So I was looking at stuff on newegg and I stumbled on these. FX-9 series processors. I guess they announced it at E3, maybe I should watch that. Have you guys seen these? They are crazy. There is the [email protected] base, and the [email protected] base. The slower one is a reasonable $350, and the faster one is a crazy $900. And the TDP, you ask? No less that 220W! That's just ridicules. Currently they are only available to system builders, but you can buy barbones kits on newegg with em.
So what do you think about these FX-9xxx CPU's? Think anyone in their right mind would get one of these? And overclocking. They already use 220W, think they can choke down any more power? And dissipating that heat...maybe it'll open up a new market of fx-9 optimized liquid coolers. And how many mobo vrm's can handle that kind of power.
If I had the cash, I'd be tempted to put one in chilled mineral oil and try to squeeze as much out of the silicon as possible

i5 4670k @ 4.9GHz - Stock Heatsink - The rest is melted silicon but I think I have a graphics card in there somewhere It surprises me how many people on this forum can't read benchmarks.

If i had the cash, i would buy an 8350 and make a custom loop and overclock it myself to 4.7- 5 ghz and save money. If the first chip doens't overclock so well, you could easily sell the first one and keep trying new chips till you get a good one. And you would still stay under the price of a 9590 + mobo.
Also, op $ 350 is NOT a reasonable price for a cpu like a 9370.
You can easily build a system around an 8320 and a 7970 for the price of a single 9590. Fudge the price a little and you could throw an NZXT Kraken on the 8320 and OC it to 4.7Ghz with ease, 5Ghz if you get a good chip.
I really don't get what AMD was thinking. Sure, its the first chip to get 5Ghz stock, although if they priced it at $250, or even $300 it would have been alot easier to sell, especially with alot of Intel fan boys claiming that AMD chips are horrid.

Proud member of the MCF AWA war of '13! if someone suggests Alienware or Cyberpower, wait for a custom-built list from someone who knows their stuff. Meh Rig
I personally think that AMD is just doing this to draw some attention to it's more reasonably priced FX chips and maybe stave off intel for a few seconds.
