into the OP? It'll be cleaner be easier to browse through.
Yeah I wanna clean it up here soon. I've just been a little busy and I usually do these on my 10 min break at work on my iPhone so I tend to do what's quickest
I am liking the Throttle character, but if she is the master of gadgets and such, I feel like she should have a little bit more tech on her, instead of just suit and wings. Great idea with the helmet, though.
Keep up the good work.

Aww thanks
I'm hoping to have the first issue of Sasha's backstory out by mid April but we'll see how that goes.

I'm experimenting with a more exaggerated style of drawing. Often seen in many different comics.
