When I was young, I was watching Batman and Superman the animated series, Gargoyles, Rocko's modern life, Samurai Jack, Spiderman, pinky and the brain, and X-men. These were all technically kids shows, but they didn't pander to the audience. They wrote incredible stories that were entertaining for everyone and succeeded. I don't know when it was decided that kids shows HAD to be goofy and toothless, but it needs to end.
Is the idea that kids are too stupid to appreciate anything more sophisticated than bright colors, loud noises, and goofy dialogue? This practice is practically a self-fulfilling prophecy; we keep dumbing down their entertainment, and when that's what they become acclimated to we point and scream "a ha, Proof!" It probably isn't that dramatic, and I doubt pointing is involved but you get what I'm saying.
Despite the ridiculous stereotype, kids aren't stupid, and we need to stop treating them as such, starting with their television. Mainly because I want to watch it too, but also for the kids and stuff.
It mainly started with Spongebob. Any Spongebob episode written before the movie in 2004 still makes me laugh today. But the new seasons are just sad.
Sadly, the only kids shows I can think of that treat the audience with any intelligence that they still make new ones of are Avatar, Adventure Time and My Little Pony.
Really, I can't help but agree. Most show have been dumbed down severely, so if it doesn't have goofy dialogue, over-abuse of slapstick humor, and so much other bullcrap we don't need, kids want it.
It's the same thing with the music industry, you could compare KoRn to Pantera, and see that more mainstream groups and bands have a lot less dark charisma, and are a lot less lyrically structured so they can rack in more and more money.
That's all it's about these days, money, and no one seems to realize that except for the few amount of us that actually appreciate a good show.
I'm finding it hard not to go on a music rant at your right now... I won't because my many many words will fall on deaf ears but know now that you are so incredibly wrong in every way possible.
Saying more mainstream bands being less lyrically structured, yeah, that might've been a bit overboard.
But tell me, are you ever going to hear really good songs like War is the Answer, The Great Southern Trendkill, or Solitaire Unraveling on the radio?
Didn't think so. More people listen to bands that don't have so dark of lyrics and vocals, that's why many metal bands have made their songs less aggressive to suit everyone's needs. Unfortunately, it can sometimes ruin the band.
Luckily, some of those guys like Disturbed and Metallica hold strong. But, nonetheless, I can understand what you're saying.
This is exactly why I get most of my entertainment from Creepypasta. The only shows I really watch on TV anymore are My Little Pony and old shows like Perry Mason or Gomer Pyle.
Producers getting greedier, that's pretty much it.
- They don't want to pay good writers.
- They don't want good, complex stories so they can get more views.
Surely there are still great shows out there, but not nearly as much as the stupid ones.

Personally, Transformers Prime and Green Lantern are getting up there. Especially since G.L is a genuine Saturday-Morning action Cartoon, just like Generation One and G.I Joe.

First of all, your profile pic scared the living **** out of me. I believe I am emotionally scarred. I won't be sleeping tonight, thanks.
Secondly, back on topic, this is completely right and I'm glad I'm not the only one who realizes it. Most TV Shows today are just plain stupid. There's no content. There's no moral. There's nothing to it. It's very cliche and doesn't fit into "real life". In fact, I find it teaches kids how to be a bigger bully and more of a *****. There's nothing helpful in today's TV.

First of all - I'm planning on changing my avatar soon, so don't worry about your psyche for to much longer.
Second, I once posted an argument an a brony-hate thread which is very relevant to this topic.
Most TV shows today make the viewer feel like an idiot. For an example, imagine there's a crowd around some evil guy. Suddenly, the evil guy grows fifty feet tall. That's when some guy from the crowd yells in panic "OH MY GOSH! HE JUST GREW FIFTY FEET TALL!"
My Little Pony doesn't make you feel that way at all. It makes you feel somewhat SMART.
Same thing with shows from around the 60's. They don't explain every obvious little thing.
There have always been stupid slapstick shows, and there have always been shows with more subtle humor. Just look at Tom and Jerry, one of the oldest, most popular cartoons ever made. Its humor isn't exactly subtle.
Having nothing better to do, I watched an episode of a modern Cartoon Network show yesterday (Almost Naked Animals [*Shudder*]).
It seems that the protagonist is portrayed in a way that the show is actively making him look like a pathetic loser who is not only stupid, but also incredibly annoying to everyone around him and a complete failure.
These are the characters children are supposed to identify with.
"Against all the evil that Hell can conjure, all the wickedness that mankind can produce; We will send unto them... only you."
Colored text indicates in-character statements/actions. Because Forum Games has basically just been a big open RP for a long time now and it's the only place I ever post anymore, when I post at all.
