I have a HP Pavilion p6624y (specs can be seen on the HP site). My FPS are awful on Minecraft running at 8-9FPS most of the time. If I am lucky they run in the 20s for a little bit. Chunk loading is so slow. It's just a pain. I want to know what I need to upgrade on my computer to get more FPS. I would love 100 FPS or more. My computer is older being 4yrs so not the best but I have to work with what I have. Though I probably need it, I do not want to get a new motherboard as it is too much a pain to install. So, I have to work with what I have which unfortunately is not much. I know Minecraft runs mainly of the CPU. Do you think I need a new CPU? Graphics card? Etc.? As my motherboard only runs AM3 sockets only I don't have many really nice ones to choose from. First, which should I get no matter the budget? (I want to see what the cost off the best I can get for my computer). Second, what is the best I can get in the $250-$300 budget? Just for one upgrade then I can upgrade the rest slowly as needed as I save up some money. If I need a CPU I was looking at the AMD Phenom II X4 975 as it seems to be nice and compatible with my computer. Would I need a new PSU? Overall what do I need to upgrade to get more FPS? Thanks.
Would the EVGA GeForce GTX 970 graphics card work with my computer and CPU that I have now? With a new PSU of course? Is the Corsair Builder Series CX 600 Watt CX600 a good PSU to get and cover what I need (750W)? I found the CPU on amazon for like $350 and the PSU for like $70 all together a bit over my budget (way over if I need the $100 CPU as well). I maybe able to get $100 from Christmas to put toward this :P. I have been hinting that I want an upgrade for my computer for Christmas so my parents may help me out...we will see if not,...Santa! :P. If I need a new CPU now before I get the graphics card then I think I will just wait a bit and save up to get the better unless you people think that something like the Geforce GTX 750ti would work just as good. It is more in my price range but not sure if it will work with my computer or give me what I want. What do you think? Thanks.
That's complete bollocks, coming from someone who can pretty much max the game out on my 5770. I'm CPU bound anyway.
You don't need a high end card to max Minecraft at all, even something like a R9 270 (~$140) is already overkill for your needs. Same for the power supply, 500W is far more than enough, just make sure it's a decent unit, the CX 500 would do.
Thanks for the help I know very little about computers and what is compatible with what. I was going to get the CPU first anyway as my budget cannot get everything right now. So, I will test that out and see how it goes using the graphics card I have now. Glad to hear I only need the 500W PSU, it will save me $20 :). Thx.
I know I just didn't want to accept it :P. I am looking at computers right now to see if I can find a reasonably priced one with good specs. I really did not want to do this as transferring all my data to a new computer is such a pain......I may wait till after Christmas when stores are trying to get rid of their inventory or people selling their computers cause they got new ones. Any suggestions on a new computer with good specs. at a decent amount?
Oh no! I know I will need more than $300 to buy a good computer. I will just have to sell some stuff. If I sell my horse saddle I will have at least $800. I love the saddle and don't want to sell it but I need a new computer more. What could I get within an $800-$900 price range. Preferably lower would be nicer :P. I don't care if new or used right now. New is always better but got to work with what I have. I do want an HP with at least a 1TB hard drive. Windows 7 home premium is preferred but I can go either or. I play all a lot of games like Assassins Creed, Minecraft, etc. on this computer, along with video editing programs, and put a lot of data and videos I have taken on it so 1TB at least is a must.

But I would reccomend buying a new computer altogether since the CPU is kinda old.
