Budget: $620.40, Subtract that of which ive already taken, which is $559.88, so the real budget is $60.12 SystemUsage:Its a server Are you including monitor, peripherals, OS etc in your budget?: I will be using Linux, and I have moniters and lotsaspare keyboards and mouses on hand. PreferredWebsites/Storesfor parts: Preferred Newegg, as to keep the shopping cart simple Overclocking, yes orno?:Please no. SLI /Crossfire, yes orno?: No idea what this means, in my 3 years of studying computer science, i've never come across this and had to know it, so if someone were to explain this to me, it'd be fantastic, and learning is always fun. MonitorResolution(if upgrading, post the resolution of the monitor resolution you want): Not Relevant. Other: Please note, I will be attempting to host a minecraft server, and hopefully a Gmod server on it at the same time, tips would be nice. Also sorta-relevant information, my upload speed is 30 MB/s DL, UPL is 15 MB/s, and lastly, shameless self advertising that I make optional for you to read :
PM me for details about the MC Server, it will be RP based. And im not revealing more unless asked.
Why are you upgrading?:Because having a server is a fantastic investment.
Now, the question im having, is what kind of power supply do I need, and dont get me wrong, I've built computers before, but I cant find the Seoul Processor ANYWHERE on any of my usual PSU Calculators. It might be that I didnt look hard enough, or may have skipped over it, but i've turned to you guys for help(Thanks in advanced!) In addition to that, I'd also like to hear peoples opinions on the server as it stands, and give recommendations. The entire build right now is subject to change, but I would like to get it all wrapped up quick before the sale on the case goes away(that is, if I decide to keep that case)
Other than that, thanks for showing interest!
why, the sweet hell, are you making a server? more so in that high of a budget, you could rent a server for 100 months at $60 a month for that rate, or $120 a month for 5 years, you will never be able to get that much use out of a server you own, the monthly plan for buisness class line alone would be almost $300+ if you want a pretty good connection for something that powerful, because you are going to be paying a load for high upload speeds
Renting a server is 9/10 cheaper and more reliable then building one. You will get faster internet, don't have to deal with hardware failure / DDOS attacks. Internet providers will most likely make you upgrade to a business line if you run a server if they find out from enough traffic and your power bills will be on the rise.

Reading carefully, I believe he meant his budget is $620.40.
To start, to host a legitimate MC server isn't hard. I had 4 people on a server on my POS Dell laptop from 2 years ago. So...
The thing that's really going to be expensive is your internet, and electricity will definitely noticeably go up. You'll need good upload speed (think at least 2Mbps for each player). You'll likely want a static IP address as well.
Taking into account the sheer costs of such, it's better to rent a server.

In accordance with this, I was considering buying a business class internet rather than just use my home one, but i'd have to scrap a PSU from one of my friends old projects, and that still leaves me with trying to find a HDD. To be honest, when I first started the idea out, I had already considered hiring a company or such to protect me from DDoS attacks and to pay for the internet myself, sadly that all didnt really make it into the final cut, as I hoped, that I'd first be able to start out very small, and try not to attract much attention, thereby avoiding the DDoS'es and my ISP beating me with the internet cable(Thats an exaggeration, they'll use a whip).

Well the server wont just be for Minecraft, i'll also use it for hosting a variety of games and other utilitarian purposes, such as hosting a website and projects and such.
How many players and how often will the server be online?
Unpredictable at the moment. And hopefully constant, and if it cant be hosted side-by-side with games, then it will be running on a timed schedule which is TBD

Again, everything is up to change, and im more than willing to take suggestions on what to do. Personally, I view this as a an investment worth of my thought and if you think not, I welcome you to argue you point of view. All advice I can get is helpful.

I don't think you realize, it is 300$ a MONTH. You don't just pay for it once.

Yes, I do realize that, im hoping to be able to survive off of my home internet long enough to build up enough donation funds to try and get it paid for.

$300+ a month is a lot of money for a small server. The amount of traffic it would take to raise that much would not be able to be run on your current plan. Not to mention you would need to have extra money to pay for the increase in your power bill as well as for parts that fail over time. Sorry to say but it's fairly likely it won't happen, but I wish you the best of luck with your server anyways.

Just rent a server. This isn't going to happen unless you have a plugin developer, unique ideas, and money to advertise your server.
Edit: And you'll have to pay an additional hundred or so bucks monthly for DDoS protection.

You have to understand, you will never ever pay it off and you will never ever be stable with it, simply due to the fact that the initial costs, electricity, and internet are all going to cost you more than you will be able to put back into it, unless you have a REALLY good job on the side.
Also note most ISPs won't let you run a server of any kind off a home connection, and will force you to upgrade to a more expensive business plan.

I think the old ones were custom but the new ones are based on the FX series, yah.

And not have to worry about electricity bills. And have DDoS protection. And have easier set up. And have a faster server.
Really, no reason not to just rent one.
Not renting one is okay if it's like... a 2 person server. But beyond that? Too much.
Hosting a server on a home PC for 5 people is as much as you should do. Any more and you will probably lag hard, and your ISP might notice.
