So recently, my friend got a new computer and while at his house (since he didn't know much about the computer), I was asking him about this program called ZoneAlarm. Basically the program from what I've gathered has no actual benefits, it's been known to use "scare tactics" to make people download it, which is incredibly suspicious.
Anyways, I noticed it in the corner and that no matter how many times my friend clicked "deny" on some sort of issue, it never went away, claiming to have issues with Explorer.exe, ATI Technologies, etc.
So after unsuccessfully uninstalling it from the programs & features --> uninstall, I did a quick google search and revealed that most of the ways to solve the problem were with Window's XP, and since we're on Windows 7... it's quite odd.
Also, when we restart the computer we have to press f9 in order to bring up the harddrive to boot the computer from; it won't boot automatically.
He said it all began happening the night before when he got it setup with a new printer, and plugged in his external HDD. The HDD had apparently been backed up from his laptop, so I'm not sure if it came from that.
Anyways, you'll probably need these specs. He got the PC from a friend of his who had reformatted the hard drive (his had been a 1TB, but it had crashed, so he reformatted the 250gb that the computer is using). It's a gaming PC a couple generations old that his friend had built.
AMD Phenom II X4 B45
4.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 666MHz
BIOSTAR Group A880G+ (CPU 1)
512MB ATI ASUS EAH5450 Series (ASUStek Computer Inc)
233GB Seagate ST3250824AS ATA Device (SATA)
I'm just concerned that this could be a potential virus or something, and since he's not sure how he got it I'm a little worried, any information that could help would be great. He had asked the friend he got the PC from and he'd said that he might have to reformat the hard drive, it shouldn't matter too much since he just got it setup, but it's a bit of a hassle to get it to him so any information would be great.
Thanks in advance.
Well after trying that several times F8 brings up no such menu; only the one saying we must select the boot drive by rebooting and spamming F9 to get to the screen to select the HDD (the only HDD)
Well whatever. Somehow I was able to uninstall the program (don't ask me, I just messed around restarting a bunch and it worked).
Anyways, I still have the problem when booting, it won't boot automatically, so you have to get to the drive menu to select a drive before it will boot. There's only one HDD so I'm not sure what the problem is.
(PS his friend let him borrow his Logitech G15 keyboard and osajmndklabnsjdbashdjbalsd I've never typed on something more awesome in my life)too bad the internet is slow (it took 13 hours to download league of legends) or this would be just amazing
