I don't think this is that bad, because I don't view it as the protagonist being the "chosen one", but rather the chosen one being the protagonist.
At least, I think that makes sense.
Some movies have it set up where the protagonist is "the chosen one" just because. Even when s/he has no special abilities or unique powers. "The gods" just rolled some dice and picked Lucky McChooseMe because reasons.

But plot twist: Said main character does end up receiving some magical powers to defeat the bad guy with the power of motivation and determination!

Exactly, and the plot is centered around Lucky McChooseMe because of that. It's not that the plot was centered around Lucky, and then all of the sudden he/she becomes chosen, but rather the plot is centered around him/her because they were chosen.
It'd be kinda weird to have a movie where the protagonist just watches the chosen one do cool stuff instead of actually being said chosen one.

Well I read a book once called 'Trickster's Choice' that has a concept that is very similar to this and they executed it very well to make an interesting story centred around very enjoyable characters. So it's possible if you do it correctly.
When a channel butchers a movie by censoring the christ out of it. Seriously, just don't show the movie at all if you're going to water everything down.

See, that's one of the ways I judge how good a movie is. If it's edited for TV and is still very entertaining, then that's an indication of good writing and witty dialogue. If being edited for TV makes it unfunny or uninteresting, then the movie was probably relying too heavily on shock value and wasn't worth watching to begin with.

It depends on what the channel allows. There are some very clever jokes or one-liners that do rely on a bit of profanity, and the entire purpose of the joke is ruined if you remove a piece of it. It's like going "Knock knock, aren't you glad I didn't say banana?!" If it don't work, don't broadcast it.

That was my problem trying to watch Suicide Squad in a country where profanity and censorship is taking very seriously. Major parts of the plot were taken out, and I found it very confusing. Guess I'll either have to watch it online or hope that if it comes on TV, they don't censor out the important things.
As a matter of fact, I also had another problem with watching movies in the cinema as well. When I went to watch the Mockingjay part II, every scene skipped was only kissing scenes, and then spoiler (In italics in case you haven't seen it): they don't censor out a woman being brutally shot through the chest with an arrow.

"Logic"
I'd rather see a woman get shot with an arrow than seeing a public display of affection
The protagonist has a crush on some girl and sometime during the climax they make them kiss.
And the crush magically rewrites the logic of the life and forces the two to be together no matter how outlandish the events in between are. Then again, I'm sure many love stories in real life are like that.

When a "nerdy" character takes off his/her glasses (usually her) and then appears to have the most beautiful face near the end.
It just... feels wrong. And it seems to look down upon nerds.
Well, it's usually takes off her glasses, let's down/restyles her hair, adds more/different make-up, wears a less frumpy outfit, and walks with more confidence, but the movies tend to portray it as simply taking off her glasses. By the time you've done all that work, the glasses aren't really an issue, so long as you buy a decent pair rather than the most ludicrously oversized things in the store.

Movies that preach about the environment. Crap like that can bring a movie from a 10 to a 3 for me. Even worse when the movie tries to "make you feel bad" for it. As if the writers of the movie are Earth saving angels and all the viewers are all people who wear shirts that have a picture of someone stabbing the Earth with a knife. Yup, that's us.

Usually, if they do that it is already a musical so just avoid them. I find it extremely hard to imagine the main character of any non-musical movie singing about their dreams.
Being honest, the only musical i liked was high school musical and it was quite some time ago.

Doesn't matter what the press says. Doesn't matter what the politicians or the mobs say. Doesn't matter if the whole country decides that something wrong is something right. This nation was founded on one principle above all else: the requirement that we stand up for what we believe, no matter the odds or the consequences. When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world — "No, you move

It has the opportunity to be good so long as they're not shoving it down our throats. For example, Avatar was a good story, with a focus about 'saving the planet'. I'd name a few more, but Avatar is the best example I have of it.
When movies about 'Highschool/College Life' always and I mean ALWAYS have that blonde, white girl with a valley accent as the main antagonist and whose goal is to destroy the protagonist's life.
