I am looking for a decent laptop that will run modern games at low - medium settings.
Not looking to max any game out. Just something that will be able to run it .. well.
I am in New Zealand and can't find any good laptops.
It has to be a laptop, because I travel around to different towns and places frequently. And on planes. Not that I would be playing Call of Duty on a plane...
Games Im looking to run.
Call of duty.
Battlefield 3
Minecraft

Thanks.
We are basically in the same place here, it is hard to find a laptop! I suggest looking here: www.xoticpc.com they have great laptops for cheap prices and have great support.
Yeah, things may change in time though.
Wait till you have around ~$500-$1000 then come back around then.
Hopefully by then there are better options... >.<''

Your friendly neighborhood dragon. Don't be scared, I won't bite!
I am here for you, Don't be afraid to send me a message.
Taking things into consideration, I won't be moving to New Zealand anytime soon.
You'll probably want to save around $1200, as I was having trouble finding any APU based systems. You'll most likely have to get one with a dedicated GPU, and you'll pay a premium. I didn't exactly know where all I was looking though, and you may have better luck.

Thanks for your help anyways.
To help me for my future laptop hunting, what should I look for in a decent laptop? spec wise.

I was looking to find a price, then save up.
Things change rather quickly in the technology area. I personally don't recommend spending more than $600 on a laptop, which would be fine for you.

This computer is horrible and is about $600 http://www.noelleeming.co.nz/shop/computers/notebook-computers/pc-notebook-computers/toshiba-c850d-00x-15-6-notebook/prod119199.html
EDIT: The best I could find was a SB i5 + 635/640 from Asus, I think was around $1500

Cannot really say, because hardware is never the same as it always changes.
APUs are nice at the moment for budget ranges. Such as AMDs A6, A8, and A10 CPUs which have GPUs as well.
4 to 8GB "ideal" is amount of ram to look for. But ram is cheap, 1600Mhz is ideally at moment the best you can get for buck.
HDD is HDD, 320GB+, try to avoid SSDs really in laptops since want to just get a reliable one yourself if wish to go SSD.
Monitor is hard to say, they greatly vary to much.
Keyboard with numerical pad is nice. "Full keyboard tbh".
Asus, MSI, Lenovo, sometimes Samsung are nice laptop brands. Don't know where all Sager goes about or other outside USA brands really.
Avoid HP, Dell, Acer, Alienware, random no names not mentioned above.
Again however, things are ALWAYS changing, nothing stays constant in the computer world.
I appreciate it.
