Hey, I have a question. Through this whole week, I have been downloading texture packs, mods, and skins for my MineCraft game, and after a surprising Mcafee scan, my computer had a virus. The name of it was PDF.q.gen!stream. I quickly found Mcafee's report. http://www.mcafee.com/threat-intelligence/malware/default.aspx?id=158449 I ran another scan last night, and it found it again after it said it had already been fixed (Quarantined). What I downloaded were, MCSkin Creator (something along those lines, program) MCPatcher (program), Too Many Items (Mod), JohnSmith (Texture Pack), Misa301 (Texture Pack), NES Zelda V14 (Texture Pack), PokeCraft V2.5 (Texture Pack), and some skins off Skindex. Considering these were the only things I downloaded this week, I immediately thought it must be one of these. Could one of these possibly contain a virus, or could I have somehow got it somewhere else? Would appreciate some help from someone really tech savvy here, so I can know what to delete.
ANY program (.exe) can contain malicious code.
Texture packs (unless you install them with an installer-program), are harmless. Especially the ones you named there.
Mods very well could be dangerous, if they are from an unreliable source, or are shady. These are just things you have to use common sense with, and personal decision.
May I also suggest an amazing tool that I use almost every day? http://www.virustotal.com/index.html
Scan websites, links, and programs before downloading/using them to be safe.
Well, none of them seemed too bad. The majority of them came from ad.fly links or from MediaFire.
Edit: Thanks, I will try using that program. Also, what's PR0N?
well the virus was in a .pdf file according to the report. it could have been a readme file that was a pdf or even a pdf you opened online. i know chrome will automatically "downlaod" it and open it.

Porn.
Scan with MalwareBytes, if nothing comes up it was a false alarm, if something does you have a virus.
Never download any .exe unless you put it high on your "trust" list. Minecraft mod or not, video game mods and addons of all types are prime targets for these things.
WHERE were the adfly or mediafire links though? Any kind of link to a download site like that is immediately suspicious, even if it is just a mod or texturepack.
Mods and texturepacks almost NEVER come with exes either so if they do don't use them.

I don't watch porn, never will. Nikkonolas, I got all those links from here actually. Now that I think about it, I also downloaded an archiving software called 7Zip, which is supposed to be the same as WinRar, I used it and it works fine.

7zip is a good program.
It would really help if you specified WHERE you downloaded these from so we can either scan them for you, or so other people know what to avoid.
Okay I think I found the problem. Shady website. Downloaded SkinEdit from this topic: where I downloaded SkinEdit And the link in the topic led to a place called SolidFiles.com. Is that site legit?
